Rand Paul’s Coronavirus Fix: ‘We Just Need More Optimism’ www.thedailybeast.com/rand-paul-slams-dr-anthony-fauci-and-coronavirus-experts-says-we-just-need-more-optimism"During a tense exchange on Capitol Hill, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) on Tuesday blasted the nation’s top public health experts for their lack of optimism during the unprecedented, highly lethal, and surging coronavirus pandemic. “We need to not be so presumptuous that we know everything,” the Kentucky Republican said during an impassioned plea to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions about the need for schools to reopen. He went on to call America’s public health community “fatally” arrogant. “Perhaps our planners might think twice before they weigh in on every subject,” Paul added. “Perhaps our government experts might hold their tongue before expressing their opinion.”"
Yeah, that's the problem Rand. We need to listen less to experts (aka people who've given over their education and careers to study of a subject) and more to self-serving narcissists and Trump's spiritual advisors and clowns. That'll fix it.

Well, that theory does fall right in line with his fearless leader’s thought process of “if you ignore it, it isn’t real.”

“Perhaps our planners might think twice before they weigh in on every subject,” Paul added. “Perhaps our government experts might hold their tongue before expressing their opinion.”" And how often does HE claim to be the expert, holding the Senate at a stand still by his one dissent vote and frequently!

That’s up there with just praying away the virus. Only thinking happy thoughts isn’t going to fix any of these problems.

Public health experts don’t need to weigh in on every public health threat? And that asshole is a doctor! Good lord, he’s awful.

I was thinking the exact same thing. The stupidity. Well we tried that method in several states and look what is happening there. How can they be so blind and stupid?

Um, didn't he test positive? Yea, ok. To me, he's pushing a veiled narrative to get the economy back on track because he just can't take the opposite of federal intervention to address the pandemic in my mind.

WTH! I swear, he's an attention whore. That can only explain the stupid crap he says. My feeling exactly. I also think that he was trying so hard to have a standout moment so it could be shown to his douchebag leader. I'm sure that he got points for being so rude and demeaning to Dr.Fauci. I watched this live this morning/afternoon, and it was so uncomfortable and non-productive.

I watched the first part of the hearing in stunned silence. Rand Paul was a particular brand of stupid.
He thinks he is being so caring and optimistic in urging all kids back to school because the American Pediatric Association says kids need school. Kids need their friends and teachers. Kids need the services provided by schools. Kids need the structure and education they deserve.
All true. No argument there.
However, you'd think schools would be fully funded if school attendance is so important to government officials. You think education would be the #1 priority in our nation if they care so much. Teachers wouldn't have to buy their own supplies! No child would go to school in a rundown building! Schools would have technology for all, libraries overflowing with books, and teachers for art, music, PE, foreign language, and dance. There would be social workers and school nurses and wrap-around services. Because dammit, schools and education are important!
What they care about is daycare so the worker bees can get back to work. And yes, I get how important it is to get people working, but everything we hear about staying safe and well points to not gathering in places that don't have ventilation, not gathering in large numbers, and practicing social distancing. All three of those equal school.
But hey, what's a few sacrificial lambs when it comes to the economy and the president's reelection? I feel for those of you starting in August.

I guess he already had it so isn't worried?
It is incredibly frustrating to see the numbers drop elsewhere while we've politicized basic precautions like wearing masks.

Rand Paul is going for the soundbite that will be repeated ad nauseum and ‘atta’boy’d within Right Wing World.
I remember when he did the exact same thing at the hearings a couple months ago. He blustered that Dr. Fauci shouldn’t be the lone person to decide whether schools open. Wrinkle: Nothing Dr. Fauci had said would lead a person to reasonably believe that was the plan.
Doesn’t matter, though, because neither Fauci’s televised initial comment nor follow-up denial would be included in Right World News - just the “Arrogant, overstepping [curled lip] experts” narrative Rand Paul is meticulously crafting for public consumption.
Professional disinformation at its best.

Nobody in government gives a shit about the public schools until they need us to babysit the workers' kids.

What drug was he on when he went to Duke Medical School that brainwashed him into believing in less science rather than more? I guess we can see why he left medicine to go into politics. One career requires science and reliance on facts. The other career just requires ... hmm? Apparently there are no skills needed to become a senator or president.

One career requires science and reliance on facts. The other career just requires ... hmm? Apparently there are no skills needed to become a senator or president. As a reminder about greedy Rand National Board of Ophthalmology In 1995, Paul passed the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) boards.[25] Prior to this, in 1992, the ABO had changed its certification program, which had previously awarded lifetime certifications, instead requiring doctors to recertify every 10 years (cuz, you know, shit changes and docs should keep up!). Those who had already been given lifetime certification were allowed to keep it (according to the ABO, they would not legally have been able to rescind these certifications). Shortly after this change, Paul began a campaign to protest it. This effort culminated in 1997 with him creating, "along with 200 other young ophthalmologists", the National Board of Ophthalmology (NBO) to offer an alternative certification system, at a cost substantially lower than that of the ABO.[26][27][28] Its certification exam, an open book take-home test, was described by one taker as "probably harder" and "more clinically relevant" than the ABO's exam.[26] Named board members were Paul, his wife, and his father-in-law.[29] The NBO was, itself, never accepted as an accrediting entity by organizations such as the American Board of Medical Specialties,[19] and its certification was considered invalid by many hospitals and insurance companies. Paul let his own ABO certification lapse in 2005, which did not affect his practice in Kentucky; the state does not require board certification. By Paul's estimate, about 50 or 60 doctors were certified by the NBO.[26] The NBO was incorporated in 1999, but Paul allowed it to be dissolved in 2000 when he did not file the required paperwork with the Kentucky Secretary of State's office. He later recreated the board in 2005, but it was again dissolved in 2011.[30]
