The Dick Van Dyke show was a bit before my time. It was one of the after school syndicated shows of my childhood. I'm so sad to wake up to the news of Carl's passing this morning. He truly has left an incredible legacy.

What a profound tweet 2 days before he died. Wow. I'm not overly familiar with him (more familiar with Rob), before my time. But what a life he's had.

from the AP story:
He married his wife, Estelle, in 1943. Besides son Rob, the couple had another son, Lucas, a film director, and a daughter, Sylvia, a psychoanalyst and author. Estelle Reiner, who died in 2008, had a small but memorable role in Rob Reiner’s “When Harry Met Sally...” — as the woman who overhears Meg Ryan’s ersatz ecstasy in a restaurant and says, “I’ll have what she’s having.”
lol!! I never knew that part was played by his wife! that's great.
They were married 65 years, when she died. <sigh> A good marriage.

I'm so sad about this. I loved the 2000 year old man. May his memory be for a blessing to all who knew him and all who laughed w/him.

You gave us a lot of laughter and joy and new ways to think about people.

This news made me so sad. I follow him on Twitter and I think he posted two days ago something beautiful. I love every word out of his mouth. He was a great writer, a wonderful comedian and a powerful voice for justice. Apparently, he was also an extraordinary father and that is unusual for someone in his line of business. He was magnificent!
p.s. If anyone has not watched The Dick Van Dyke show, I highly recommend. They never used political jokes, so while it's dated vis-a-vis race/sex, it's still pretty fresh. The Haunted House episode was one of my very favorites.

Aww... I HIGHLY recommend that y'all watch a show he was in with Mel Brooks---they were lifelong friends, and it's them chatting (and LAUGHING A LOT!) with Jerry Seinfeld. My Dad loved it SO much, he's watched it more than once. On Netflix, look for "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee" and search for Carl Reiner. Plus, ALL of the epis are fun to watch---it's just Jerry Seinfeld going for coffee with different comedians and chatting. We noticed that for the episode with Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks, it was much longer than any other episode. We always wished we could see MORE of the footage, not to mention if there were any out takes P.S....WOW!!! I went to you tube to get a clip, and there aren't any from the show I'm referring to, but----SOOO many other clips of them together !!!!!!!
