I didn't make myself clear. How do people who say they, don't know anyone, know. I guess the same way as those who know someone - no one they know has told them that they had it or suspected they had it. And if someone you knew died from it, I imagine that there would be at least rumours that it was Covid that caused it. What I'm saying (and not very well, I guess) Is that someone you know could have had/has it and you not know.

I didn't make myself clear. How do people who say they, don't know anyone, know. Gotcha, I read it wrongly. I imagine there are areas, especially the very rural, where there haven't been any cases. But near me, it was really bad for months. The numbers here are finally dropping because most people are taking it very seriously. Yes I live in a really rural area. My county is less than 17,000. We have had a total of 25 cases. But I don't know who those 25 are. But I bet I would know one of them if I knew the names. Not that I want to know, it's not my business. And I live in trump ville, so most are not taking this seriously, at all. So I'm sure we will have lots more cases.

Nope, don't know a single person. Amongst my friends, they don't know anyone either.

But we had no new cases reported last week, crossing our fingers.

My aunt and uncle both had it. They were very sick at home for over 3 weeks. Neither required hospitalization, both recovered. A retired coworker of mine had it, he was hospitalized and recovered. I read about his ordeal in the newspaper. Another co worker just had an uncle and two aunts die from it.

I don't know anyone who had covid , but we are still very careful. Arizona is going thru the roof right now and really upsetting that there are people protesting against the mask. That they have the right to choose...well this is about public safety, period. There are plenty of laws out there for the safety of the public, should we start protesting all of them?

One of dh's coworkers tested positive said it was just like having a cold for him. A friend of mine that is a nurse in a hospital in England lost her sense of taste and smell but it was not on the list of symptoms at the beginning when it happened, so she continued to go to work, ended up a week later getting the high fever, fatigue etc... So they had her stay home but never tested her. She finally (about 2 weeks ago) had the antibody test and it was positive. It makes us all worry how many people were infected while she was still going to work in that first week. She says it's the sickest she's ever felt, but didn't have any breathing issues. My dd's friend had it and said one day he would be so fatigued that he couldn't raise his head off the pillow and the next he'd feel pretty decent and get up and clean everything including his laundry and the next he'd be down again. He said that lasted about 2 weeks. He never had the cough or issues breathing, just the high fever and fatigue.
We have been careful from the beginning and continue to do so.

Because they told me. Or in the case of an acquaintance, they told someone I know that they tested positive. I didn't make myself clear. How do people who say they, don't know anyone, know. If Contact Tracing is being done correctly by your local Health Department, you will know if you've been in contact with someone who tests positive as they will be required to reach out to you as well.

Yez, I know several people. All survived, but one has what the doctors say is permanent lung damage. He was part of a family who all got it from an unknown source as they had been isolating from the beginning, having their groceries delivered, etc. The rest of them had serious cases, but he nearly died. And FTR, he was in peak physical health before he got it.

I have a friend who was diagnosed with it, along with her DH and DS. I know DS has health issues. I know he thought it was fake until he was hospitalized.
A lady who I went to college with lost her Dad to it.
We are taking it serious. I have to get screened every time I go to PT with my Mom.

Early on in late March/early April my first cousin was hospitalized and on a ventilator for a month. She went to rehab after and is at home now recovering.
Last weekend I learned an old acquaintance, someone who was in a hobby group with me years ago, died of Covid complications.
A friend of mine said her son tested positive and was without symptoms, thankfully.

