We have a portable dehumidifier which we have to empty a couple times a day. Can I use this water on petunias in a pot?

I would not use the water as it is also pulling impurities out of the air with it, so I would think it is not the best water to water plants with, but probably wouldn't kill them either.

I use it on my vegetable garden and my tomatoes are growing like gangbusters.

The impurities are typically left behind when the water evaporates. As long as you keep the container clean, the water is basically distilled.

I know it is silly, but I feel like I am wasting water when I pour it out.

I think if you google this, you find conflicting opinions. It may also depend where you live and your air quality. If you live in an area that needs a dehumidifier, I would think there could chances for molds and bacteria. I know it sounds wasteful, but maybe on plants that you don't eat or the grass and trees.

I use the water from my Pin-1 dehumidifier to water some plants, but I wouldn't use it for vegetables or berries, in case you grow it.

You could use it on the garden and occasionally on pot plants, but don't only use it on potted plants. Distilled water doesn't have any minerals and nutrients, and it doesn't matter which feeds you use, there will always be trace elements that cannot be replaced by feeds.

It's distilled water. You can use it in your iron for steam!

Personally, I would treat the water from dehumidifier and A/C units as toxic waste. It is full of bacteria and all kinds of nasty stuff. For those of you that have doubt, Google Legionnaires disease. It is caused by a build up of Bacteria in A/C Units. In fact there has just been a outbreak of it this week. Don't get me wrong you may use it forever with no problems. All it takes is a little bit of this to KILL you or at very least make you very sick - read more on hvacguides101.comPLEASE DO NOT USE THE WATER FROM A/C OR DEHUMIDIFIERS FOR ANYTHING GOING INTO YOU MOUTH.

We have a European dryer that uses an evaporator—there isn’t a vent to the outside. So there’s a bin that needs to be emptied with every load. I open the window and dump it down the rain gutter. I see it as sending it back to the earth.

I use the dehumidifier water on our outdoor potted plants. None of them are edible. So far they’ve been fine and it’s easier than dragging out the hose.

Legionella bacteria can cause a horrific deadly pneumonia if you breathe them into your lungs. They are found naturally in the environment and won’t harm plants. It won’t make you sick if you ingest it. The water is fine for watering plants.
