Son in law had symptoms daughter asymptomatic both tested positive. Both fine now lucky grands didn't get it from them. I think my youngest granddaughter will be walking and talking before I ever meet her in person. She is 5 months old and the state started shutting down the weekend we were supposed to go.

So I was just at the store. I needed to run out and figured if I ran out on my "lunch" hour it'd be less crazy than tomorrow. A mom with 2 kids (maybe 8-9) was in line before me, talking to the guy in line behind me. They're going to Lake George, the virus is only an issue in the southern states plus they'll be outside and that's fine even w/out masks. Guy behind me was saying the same thing. He's going to a friend's lake house for the 4th, there's a HUGE party every year and this year they have more people than ever coming. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I guarantee we're going to see spikes EVERYWHERE after the holiday I have a coworker on her way to Lake George right now. She's renting a lake house with a group of people.

I had just read a different article about this man. This stood out: (USA Today) It’s astonishing to me that so many people seem to have viewed restriction lifting as a signal that life is now less risky than it was three months ago. It’s the same risk; we’re just more individually responsible for behavioral precautions now that we’ve done been sprung. I suppose we can lump these people (who think like this unfortunate man did) in with people who believe pre/asymptomatic people are no-or-less contagious. But how can people not be consuming every bit of information they can about how this virus is transmitted? Someone on the Colorado subreddit put it aptly: "lifting restrictions doesn't mean Covid is gone and you're safe, it just means the hospital ICUs have room for you now if you get it."

A kindred spirit! When a friend asked if I’d be interested in an outdoor restaurant, I explained my refusal thusly: “I’m really glad Illinois now has both empty ICU beds and more tests available, but I have no interest in needing either one.”

I'm not doing anything too risky a d I wear a mask when I go somewhere, but in a month I am going to be in a classroom where in my class alone I will be exposed to around 90 students. Then in the hallways ill be exposed to 600 of them, plus 50ish staff members
Dh has been working in the hospital this whole time.
In one month, there will be very little i can do to protect myself.

My Like was purely out of sympathy, not actual liking. We are headed to middle school in mid-August (which is scary enough not even counting COVID). The district says they are preparing for any situation from full-time learning at home, to full-time all students in school. Likely to be something in between like two days a week on site, the rest at home. All (virtually all) MS kids are idiots. I don’t want the 11yo to get sick, I don’t want to get sick, and I don’t want to take it to my 90+yo parents, either. Actually, if he’s going to be physically back in school, maybe I will need to stop seeing my mom, period. Yikes.

Oh come on now, you should be totally willing to risk your life for the economy. Do it for the children! When did Sock become a gramma? 😜 Didn't you hear? Teachers are the next-up sacrificial lambs for the economy. Gramma or not. Fun fact, because I looked this up: in Texas, 30% of public school teachers are over the age of 50. 11% are over 55. Should be fun when a bunch of them start getting sick. That's not counting all those with immune disorders or other underlying health conditions. (Another fun fact: all this talk of keeping kids and classroom teachers safely confined to pods to reduce their exposure is great for everyone except the specialists, who typically see every kid in the school every week. We are exposed to whatever is going around.)

It is important to remember that this does not apply if you are in a smaller less populated area of TX. Or Calaveras County, CA. Local facebook post... "Calaveras county's population is 45,000. So, out of all of these people, only 40 have been sick in four months. That equates to 0.0085%. Now, out of the 2,437 that have been tested in four months, only 1.6% were sick. We have ZERO deaths! LET US LIVE ALREADY!"

No matter how safe we are in our daily job, it's all for nothing if our kids aren't being safe at school and home as well.

Mask every minute that you can. Buy stock in Purell (or B&BW). Get lots of rest and sunshine after school. I'll be keeping you in my prayers for safety and peace of mind!

This is pretty local to me and while everyone says what’s great guy he was say well he was obese and diabetic so... these are people that knew him. It’s disgusting. They are sorry he is dead but he had preexisting conditions so that’s why he is dead like he would have dropped dead in days anyways. Unbelievable. No they didn’t say that but it’s just unbelievable that even after they see someone they know die are so cold about it.
People here think it’s fake that if you feel fine you are fine. If your not sick you don’t need a mask. I’ve seen it on posts locally a hundred times and they won’t listen to facts.

I really wish the news would tell more stories like this snd about the weddings where 18 family members got sick, multiple in the hospital snd one of two died because someone didn’t have symptoms yet snd spread it. I see them online and hear it’s happening all over so why not put that in the news to wake people up.
Then again the story that was posted I don’t think most think they will get it because they are young and healthy.

And with Florida having 5,000 new cases each day my hubby wants to attend a BBQ with about 20 people. Oh, Hell.

Can't wait to go back to school in person with 1100 people. Right??? I am getting increasingly anxious about this. I feel like I can't even "rest and recharge" this summer because I'm so afraid of what fall will look like. I know at least one colleague in my department has already resigned because he doesn't think it's worth the risk. I truly feel that if we return to in person instruction, that it's just a matter of time until I get sick.

Why can’t the one who knew he was sick be charged with assault and manslaughter?

Denial is very powerful. The reality of covid sucks so if I can buy into all these myths, I can stay in my denial bubble. Add confirmation bias to denial and you can discount anything there doesn’t support your bubble.
