I've noticed for quite awhile on YouTube videos that a lot of "celebrity" crafters, who are getting products for pre-release items to make samples and inspiration for others - are constantly using rainbow colors of ink or paper? It's getting a bit old, and yes I've stopped watching once I see the rainbow colors. Has anyone else noticed and tired of it? Just wondering why that's the go-to for everyone. I would love to see some mono-chromatic colors for new release of products.
Just my Saturday morning thought as I watch videos with my cup of Joe while I wake up...
PS: This has nothing to do with Pride month (which would make sense and explain a bunch) but this has been going on for a year at least.

I think it's just the chandelier (random icon) of the moment.

If they are on design teams, using the whole rainbow encourages people to buy more, because in order to replicate the project, they would need to buy every color. And also appeals to those of us that like to collect the whole set, lol.

It isn't what I put on my layouts, but this too shall pass.

That is very cute! I'm liking the rainbow trend. Great for pride photos! I'm not much of a stamper. I'd probably just use the metal die and scraps of cardstock instead. I guess I should check out youtube more. I get annoyed at how long tutorials go. I'm good with just seeing photos 90% of the time.

Hedgehogs, bikes, butterflies, zebras, llamas, chandeliers, chevrons, hexagons, unicorns, mermaids, hashtags, shaped photos (circles, squares, hearts), those stick figure people...
All trends.
And now rainbows.
This too shall pass. But I am loving them on cards. We need bright and cheery and hopeful right now so I am all about it.

Victoria Marie had a great layout for Pride this week with a rainbow. Love that she shares her family the way she does. I hope her journey and openness can help another family.

I was born in 1977, rainbows were my childhood... (Rainbow Brite, Care Bears, rainbow sticker collection...) Maybe it's a nostalgia thing?

I’m a fan of rainbow colors so I really like it. It actually draws me inTo the projects.
Now I am not a fan of “wonky” rainbows like those Taylored Expression ones. That is a big turn off for me.

I adore rainbows. Like @breetheflea said, it was a big part of my childhood. I’ve found that rainbow is my favorite color scheme for my classroom too. I buy six of everything, but I don’t care. I love my classroom looking so cheerful and seeing these colors come over to my scrappy world makes me happy. The only thing that drives me bonkers are the rainbows with colors in the wrong order. Makes me cringe each and every time.

I'm not entirely sure if we're talking about actual rainbows, or just rainbow/multiple colours? If it's the latter, I admire scrapbookers who can make a cohesive looking layout using multiple colours or patterns. I'm very much a monochromatic / matchy scrapbooker. I do want to push myself out of my comfort zone to create using more coordinating colours and patterns but I always end up doing what feels safe to me. Perhaps I should set myself a little monthly challenge! I think if someone is creating using pre-release products or products they have received in order to showcase, it's understandable for them to be using lots of varying colours in their projects. They will want to let people see the variety of colours available and how they look once they are applied

Do you think it’s a seasonal thing? I feel like every Late spring I want to bring out the rainbows. I do think rainbows are having a bit of a moment and are everywhere but I feel like they were last year too.
I will never get sick of them but I do feel like I have seen a lot of cards that are super similar with them. I would love to see something different.
I loved watching victoria Marie’s video today because it had so much heart in it. More of that is what we need in scrapbooking.

I like some rainbows and I love documented pride layouts in rainbow cardstock or rainbow colored stickers, BUT I hate the too-kid-ish looking ones that I see a lot. Seriously, they look like a 6 yo drew them. I don't get those. Also, agree w/posters who mentioned that rainbow stamping is all about selling lots of ink colors

All the Lisa Frank rainbows and Mrs. Grossman's as well as Hallmark sticker rainbows and alllllll the other stickers. I had a lot of rainbows in my sticker books as well as iron on patches.

