August 2019 is done. Now I’m working on getting July 2019 & July 2020 ready to print. I scrap mostly pocket style 12x12 with full pages thrown in and smaller pages thrown in as I feel like it. Sometimes the 2 sides of a pages just don’t match the other sides orientation and I pocket scrap but on paper and sometime I just want to do a full layout.
I think 2019 might take 2 Albums and I didn’t even do weekly PL but monthly. But it’s pretty full-ish and I don’t even have July in there. So I really think I need 2 for that year. I’m pretty sure I can get 2020 into one binder/album because there is a lot of same/same going on and it’s covered in my memory planner, there isn’t a whole lot of ‘additional’ stuff to cover. I picked up some albums from Michael’s on clearance one for this year ( 2020 ) but I’m not thrilled with the color -gold, and 2 for 2021 light green being optimistic that 2021 will be better. I guess if 2021 also ends up in 1 album I can use the gold one for in progress years and not buy my albums until I know how many a year will take. And use the 2 matching light green ones for 2020 & 2021. It’s a nice green and will look good with the bright orange I now have for 2019. Right now the 2 orange ones are in my cabinet by my desk 1 as ‘in progress’ for each year 2020 & 2019. But as soon as July 2019 is done I can move that one out to my bookshelf as 2019 vol 2 complete & get started on vol 1 Jan-June.
I wish that the bright blue had been discounted as I liked that color but I am too cheap to pony up $30 especially since I haven’t bought their albums before & I don’t know how well they’ll hold up.
I don’t need all albums to be the same color but I think I’d prefer each year to match. Not sure why because my memory planners don’t completely match for vol 1 & 2 each year and that doesn’t bother me.
Ok so after all that rambling...
How many binders/albums do you usually fill each year? When do you buy them? Has anyone used the Michael’s albums how do they hold up?
Oh and how do you store page protectors? I have a stack in a drawer but I think it’s inefficient and hard to get out what I need. I’m thinking they are too big with the edge with the holes to fit in paper storage plus I think if they are stood up they might bend.

My albums are all a mishmash of colors. Most were bought on clearance. I also use some 3" binders found in the school supplies section.
I have my page protectors on the bottom shelf of a bookcase. The shelf is only about 10" tall, so I store 8x8" albums on it, and the boxes of page protectors next to them, horizontally. Fifty count of 12x12's box on the bottom, then a hundred count of 8.5x11" box on top. I can just reach down, & grab one.

When the kids were little it was probably 1 year per album. Now that my kids are grown I can easily get 2-3 years in an album. I don't scrapbook anything and everything like I did in the beginning of my scrapbooking days. All of my divided page protectors are in 2 12x12 albums. I love this system. I tend to always have a few extra albums on hand. Right now I have about 5 of the patterned BH PL albums that I bought at Scrapbook.com before they were discontinued.

My albums are also a mix and match variety of colours. The earlier ones were post-bound albums, the later ones American Craft felt albums, and now I use WRMK albums. All are 12x12 in size. I buy my albums when they are on sale, or if I see a pretty one that I cannot resist. Before I had kids, I filled four albums each year... right now, I am four albums into my kid's first 4 months of life I try to buy my scrapbook albums at the local scrapbooking store. I know, it's probably $5 - $10 more in comparison to Michael's, but I'd rather support the local mom and pop shops. As for my page protectors, I save them in the albums that are currently waiting for photos.

I currently have 25 page protectors in there so 50 ‘pages’ I have: 8 full 12x12 pages in 4 full 12 x 12 page protectors 4 9x12 Pages in 2 9x12 page protectors 4 4 x 12 ‘pages’ in 2 4x12 pocket page protectors 2 6x12 pages in 1 6x12 pocket page protectors 32 pocket pages in 16 pocket page protectors I could probably fit 2 more months in there but that would be weird to divide it that way to me. Therefore I think I’ll just do 2 volumes. I should have about 30-32 page protectors in there for the 6 months if I do a title type page. Thoughts? Can I really cram say 60 page protectors in there safely? those albums are PL albums not the Michael’s ones. For 2020 I have 11 page protectors for Jan-June. All 12x12 pocket pages. I’m pretty sure I will fit 2020 in one album.

And 2 PL albums of what didn’t go into the memory planner because it’s small. LOL I would buy albums full price from my local papercraft store if she sold them but she doesn’t.