Most of the people I know are my age (40s), and everyone I actually know survived (the owner of a market here I frequent died, but that was more of a small-talk situation rather than someone I would describe as a person I actually know). It took some of them months to be functional, though. sounds like the standard 'flu to me!! /s I hate, hate, hate that people don't believe it's 'real' and dangerous just because they don't know anyone personally who's had it (not meaning the OP, but I've heard that said by plenty of people IRL). I don't know anyone personally who's had Ebola, rabies, or smallpox, either (just to name a few), but that doesn't mean I don't believe they exist and they're something I DON'T want to get!! Just because I haven't been to space personally or don't know an astronaut personally doesn't mean I don't believe space is essentially a vacuum and could kill me. It's so tiring, this 'it's not real' or 'it's not that bad because *most* people don't die' type of belief. And yet some of those people believe the Bible is the direct word of God, believing it word for word. But they never met Matthew, John, or Jesus in person!! It's so tiresome!! I'm sooo sorry to all of you who know friends, family members, co-workers, etc. who have had COVID and either passed away or now have to live with the after-effects. ETA: to the OP's question: one of my co-workers is positive, although we haven't been told the name of the specific person due to privacy laws; the brother of another co-worker (presumed positive-- it was before anyone who hadn't traveled outside the US could get tested). Also the son of one of my DH's co-workers has tested positive.

So far, just a friend of a friend and a relative of another friend.
I understand some students from my daughters’ school went to the beach a few weeks ago and some returned and tested positive. That’s just what I’m hearing through the rumor mill, though. I don’t know any specifics.

Just curious. Arguing with a family member about Covid precautions and they aren’t worried and ONE reason is because they don’t know anyone who has had it. Neither do I, but I still take it very seriously! We are at less then 10 so far in our county, 2 active. Know them all.

My cousin's husband just died today. She was also hospitalized with it and their son who lives with them also has it. My husband's aunt died, my sister-in-law's aunt died, and a classmate of mine recovered from it. I'm having a harder time every day containing my anger at people who won't take this seriously. I think I find the people who started out taking all the precautions but then just decided they were "done" even more infuriating than the initial deniers.

Yes, my Aunt died in March. She wasn't in the best of health anyhow and was on borrowed time. The covid itself didn't, on its own, kill her but it was a contributing factor. My uncle and my step cousin, my uncle married a widow with three children. They both had a fairly mild form, pretty poorly for a week or so but both are now recovered with,as far as we know, no lasting effects although they still suffer fatigue.
My sister's friend had it too, a couple of months ago. She was pretty poorly for about 3 weeks but didn't need hospitalisation, and she's still not 100% even now but is gradually getting better. I do know of 3 others. Two died and one was on a ventilator but now recovering. They were from the same extended family. I don't "know" them personally but I do know who they are. They're friends of a friend.

Our very healthy 23-year old daughter had it. Fortunately, it was an extremely mild case, as I am 1,000 miles away from her, and of course couldn't have done anything even if I had driven there. She had a low fever, very mild shortness of breath, lost her sense of taste and smell for a week or so and had the "covid toes". Within six days of testing positive, she felt fine, but had to remain quarantined for the full 14 days.

It took some of them months to be functional, though. sounds like the standard 'flu to me!! /s A friend of ours tested negative, but his doctors are sure he had it (which is in itself worrisome, yes?) He is my age, in good shape (and was a recruited college athlete), and it's now more than two months out from when he was really sick -- he is still often too weak to go sit on his own porch, and his doctors say his current lung condition is that of someone who has worked in the coal mines for years :/. I think often people think of this as "not that many people die," but being a parent of a young child and spending months incapacitated (with no guarantee you'll be getting back to normal) isn't great, either.

These accounts are so sad. I am so sorry for all of you who have lost someone. It's horrible.
I believe my son and I had it. I'll be tested when antibody tests are better. My groomer believes she had it and did an antibody test that confirmed it. She had to drive 1.5 hours to get a test done. They don't do them around here.
Otherwise, no one has told me they have had it, but there aren't a lot of cases in my town. My daughter is from NYC and she knows quite a few people who have had it and one person who died from it. All of her people were under 40 and most under 30.

Yes. I personally knew a police officer who died. He was 38 and left behind a wife and two very young children. I also know of casual acquaintances who have tested positive but were lucky. I also have a friend who is a teacher and was required to come into work to help collect chrome books with another teacher. That teacher’s husband tested positive with no symptoms. That teacher is now very ill. My friend is still waiting for her test results and she has three young children at home.
