I want to buy a stamp press but would like recommendations. I've done a search and most responses are from 2018. I'm sure there's a lot more that have come on the market so thought you can help. I'm looking for one that's budget friendly so the Misti one is out of the question. I don't need all the bells and whistles. Are there any that you can recommend? Thanks.

If you're in the US your options may be limited. I personally like the Stampin Up Stamparatus but it's $50. If you can find it, the Tim Holtz stamp platform is good too. I'm not sure how much it costs now. The WRMK one was a big fail for me. I ended up returning it. It's not hinged and the one I had would shift just a little bit. I know there are a couple of other choices now but I don't remember what they're called. Hopefully someone will chime in with information about them.

I too was on a budget when looking for a stamp platform-I did end up getting the WRMK one, (precision press advanced) from Tuesday Morning for 14.99. I like it fine, but then I would not consider myself an advanced stamper by any means, so it seemed fine for entry level. If you are more of an advanced user, then maybe the hinged one? I know there are also some make your own tutorials out there on YT, so if you are tools handy, you could maybe make one? This was the video I watched when I saw it at TM and was considering it, I watched this in the aisle, when I had it in my cart, lol. She does "prefer" the misti, but I wouldn't buy that if I could afford it. (Don't like that lady's business model) www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKxF-8kS18c

I made a stamp press out of a CD jewel case - just shaved down the plastic “divots” that hold the dood closed, took out the “guts” and glued in a piece of craft foam and printed-out grid paper. It’s one of the cheapest solutions, although pretty small.

I have 3. The misti was so expensive, so I made my own. I bought the plastic pieces (cut to fit) from TAP Plastics, took them home and glued it all together. I call it Kling-on. Years later I bought a misti knock off at Jo's. One day I was rummaging around in my studio looking for something and found my Letter Press, it works pretty good too. I still like my King-on best.

The all. I think think I will have to run to Tuesday morning to see if they have one. They are closing 2 of the 3 that are around here. One of my friends got hers there.
I'm glad to hear your pros and cons of each. I don't 'need' one but I WANT one!

That’s appalling if it’s the case...I hope I'm mistaken... You're not mistaken - that's why so many of us here would not buy a Misti if it was the only press available. She went after home crafters who made their own; she sued Tonic/Tim Holtz and that's why that one isn't available in the States, there was a really good knockoff from Hampton Arts you used to be able to get at Michael's/Joann's (mine was around $12 with coupon) and she went after them. . . She still has a lawsuit going with Stampin Up over the Stamparatus. WRMK used to have a hinged platform and she sued them as well. I wouldn't have had such a problem with her threatening Hampton Arts; that one was pretty much a direct copy just a tiny bit smaller. The others have so many improvements that they aren't close to the design of hers - but they all work better (you can easily use paper that is bigger than the platform, for one thing; and the hinges don't develop stress cracks). But when she started with the cease and desist letters from her lawyer against home crafters showing the ones they made . . . she created a lot of ill will toward her company. Don was the first one I saw, but he definitely wasn't the only one. And it didn't stop with her asking him to take it down. She threatened him with her lawyer. The thing is, way before she got her "patent", there were blog posts showing how to use the WRMK Letterpress Platform as a hinged stamping platform. So I have no idea how she ever got the patent in the first place. Anyway, I have most of them (I have issues) and at this point, if I were going to buy one, my vote would be for the Stampin Up Stamparatus. I know it's more expensive, but it's well-made and sturdy, you can use paper that's bigger than the press, it comes with bar magnets instead of round and has a storage area for those magnets underneath and it comes with 2 plates so you can have stamps set up for multiple layers if you want to do several of the same card. BUT they're pretty easy to make with a picture frame and some purchased hinges and a little bit of plexiglass if the frame you buy comes with real glass. I had even seen a youtube video where a crafter in Australia built one with a lego baseplate and hinges and a piece of plexiglass. I'll see if I can find it to link it for you. I had heard some of this history, but not all - thank you for explaining this. It’s absolutely disgusting that a private company would be commenting negatively on the personal art gallery of a consumer! Unfortunately, I received the MISTI as a gift, and I’m not thrilled with it. The Bible quote bothers me; the cheap hinges and bowing acrylic bother me; the cost bothers me. I had wanted the Tim Holtz platform, but that was officially gone from US sales. It seems that the MISTI company rectified a few of these issues with their Hero Arts joint model, but I’m loathe to buy one and support My Sweet Petunia in any way. Don, I’m so sorry that happened to you. It isn’t right. Thanks again for the info, cbet.

