SORRY... I was getting my cases confused. McMichael was NOT a cop. Does not make Arbery's case less awful.
Guaranteed, at least some of his coworkers had heard him say things like this before Arbery was killed, yet he was still on the force.
He either wasn't reported for overt racism, or was reported but allowed to keep his job.
It's great that there are many individual good cops out there, but they need help their departments purge every last officer like Travis McMichael AND adopt safer policing policies (https://8cantwait.org is a great set of policies that are proven to decrease police violence).
There is no retraining for police officers like this. Go have another career; you are a menace to society in this one.

Ahmaud Arbery was hit with a truck before he died, and his killer allegedly used a racial slur, investigator testifies "William Bryan told investigators he heard Travis McMichael use a racial epithet after fatally shooting Ahmaud Arbery in Glynn County, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent testified Thursday during preliminary hearings. Bryan told police McMichael said "f***ing n***er" after three blasts from McMichael's shotgun left Arbery dead in February the streets of the Satilla Shores neighborhood, Assistant Special Agent in Charge Richard Dial said. Body camera footage also showed a Confederate flag sticker on the toolbox of McMichael's truck, Dial said. On cross-examination, Dial testified that Bryan mentioned the slur in a May 13 GBI interview, and to Dial's knowledge, Bryan had not previously made the allegation, including during a May 11 interview" www.cnn.com/2020/06/04/us/mcmichaels-hearing-ahmaud-arbery/index.html

His father is a former police officer.
I will continue to pray for peace in the heart of Ahmaud’s mother. Learning those details won’t be easy.

It was the police and county prosecutors who declined (or refused at the begging of his family) to press charges. It wasn’t until the video came out and the GBI took over that there were even arrests. So while he did not die at the hands of the police, the police refused/declined to arrest the murderers—they seemingly were quite all right to allow no investigation beyond the word of 2 white men who killed a black man.

The case just gets more and more disgusting by the day.
If they can label it a hate crime won’t the sentences be stronger?

If they can label it a hate crime won’t the sentences be stronger? That is my understanding. The daughter/sister of the McMichaels is also getting attention for posting photos of Arbery's body on Snap Chat (now delted). I hope she is charged, too.

What a horrible way to die. The last thing you hear are those words.

It’s upsetting that there have been enough of them, that you very reasonably could be confused and get them mixed up.

Isn't it terrible that there are so many of these cases we can't keep them all straight?

I’m so exhausted and sad. I can’t get the image of him lying there dying while those monsters demean him out of my head. I just want to cry.
