I'm pretty sure I have misophonia, so pretty much all unnecessary noises really, really bug me. Tv being one of the worst. Every show has to have background music for whatever reason, and it's often just as loud as what I'm actually trying to hear. Or I'm watching a show and commercials come on, and each single commercial has insanely loud, annoying, hyped up music. Right now I have AFV on, just loud enough to hear the host, but once again the music is as loud as the host.
And the worst? Our tv got smashed by a toy, so we're using an old box tv with no volume remote until Christmas.
I cant stand hanging out with some family/friends because they'll have the tv or stereo cranked and you're just supposed to talk over the noise. I'm either listening to music, or I'm chatting. Not both. Ever. Am I a wackadoodle or does any else really hate that nothing can just be silent anymore?

It seems like the more tired I get, the more sensitive to noises I get; especially at night. I LOVE silence. It's my favorite thing when driving. I am not a multi tasker. I lose concentration easily if I'm on my laptop or trying to read a book and the TV is going.

Tinny sounds. Like when someone plays music out of their phone speaker on the bus.
Also, when the car stereo is just quiet enough to not be able to know what song is playing.

Yes, silence is bliss! Our one son has a verbal tic, usually by his bedtime I'm a basket case. We're really hoping for some answers soon or I might just take up drinking.
And the noises are everywhere, you can't go into any stores without having music blaring, restaurants, waiting rooms, it's everywhere. I've given some serious thought on whether there's a link to a lot of problems we have nowadays and the fact that the world is never silent.

I am right there with you (as is my teen DD). Many noises make me edgy including TV on. We pretty much cut the cable and the only TV anyone watches is in our room (with Netflix) , so at least I can close the door.
I was in the hall bath at 5 a.m. this morning expecting peace and quite (and darkness). DH was up early to leave for Vegas, so he had his bedroom door open and playing talk radio. Ugh. I don't like talk radio except in the car and even then, sometimes not since I feel like I really have to pay attention to the get the gist of what they are saying.
I really value silence and noise just for noise sake can make me crazy.
ETA: DH, DD, and I met with a college consultant at Starbucks last week Sunday. It was so noisy between the music and some guy tapping away frantically on a game on his Ipad that I suggested we go outside. Luckily, she thought that was a great idea.

The commercials just seem so loud so I always turn the volume down between shows. I hate fast, repetitive sounds and I do enjoy silence

I have misophonia so there are a LOT of noises that bother me. I can't have the TV on unless I am watching it. Eating in meetings! I was in another meeting where someone was eating something that sound like carrots, but wasn't carrots. I was trying to be kind and say nothing and finally this other woman got mad and told her to stop eating that stuff. I just cannot believe making that much noise in a meeting and being unaware of it.
Pen clicking. Nail clipping (yes, in the office!). Food noises. Spoon/fork hitting a bowl (my kids do this all the time)

My dh's jaw clacks when he eats. Every meal is a test to see I can keep myself together without going for his jugular; he's been lucky so far.

What sound drives me crazy? Silence. It is the most frustrating, stressful, annoying thing to be in a silent room particularly when I am trying to sleep or trying to do something that involves concentration. I have never understood people who prefer that to having some kind of noise. I don't like loud noise, but I have to have something there or my mind goes crazy trying to fill the void.

Why, oh why, do they have to have such loud music as background on TV shows? I can't hear what the characters are saying sometimes. Also the exhaust fan over my stove, have to shut it off after awhile.

I'm another one who has noticed recently the background music on some TV shows is louder than usual, and I often end up turning them off because I honestly cannot hear the voices. No point in turning volume up because the music just gets equally louder. What is up with that?? It really has become worse lately.

Eating sounds for sure. I'm totally fine when we're all having a meal together or eating a snack at the same time. It's just when it's silent otherwise and someone is eating....aaaaacckkkkkkkk!

Another thing that grates on my nerves--listening to someone eat when I'm on the phone with them. For real? You couldn't call me after you ate your damn salad?

When the kids are listening to something from You Tube. It's almost always someone talking about how to place some video game. My sister's house has everything loud from t.v., music and talking. Even a car ride with her involves loud music and open windows. It can be so loud sometimes that it hurts. She doesn't care if it bothers other people. The bathroom fan.

I have misophonia, so lots of kinds of noises send me through the roof. Unfortunately, a lot of it is from my dh who has a lifelong habit o humming or "clicking" along to music. So even if he puts on headphones, he's over there humming and clicking away. Sometimes he is not even listening to music, he's hearing it in his head and humming and clicking away. He tries not to do it around me, but when you've been doing something for nearly 60 years, it's a struggle to break the habit. Then again, for me, it's a daily struggle not to go for his jugular. Daily. Struggle.
Also - whistling. OMG. But that seems to annoy almost everyone. We had someone in our office area waiting for a meeting yesterday and he was 50 feet down the hallway behind a door and we could all hear this guy whistling. I probably cannot convey how incredibly loud and annoying it was. Literally everyone in our office was irritated and talking about it. They begged me to do something because he just was not stopping. Plus every so often, he'd whistle this high-pitched single tone. WTAF! How can you not think that is irritating to others? I finally went in and told him he had to stop or a whole floor full of people would be coming in to have a "word" with him. He shut up, but then after his meeting was over, he walked to the elevator whistling with a smirk on his face. Someone actually threw a book in his direction. I did not reprimand that person.

Exhaust fans. I can only have them on the bare minimum necessary.
I am prone to sensory overload so a lot of noises put together will agitate me. But I can't have absolute silence either or my tinnitus will drive me nuts. (Going for a hearing test in a sound proof room was TORTURE.)

I've noticed news has become like this...ominous noise in the background while the news is being delivered. I have to turn it off.

For me it is the traffic lights at the corner two properties over. They make two different chirping sounds, one for north/south walk light and one for east/west walk light. They go 24/7 so the only time you have no sound from them is during the amber light.
I can hear them even when all the windows are shut.
They used to be on one of those push button things so that people who needed the sound to know when to cross could use them. But most people think those are to control the lights which none do and they would pound on them thinking that would make the lights change and of course broke them. So now they just go forever.
And I am a person who loves silence.

Yes, those 'realistic sounds' put onto programs keep me from hearing the actual dialog. And a TV on in someone's house used as 'company' by the resident.

TVs in waiting rooms and restaurants. When did we reach the point where we need to have a TV blaring at us EVERYWHERE we go? Drives me nuts.

Flossing teeth, thumping from music and cannot hear all the music, just the thumping, eating with mouth open, cracking gum, clearing your throat and constant sniffling.
