I have never had an Uncrustable of any flavor. Does it taste just like a regular PB&J? I have a little gadget that I got from Pampered Chef, I think it was, that is stainless steel and round with a plunger on top. It seals in the sandwich stuffing and cuts the bread in one movement. I have also used it for giant ravioli a few times. I used to mainly use it for my son's lunches. It made a really nice seal on soft bread. Is this essentially the same type of thing?
I know there is a history of some peas flipping out that moms put these into their kid's lunches. Why? Are they higher in calories and less nutrition than a sandwich you make yourself? Or are they claiming you are lazy for not making a PB&J from scratch? I never read those threads because my son was grown by then and not taking lunches from home. If my son was taking lunches and asked for an Uncrustable, I would have no problem sending them.
Also, I tried Nutella because everyone was claiming it was the best thing ever. I bought it at Costco when Mom was living with me because she was a chocoholic and I figured she would like some Nutella crepes. It came as two large jars taped together. Truthfully, we both really didn't like it. I don't know why, but it just didn't taste good. I ended up throwing the opened one out and donating the second one in the next food donation through the post office. Maybe we got a bad batch or something but it was pretty gross. It just didn't taste very chocolatey at all.

So that probably explains why you didn't think it tasted chocolatey. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/OrTI4SBmZ2ZYSFv6ag4f.jpg) It does have cocoa in it, but hazelnuts are the main ingredient.

The neighbor gave me some one time, but my snooty 11yo (who ordered oysters on the half shell for lunch last week at a seafood place) won’t eat them. I thought they were okay but I’m not as snooty as he is. purplebee , I think they sound like a great choice for easy bagged school lunches. I think he said they give them out at our school for kids who forgot their lunch and don’t have a lunch card on file. As long as they can have peanuts which the vast majority can. DYING! LOL

shut the front door! Oh man DD loves Nutella. So much so that I stopped buying it because she'd sneak spoonfuls and then I'd find all these spoons all over the house, lol. She's older now so I think it's safe to buy these. My Nutella lover is 19...still finding spoons around the house! Also guilty of dipping in a spoon myself...but when finished I put the spoon in the dishwasher 😜 My 8 year old scored the mostly empty nutella jar. She used a jar scraper and ate every last bit of it. I gotta say, I was a bit jealous! Usually I'm the one making the sandwiches (peanut butter and nutella) and score the jar.

I wish I had known this before I bought it. I knew there was hazelnuts in it, but I assumed it was mainly chocolate.

I've never had one of these. I like PB&J, but I don't like grape or strawberry jam. I thought I heard savory ones were going to be coming out, those might be good.

He went out to dinner once with BFF and the dad came to the door when dropping him off to ask if we really let him order whatever he wanted in a restaurant. DS had discovered life beyond the kids menu and wasn't going back. Lobster was involved. We have friends that always bring uncrustables for their son when they come to dinner. I always think of the peas when I see them.

There was a whole lot of judging going on about moms using prepared foods rather than making all meals and snacks from scratch. I don’t think that any of the people doing the judging at the time are still here.

I have never understood why some women will so happily tear another woman down for such a silly thing like this. Are their lives so empty that they need to criticize someone in order to feel superior? They have no idea what is going on in another mother's household. And it could be as simple as the kids like the taste better and consider it a treat. Does it really matter? Women need to support each other. There is enough difficulty out there in the world. Our own sex shouldn't be adding to the pressures. Okay, off my soapbox.

I always think of the peas when I see them. When my brother and I were around 7-8, we went to Buffalo to spend the summer with my grandparents. As we were getting on the airplane, my dad said to my brother, “Be sure you order lobster while your grandfather is buying.” (He may have said it to me, too, but I wasn’t having anything to do with lobster back in those days.) So my brother did order lobster, and repeated his dad’s instructions to my grandpa, and it’s been family legend ever since. My husband said it to my son, and my son says it to his son (subs in “when grandma is buying”). Kid took it to heart. His great-grandma was buying lunch last week. When she started looking slightly outraged, I pointed out it was my dad, her late husband, who started it all, and she subsided.

Our district puts those in school lunches when classes need to-go lunches for something like a field trip or if school is suddenly cut short & they still need to provide a lunch. My boys like them, but I'm too cheap to buy them because we always have bread/PB/Jelly on hand. However, I would keep some on hand for my youngest's school lunch, but his private school doesn't allow nuts of any kind.
