As the mom of a couple of boys, I had to get used to loud and sustained noise levels. I am good there...but tippy, tappy, thumpy bumpy repetitive noises?? OMG. I want to scream.
You know, the kid is at the table eating tapping his foot. Or tapping a pencil while doing homework. Or drumming his fingers while playing video games. Whatever.
Those are the soundtrack of my nightmares. I imagine that if I am ever interrogated, forget waterboarding...just sit me down to a dripping faucet and I will tell you the password to my bank account and what size I really wear in no time flat.

There's been some discussion lately about womens' high voices, and discrimination/comments they've received in professional settings regarding the way they sound.
Fair or not, I don't like listening to the high, nasal voices that some women have.
Also, people who use a lot of filler words like "you know.. I mean...ummmmm....like...." Some of this has to do with long-time relationships and the frustrations tied with spending 8+ hours per day with someone.

LOL I am so glad there are others who hate whistling, ugh I always thought I was the only one haha! I can't stand loud eaters, lip smacking, loud gum chewing, my husband's snoring or the static on the radio that he never seems to hear when we are driving and the radio station he has the radio on suddenly is out of range ugh! People who have colds and sniffle constantly geez louise get a damned Kleenex and constant throat clearing I worked with someone that did it all the time it was so annoying.
Eating while on the phone well that is just rude.

My dh's jaw clacks when he eats. Every meal is a test to see I can keep myself together without going for his jugular; he's been lucky so far. Well I must have it bad because I found myself nodding my head in agreement with every noise mentioned on this thread. But one of the hardest ones has been listening to my DH chew his food. I can tolerate it if I'm eating too, but I have been known to freak out if it's just him eating. It seriously sounds like the guy is going to war with his food, chomp, chomp, gah! He has definitely gotten better though. Mornings are tough, We have twin boys who don't. stop. talking. Ever. And one of them has ADHD,OCD, and possibly PANDAS, so between his constant need for movement, talking, or tics, some days my teeth are gritting by the time I drop them off at school. It takes everything in me not to yell, GET THE HELL OUTTA MY VEHICLE.

LOL I think men and loud eating must be really common I know my husband always sounds like he is eating either his last meal or his first meal in months haha. When he eats certain things like KFC which he loves he slurps yes you read that right he slurps it ugh, he thinks it is hilarious I just want to crawl under the table and cover my ears lol.

I have met my people! Most if not all of the sounds mentioned make me crazy! Chewing sounds, drumming a pencil, etc. Whistling is the worst though. Why do people have to randomly break into whistling in public places? Is it really necessary to do in the grocery store or doctor's offices? Sometimes I notice that if I make the same sound the annoying person is making that they stop.

That reminds me one of our first dates we went on, we're sitting in the movie theatre eating popcorn, and he proceeds to suck the butter off of each finger, WITH a loud smack at the end of each finger. I about died. We joke about it now, but it still leaves me wondering how we ever married, lol.

My hubby was sneaky he was a quiet eater at first, but after 25 yrs of marriage I am too tired to train another one so I will stick with the slurper haha

I take a commuter train to work and on one particular day, I switched seats 3 times because of loud talkers and smelly food. I finally find one that was fine...I settle in, the train pulls out and the guy across the aisle starts whistling.

Snoring, my cat clawing at the carpet (which she knows she's not allowed to do but does anyway), and my dog licking her butt. These all drive me nuts.

Ever since I was little, I have always cringed at the sound of pouring liquid into a drinking glass or bowl or what have you. Small water fountains fall into this category as well.
Oh, and most recently...we've been dog sitting for much of this year and whenever the dog licks herself, I can't stand it. I have to leave the room.

Background noise bugs the crap out of me. Fans whirring, water running, noisy restaurants... I can't stand constant sound like that. But, the worst sound for me is the sound of styrofoam being pulled out of a cardboard box. For reals, just kill me now.

And the noises are everywhere, you can't go into any stores without having music blaring, restaurants, waiting rooms, it's everywhere. I've given some serious thought on whether there's a link to a lot of problems we have nowadays and the fact that the world is never silent. And not only music; TVs are everywhere too. I just want to read in the dr's waiting room, not have Rachel Ray foisted upon me. Last night we went out to eat to our neighborhood bistro and the people in the next booth were playing America's Got Talent with full audio on an iPad...in tandem with the restaurant's music. I guess the 3 TVs (muted, thank God) streaming sports weren't good enough for them. Also, monotonous mechanical sounds like leaf blowers and chain saws, the back-up beepers on trucks, high-pitched voices on either gender. The slurpy noise DH makes when eating pineapple makes me want to stab him with a fork. The guy behind me on the train from NYC last Friday who sniffled and snuffled for 2 hours rather than using a tissue--aargh!!!