I fill two 12x12 albums per year. I think I scrap similarly to you... mostly pocket pages with traditional layouts sprinkled throughout. I do one pocket page spread per "week" (or close to a week, sometimes I fudge the dates a bit so vacations get their own spread, etc.) using Design A page protectors. Then I add smaller inserts with pocket pages or traditional layouts to highlight other stories as needed. My traditional spreads are typically from story kits but cover things that are timely for that month or so (not always in the week they happened so I can put pages back to back that fit the same page protector). I also create mini albums/layouts about other subjects that go into other albums, but these are my primary albums for the year. I have been doing some form of annual album since 2012, started pocket pages in 2013 and have used my current format since 2016 and I don't have any intention of modifying it anytime soon... this works for me.
I buy my albums 4 at a time. This is because I store my completed albums in a kallax in the living room and 4 fit per "cubby." Ideally all of my albums will match, but companies discontinue colors/styles or go out of business, so this way I have a guarantee that at least the cubby will match. This has happened a few times. 2015-2016 are in vanilla WRMK. Then I switched to BH white with gold hardware for 2017-2020 (two cubbies worth). She discontinued those albums so I have to switch colors for 2021/2022. I ended up going with white scrapbook.com with silver hardware and I just purchased 4 albums at the Christmas in July sale. I tend to start looking to buy the next 4 albums when I am 6 months out from needing the first one (or in the second half of the year prior... so July). I like to start looking early so I can wait for a sale, but this year there just happened to be a good one in July so I didn't need to wait. I haven't used the Michael's albums, sorry.
I store my page protectors in extra albums that are in a cubby in a kallax in my craft room. Thankfully I have a 12x12 album that had an error on the front so I got a free replacement. I wouldn't want to use it for an actual album but for storing page protectors it works fine. I also have a 9x12 and a 6x12 album that I use to store those sized page protectors. I have some extra page protectors in boxes in my closet, but that's just because I stocked up on them when BH stopped making them/when there are sales. So I have A LOT of back ups. I never want to worry about running out of basics.

Doing weekly PL, I use one 12x12 album per year. When I did PL monthly I kept ending up with 2 albums per year. (It's funny, because I thought doing it monthly would be easier, but it was the EXACT opposite. Weekly has been sooooooooo much easier and faster.)
I have a bunch of the Michael's albums and have been very happy with them. They've held up great. The binder stay attached to the spine even when well loaded and the rings stay shut (other than a really good drop on the floor when one time they did pop open.) I get mine when they were either 50% or 60%. (Not sure if they'll be doing that any more) or on a clearance sale, like they just had.
Some of my less used page protectors I have in an Iris case. The rest I put in my extra 12x12 albums.

I primarily use the Michael's albums (especially since WRMK albums are gone now). They seem to hold up just fine. I don't have my albums by year they are more by subject or event (i.e vacations, Christmas, scouts, etc). I still have a few post bound albums but I'm going to move the majority of those layouts to the 3-ring albums by Michael's which eventually I guess I'll sort loosely by year. I have a couple of post-bound albums I'm keeping - one is a Sesame Street album I used for my son't first birthday and one is the K&Co baby book with the picture on the front - I used that one for my son's baby book. I also kept the Boy Scout specific post bound albums from K&Co since they were specific to Scouts. I'm not a chronological scrapper so my albums are a mish-mash of years at this point. Someday I'll try to get them organized by year - ha!

It makes a ton of sense then, that if I have 20 12x12 page protectors in the book, with 40 full 12x12 LO that it would feel "full".

I don't take a lot of photos, divided page protectors are typically mostly full of photos, and I don't have much to document. Right now, I can probably get 1 1/2 years into an album. I just label the spine 09/2011-02/2012 or something like that.
I store blank page protectors in empty 12x12 albums. I keep the packaging from the manufacturer and put that in front of the page protectors to easily find the right configurations. They do bend a bit but it's not much of an issue when they are stacked close together in my Expedit storage. 8.5x11 protectors are kept in the box they came in (Sam's Club). I have a few that are divided and I keep them in there too.

How many binders/albums do you usually fill each year? probably 4
When do you buy them? HL 8.5x11 black 3-rings
Has anyone used the Michael’s albums how do they hold up? only in 8x8 and those are doing okay
Oh and how do you store page protectors? in a plastic Sterlite container - it has a lid but I currently just slip the lid underneath it so I have easy access - 8x8 page protectors are on the bottom with the 8.5x11 on top - all flat

I do monthly pocket pages, use Project Life 12x12 albums and mostly PL Style A page protectors. I do one album per year, and generally end up with between 30 and 40 page protectors in each album. This year for obvious reasons it will likely be closer to 30!
I have 4 more PL albums on hand, but they are getting really hard to find, and expensive, so I may pick up a few of the Scrapbook.com 12x12 3-ring albums to expand my stash. I don’t mind the mix of album colors on my shelves. But then I am using mostly rounded corner PL Core Kits (couldn’t pass up the TM pricing and I probably have enough on hand for 20 years!) so I’m not too picky. I find I can get a lot more done using the Core Kits and just embellish a lot of the cards as I use them.
I keep a few boxes of the 60-count BH PL page protectors stored flat on a shelf in my craft cupboard. I think I have enough on hand for this year and the 2019 album I’m also working on, plus the four extra albums I have, if I keep it to 40 pps or less per album.

I have the Michaels faux leather albums and they hold up just like the WRMK albums.
