Hi! I have been sharing my crafty projects (mostly scrapbooking related) on my crafting instagram for awhile now... @lindalovescreating. I have toyed around with the idea of creating a craft blog, but haven't gotten ready to commit... I am still thinking about it though.

I have recently wanted to explore creating video content occasionally... I don't have the time to create process videos for every project, but might want to sometimes. However, I mostly want to create videos to do album flip-thrus of my completed projects--mini albums and 12x12 project life albums once they are full. I love watching these videos from other people and you get such a better picture of what the project looks like than the instagram posts with still images of each spread. I would likely create these at sped up speed (for process videos) or regular speed (for flip thrus) and voice over because that's what I tend to like to watch, but they could also still be enjoyed on mute.

So I was wondering, are people interested in watching these videos? If so, where is the best place to share them? I am hesitant to create a youtube account because I likely won't post regularly so I wonder if people will ever find my videos. I tried posting a flip thru of my completed WITL album on IGTV but it seems that a lot of people didn't watch it (it has significantly less views than I get for posts/stories) so I'm thinking that most people didn't even notice it was there/don't use IGTV at all. Stories are just too hard to post a full flip thru because of the time limits.

Alternatively, I could start a blog and imbed my videos from youtube when I do have video content to share, but this is committing to posting on a blog regularly and I'm not sure I want to commit to this if people aren't reading blogs anymore. My blog would likely include a mix of scrapbooking, photography, life and interior design (we just built a home). I would include completed projects as well as tutorials and tips/ideas.

Is anyone interested in seeing any of this content? If so, which medium would you like? Are there other ideas beyond what I have listed? How would I get my content out there?

Note--I am not interested in doing any of this for profit, just as a hobby because I really appreciate seeing inspiration from others and get positive feedback when I share my work currently. So while I don't want to put the effort in if no one is interested in watching/seeing/reading my content, I don't care about the ability to monetize. And I'm not just saying that because I am not sure if I would have the audience for that, but I actually have a day job that prohibits outside income, so this is not something I would be interested in, even down the road.

ps. after the little snippet I saw on the stamp organisation thread of your craft room, I would LOVE a tour of your craft room, too!

I mostly watch scrap videos on YouTube. I have an Instagram account but never watch anything won it. It seems like you are leaning more towards Instagram so do what is waist for you. Or you could try to post a few things in different spots and see what works best. Good luck.

What are your goals, lasteve1 ? Sharing for the spirit of sharing is not precise enough. You're going to deal with such a big enterprise and long-term commitment far better if you narrow it down to some key guidelines.
Who are you trying to reach? Generally and more specifically. Project Life documenters? Ali Edwards product users?
What amount of weekly/monthly time are you willing to consecrate to this video project?
Which social media platform are you most comfortable with? Where is the biggest overlap with your target audience(s)?

Establising a blog for the sake of a blog in 2020 is a hard task. You'll constantly be redirecting people to it. For those who've maintained a pretty active blog in the past decade, it can still be a good option to continue using it as long as there is enough traffic left. For those who've integrated their blog to other online ventures like a shop, it's far easier to have people hop from being a potential customer to being a reader and vice versa. The blog acts like side information to the lucrative section of their website. Since that seems out of the question for you, I'd think hard about taking on a blog, especially as your initial and main communication platform.

IG is quite popular in the modern scrapbooking sphere. Paired with tools like IG stories to keep regular engagement high, IGTV for longer video shares and Linktree for any important redirects (like YouTube videos if you do go down that road), it's a solid contender.

ETA: Consider your future goals as well. If you plan on using this to build followership and apply for DTs, think about the current requirements and DT members to better prepare your plan. Where are they the most active? How do *you* follow them the most? Where do they have more followers if they're on several platforms? Which platform is the one they keep most up to date?

peachiceteas thanks! I have a little about my craft room set up plans on a saved highlight on my instagram stories and plan on putting more stories on there with tours. Maybe I will work on that this weekend

cannmom thanks for the feedback, this is what I was afraid of re: youtube... just not sure anyone would follow an account with sporadic posting.

sleepingbooty thanks for the insight, it is helpful to have more questions to think about. Project life + Ali Edwards product users are definitely my target audience... I create a mix of traditional layouts (a lot of hybrid projects), project life, and mini album projects (travel, week in the life, december daily). I use a lot of Ali Edwards, Studio Calico, Kelly Purkey, FYC and a few other brands here and there. I am very comfortable with instagram and post on my account pretty regularly, usually 2-4 posts per week with more sporadic story content. For longer videos I am not planning on devoting a specific amount of time to this, more likely I will film videos as my projects make sense: e.g. when I complete an album, I will film and post a flip through. As far as process videos this will likely only be once in awhile if I feel like it.

I might be interested in applying for DTs in the future, but only at most one at a time, if that. Like I mentioned above, I cannot have outside income so I could only take a position that paid in product and, even that is questionable. Also, I would have to look into the time commitment and determine if it was feasible. It is definitely something I want to leave as an option. I tend to follow people on instagram and youtube. I would read blogs, but my favorite crafters do not keep up their blogs/do not have them (other than Ali Edwards). I realize that blogs have fallen out of popularity but have really kept coming back to the idea because it provides a good "hub" where you can include all sorts of content. If I were to create a blog I would still likely continue my instagram as my primary means of sharing content and then just redirect to my blog when I have more info to post, but I would likely only have about one post per week. I also used to have a craft blog years ago and had a small, but decent, following but had to delete my blog when I took an appointed government position--we were not allowed to have a blog without government staff reviewing it/we had lots of oversight on our social media/online persona so deleting it was just the best option at the time. I am no longer in an appointed position, but am still in government policy, which is why there are strict rules about outside income, but I am able to post online with a lot more freedom. I always intended to recreate my blog when I switched positions, but by the time I did blogs had fallen out of popularity, hence the current conundrum.

I can only speak for myself, but the only places I typically go to are here and IG.

The blogs and YTs I visit are only because the creators market their stuff here and provide links to make it easy for me. I might find them enjoyable, but I still don't want email notifications when there are new posts.

If you want to reach the most people, I'd go with IG. I've enjoyed several flip through videos in IG stories. I would think the format would work just fine for you.

I read blogs still, and love them. I work in a situation where I have to be ready for anything, but do have down time in between. That may be why I love them so much. I also watch YouTube videos, even from sporadic posters. I do not watch IGTV at all.

I am in the 50s age range, so that probably effects my answers.