The question is, "what noises don't annoy me?!" Right now it is the sound of a nail gun and the beepbeep of a bulldozer - they are building new houses across the street from me.

There are a few noises that drive me insane, insane I say!!
First is the buzzer in my car when you don't have a seatbelt on. My husband is the worst offender. He will be 1/2 way down our street before he puts on the seatbelt. Meanwhile I am getting ready to explode. Usually I say, "Hear anything???" and he puts it on. If I am really on edge I semi yell, "PUT YOUR SEATBELT ON!!!!"
Another one is strumming your fingers or nails. (How do I explain what I mean?) First you hit your pinky finger, then your ring finger, then your middle finger, then your index finger, repeat over and over. Kwim???

I don't like whistling, burping, and listening to people eat. Weird, I know! But it drives me crazy. And high pitched voices (my daughters). If they sing in a normal voice, fine, but don't sing in such a high voice.
There is constant noise in our house (yes, I am the mom of 3 girls, so it comes with the territory!).

And tapping while music is playing in the car! Between my husband and 3 daughters, I almost want to drive my own car and meet them there. They can't stop tapping! They tap their hands on steering wheel (husband) and on whatever else (daughters).

I guess I am crazy!

Fork biting noise (fork sliding over teeth). I cringe.
Eating noises--specifically smacking food.
The sound effect they use in KitKat commercials that is supposed to be a biting sound.
The sound of styrofoam being cut. My parents used planks of styrofoam in our family business when I was growing up and the squeaky sound of it being cut makes me cringe.

My hubby is lucky he's cute since does many of the annoying sounds mentioned. It drives me and DD up the wall when he hits the utensil against his teeth! He also eats movie popcorn 1 kernel at a time rather noisily.

People chewing which seems like a common complaint here. I also can't stand the sound of my sister wiping her phone screen on her jeans. She does it over and over. Sometimes she rubs her hand up and down on her jeans for no reason at all that sound drives me crazy also. It's like she petting herself and it's so annoying.

My husband will turn the tv up so loud that I can hear it in the bedroom like it is right next to me. I can't handle it up that loud. He then sits there and tries to talk to me. It is funny because we record everything we watch.. and there is a pause button. I always pause the tv then talk.
the thing that drives me nuts the most is when there is a door bell on tv and the dogs hear it and think it is our door. Then they start barking. If there was no door bells I would have peace.
I do agree about the background noise. especially when I am trying to listen to a band on tv or somehting like that they have the music part louder then the person singing.

I dislike ANY noise when I'm trying to sleep. I'm a very light sleeper and any sounds or noises will keep me awake for hours. (And yes, I've tried foam ear plugs but they hurt my ears so that doesn't work for me.) I tolerate DH's CPAP machine because it's so much better than the alternative, but it still drives me nuts. At least his new one is a lot quieter than the old one was!

I have been hearing-impaired since I was a child, most notably my teens. I wore a hearing aid from the time I was 15 until the age of 46, when I had cochlear implant surgery. I had to turn it off a lot when it was noisy, and then there were certain sounds I either never heard or never noticed, due to concentrating on what I did need to hear. Now that I have the CI, I turn it off quite a bit, LOL. I can't stand hearing my dh eating while I am trying to watch TV. I am talking about loud stuff, not pudding. LOL. I have always hated to hear a chip or cookie bag crinkling. That sound just about drives me over the edge.
I still need closed-captions on my TV, so often I will watch TV without my CI, so I don't always have the issue, but I have noticed a lot of music or other sounds seem to drown out the dialogue. I also don't understand why they would do that. I normally then do turn off my CI so that I can watch the show in peace and read the dialogue.
I HATE to hear the second hand on my clock ticking. I have one in my scrapbook room and it really drives me crazy. I don't have music playing or anything like that. I am one that has to concentrate on what I am doing. I can't play music while working because I find that I either ignore it completely, or want to sing along.
I have always wondered why so many people have to have "noise" going all the time. DH turns on the radio in the car immediately and that drives me crazy. I think it's mostly because I did go so many years not being able to understand the lyrics or on talk radio, the words, so I just hate it all.

The noise created when the back windows in the car are down and I'm sitting in the front seat. It acutally hurts my ears! I can't stand to have any windows down when a car is moving, but the back only down actually causes me discomfort.
I love silence. My DBIL came over one day for a family gathering, he was the first to arrive and immediately asked me if our TV was broken because it wasn't on.
