We are getting ready to demo our very ugly bathroom and we have a 1960's cast iron tub in blue and would like to keep the tub since it is sturdy and a nice shape. Has anyone had a tub professionally refinished?

My parents did! Their bathroom had the original cast iron claw foot tub in it when they bought their house. The enamel was chipped. It was a long time ago they had it refinished... I think maybe 20 years?? I can't remember. Anyway, it's held up well! Still my favourite place to take a bath.

my parents did as well. it cost about $500, and was done about 5 years ago, and it is beautiful. it was in pretty bad shape before with heavy staining from their well water, and etched enamel from using the wrong cleaning products.

My dad did 20-25 years ago. When it was cleaned using the proper supplies, it looked great. The finish has held up well aside from being dull after his ex-girlfriend used toilet bowl cleaner to clean it. Even then it has never peeled or chipped.

I am so glad to hear of some success. I love our tub, it is in really good shape, we just want it white

Just recently discovered that the bathtub in my daughters house had been refinished, when the new finish started peeling off. She has lived in the house for about four years so it lasted that long. If it was warrantied, the seller did not pass on that information or even mention it had just been refinished.

ALL.THE.TIME. I manage apartments and we do it very frequently.

We did our tub and both showers, but they were fiberglass. Even with special cleaning products that didn't work very well, the finish started separating after a few years. But, like I said, that was on fiberglass. I've heard that refinishing works really well with cast iron.

About 12 years ago in my then spare bathroom. I've since had two kids and they bathed every other day over an 8 year period. It's held up very well.
