It seems like a lot of companies have monthly or bi-monthly releases... and while I love constant, fresh products, it can be super overwhelming each month. I have often fallen into the "buy it now" trap, especially with stamps, and that's not always a good thing! Lately I've put off buying for a month or two, and I can usually knock off 50% of the stamps off my "have to have" list, just by waiting.
Do you get sucked into the hype each month?

I don't pay much attention to them. I usually only buy when I am looking for something specific and then have to watch my tendency to hit the buy now button when something else catches my attention.
Most of the releases come out of the US so I wait until I see it available in Canada. That helps curve my buying on impulse. And often times by the time I find it here I no longer find it as desirable as when I first saw it so pass on buying.
I am much more likely to buy on impulse if I go to an actual store.

There seems to have been an explosion of stamp companies this year and I don't have the time to follow all of the release hype for 3-5 days with blog hops and give aways for multiple companies. I also have a decent stamp & die collection, so something has to be pretty unique to catch my eye. MFT & PTI have the biggest release prizes and stores with a great depth of product (paper, ink, etc.) so I usually comment on those and have won GC from both. I like that they don't require me to go to every DT members blog to comment. With smaller companies I might occassionally order something, but more often order through a 3rd party store where I can bundle a bunch of things for free shipping. I used to get sucked into the hype, but ended up with too many things that never got used. Now it has to be very special to get me to order on release night, like you craftymom101 I can knock a lot of sets off my wish list just by waiting a month.

I try to look and not buy. I try to satisfy my shopping urge by making a wish list over the course of a few months, then paring it way down when I actually order.

I refuse to do the sneak peeks or the blog hops. I see no point in having to waste my time to see the new releases bit by bit. Once all that hoopla is over, if it is a company I follow or glimpse a sample I like, I will look at their new releases.

Well, the one at Papertrey Ink kind of back-fired for me . . . I decided I wanted the MakeIt Market Tinsel & Tags main kit and trimmings kit. Since the main kit is really pricey I wanted to order them at the same time to avoid the shipping. The Trimming kit came back in stock for the release party, BUT then the main kit is no longer in stock. Can't really use the trimmings kit without the main kit, but I ordered it with a message to wait to ship them together? Does anyone know how their customer service is?

Sorry I have only heard bad things about their customer service. Hope all goes well with your order though.

You can add another story, however they did cancel the order for the trimmings kit. Still irks me that they listed the main kit as "Notify Me" which to me as a customer means that it will be restocked. Where in fact to them it means we are not ordering any more, but IF one is returned then the will "notify me". What the heck? I do not plan on returning. Their style is a little more cutesy than I prefer, but I really liked the Tinsel and Tags kit. Whatever I guess, live and learn. My guess is they are trying to make their product exclusive with their release parties, like "oh it's so special I have to get it on the release night". They even have a forum to talk about what you are buying on the release night. (all said in a very sarcastic voice) Ok vent over thanks for reading!

I have a ton of fun making up wish lists and prioritizing everything and comparison shopping, and I find that a lot of stuff I toss on my wish list is stuff that I don't really want that badly a month later, so I'm usually glad I waited.

Yes, the wish list is handy, even at Joann's!

I actually participated in PI's release this month, as I needed a couple of things & I thought a few of the new products were cute,
I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I got my order. I've never had any of my orders messed up & never had to deal with customer service, although I have seen plenty of discussion on how "it used to be."