#artemisiagenx - The Stampin Up Stamparatus is ~almost~ identical to the Tim Holtz platform (it actually has a few improvements). I know it's on the more expensive side, but it's really worth it (and I say that as not-all-that-much-a-fan of Stampin Up).

I have both the Tim Holtz regular and travel size platforms and love them. Amazon UK still has the regular one but I’m not Sure how much shipping would be. I think if my platform ever broke I’d go with the Stamparatus. I know both choices are a little pricy but they are well made.

I see it - it looks great! Excellent idea. And didn’t infringe on the MSP “design” so utterly inappropriate for her to try and intimidate you. Thanks for sharing - you must be pretty handy. Love the Klingon name!

Hi. I was just looking at the Stampi’ Up website and don’t see the Stamparatus for purchase. Does anyone know if you can still buy it? It’s so crazy that the Misti lady is getting every one of these tools shut down. And don I’m so sorry to hear what she did to you. It isn’t right! Your homemade one is very nice! Edited to add that I found it on the site

I was going to buy the one by MSP when it was first available, but the price was a huge deterrent. Then I saw the thread where customers complained about the cracking, and they said her customer service was poor. I wanted a stamp platform so much that it was hard to resist when I saw them at convention, but I’d heard about Tim Holtz coming out with one soon, so I resisted the temptation.
I was glad that I waited, I have both sizes of the Tim Holtz platforms. I love them and use them both. I use them the most, but I think it is because I am used to them. I really like the smaller one.
I also have the Stamparatus, which is wonderful for layered stamps, especially when making multiples of the same card. I didn’t need it, but I decided that I’d better get it while I could before MSP’s lawsuit eliminated the possibility of buying it later. Besides, I wanted to support SU.
Edited to add: If you really want the most budget friendly, then you could do what Don did. His pictures are pretty clear, which is probably why MSP threatened him with legal action. You can get acrylic at Home Depot, and they even have pre-cut sizes. I bet that is how MSP made her prototype.

I’m quoting myself from before because I love my stamp press. Those in Canada—you may get a better deal on this because I believe Ecstasy Crafts is in Canada. The shipping was super fast and the quality is awesome.

I have the WRMK Press & Tim's press. I love them both for different reasons. Tim's press is great for those huge stamping sessions where you have a lot of stamps out. It is good for mixed media and making messes. I can build scene's with Tim's press with accurate precision.
I love the WRMK press for quick stamping. I also love that it can be a standalone acrylic block for when you want to stamp in your journals or other media that you can't put into a press.
I would like a Stamparatus. That one is on my WL.

If you can still find the one made by Hampton Arts, I'd recommend that one. I've seen a few here and there at Michael's, which is where I bought mine when it first came out. I also have the larger one. I like the WRMK one and Tim Holtz's too.

My favourite is my homemade CD case one. It wouldn't be ideal for working on bigger projects but it suits my needs perfectly.

I have an illness.
I have one of the original Misti's. When she was making them in her home. I regretted the purchase as soon as I got it and saw the Bible verse. And then her behavior and attitude just leaves a poor taste in my mouth over the whole thing.
When I heard that her and Tim Holtz had come to an agreement and his were leaving the market, I bought the Travel size one off Amazon in a panic.
And then I bought the Stamparatus from SU.
I like the TH and SU better than the Misti.