Also, Inky did a non-traditional rainbow background paper which I really liked. But then she covered it in a lot a lot of stickers - way too much for me - but she liked it and I liked watching it. Here is the layout. I like rainbows that have this non-traditional color scheme. And Elle's Studio has a rainbow paper that's also a bit non-traditional - it's in two sheets - a cool and a warm. Here is the cool.

Rainbows make me happy. And right now, I’ll take all the happy I can get. 😂 I’ve been making my fair share. I just love making mixed media rainbow layouts right now.

I was never a fan of rainbowed colors until recently. I say rainbow all the things!
In my case it's not actual rainbows like the arc, but how one color fades into the next. And it doesn't have to be the entire ROYGBIV. And I'll take an ombre effect any day. Love it!

I'm referring to using the rainbow colors to ink up the backgrounds on cards, and then placing the focal point on top of it. The focal point has nothing to do with rainbows. I have just found it to be super trendy right now. I have a hard time seeing the focal point in any other way except rainbows after the video, so it would be nice to see some of the new products in not the rainbow colors. I just watched a JM video and she did a rainbow but with only half the rainbow colors, and then repeated - I did like that! I did see Victoria Marie's video with the rainbow layout, which I liked, and her story. Thanks all for the comments!

I like rainbows, but I'm getting tired of seeing everything rainbow too. I think it might be an evolution of the ombre craze, along with other influences. You can't go by me, though, because I've stopped watching quite a few YouTubers because they don't vary their style or technique. I guess I get tired of things more easily than most.

I'm good at that But the wonky feels strange to me. I have always loved rainbows. Always loved lots of colour period. I actually hope rainbows and the current bright colour trends don't end soon. (oh my, I just went through my layout gallery on flickr, and I am apparently a rainbow addict!)

It's funny you mention rainbows. I was called a rainbow in the 1970s when I was first in the military, and in 1979 rainbow shirts were so popular I had to have one. When I scrapped those photos there was hardly a rainbow to be found.
This is going to sound weird but I feel now like rainbows represent LGBTQ pride and feel like I cant wear it without making a statement. I didn't buy DGD an adorable outfit with rainbows all over it because I felt like she would be a walking gay pride ad. My grandfather's name was Gay and all my Male relatives who were named for him in some variation changed their names. Anyway, my point is, rainbows now represent something else and while I support the movement and feel bad we even need one, I feel like rainbows have been appropriated and I don't feel ok using them unless I am scrapping something very rainbow specific.

While I would wear rainbows all the time to represent LGBTQ+ friends and loved ones, I don't think rainbows are "appropriated" by the LGBTQ+ community any more than they were "appropriated" by the Noah's ark tale and the 9 million art prints and t-shirts showing a rainbow and a bunch of cute animals. Rainbows are effects of physics and properties of light and don't "belong" to anyone. Wear, scrap away!

I love rainbow colors. Seeing supplies in rainbow order - paper, buttons, enamel dots, inks, markers etc makes me happy. Cathy Zielske has a lot of rainbow cards, I love her simple style.

I'm an art teacher so color wheels and rainbows are part of my job. I bought a Hollister ombre gay pride shirt for a work shirt.
I also wear my Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" shirts frequently. I actually had identifying that album cover as an extra credit question on my color unit.
I agree that the rainbow thing is to sell more product- it encourages people to buy all of the colors. It is really pretty, though, so I don't mind it. It works really well for my kid pages.

Well that's a healthier take on it than I have had. I need to just embrace the rainbow.

It may be smart of them to get people to buy, but I am not one of those people. In recent months, the only rainbow type stuff I like is Vicki Boutin papers.
I also am almost over starbursts. I have used Vicki's starburst paper, and maybe Paige Evans, recently, but you can only use it/see it for so long. Right now, EVERYONE is doing it, so everyone's [pages look the same.

They have branched out into different colored flags based on sexual preference. I should buy This type of paper for my daughter and will use the colors, but rainbows make me happy. I also think it's fun to use them in an ironic kind of way. Like a photo of my grumpy son and a title saying he's a ray of sunshine. I'd incorporate a rainbow!
