I don't get why it's more republicans that dont believe in it??! though my dh is republican and he gets it. He's like...just wear a damn mask, how hard is that? but others..nope. they fight tough and nail against it. Is it because Trump in the beginning didn't do it? Some don't even think it's bad, because, it hasn't been bad in our area, or not very many people have died. isn't that a GOOD thing?!! ugh!!! The other day my lake neighbor said that on November third this would all be over. I had to respond and said, "I don't think that's how viruses work." The conversation ended when she saw that I wasn't going to go there with her. I went into town today. I went into four shops and in two of them there were people without masks. I heard one of them tell the owner of the shop that he had been in a local grocery store and Walmart without a mask and no one said anything. I left. In the other smallish meat shop I entered one other shopper was in there. His back was to me, so I didn't see until I was going to pay for my items that he wasn't wearing a mask. He left when he saw that I was standing a few feet back waiting to pay. He wasn't even buying anything. He was talking to the woman working. After he left I asked her if she has had many people come in without masks. She said he was the first, but added that he was her bil and probably thought he didn't have to since she was working. We'll always have people think they get to be the exception, I guess. Did he think that no one else would come into the shop? On the whole I am seeing people being great mask wearers and I am thankful for that. I just view the FB complainers as morons.

Why do people always say they won't live in fear and that's why they won't follow covid guidelines? Does anyone ever say "I won't live in fear, so I won't stop smoking"? "I won't live in fear so I'm not going to use my seatbelt"? "I won't live in fear so I'm going to jump into the tiger cage at the zoo"? I think think of a whole lot of people who solidly believe in not living in fear and continue right on smoking. A few people do not wear seatbelts. They don’t like them and don’t care about the law or what could happen.

I live in Texas, one of the states with the highest COVID cases. We have had mandatory mask wearing for just at a month now.
Personally, I started wearing a mask when out in public after I read that the spread of COVID would drop by an estimated 80% if everyone would wear a mask. I'm high risk, and have been being very careful. I don't want anyone to be afraid to be around me and if simply wearing a mask helps others feel safer, I'm willing to do it.
For those who say they cannot/will not wear a mask? I tune them out. I don't engage. Period.
I agree that they're not comfortable, look ridiculous and are a pain in the rear end. But, if everyone would suck it up this pandemic will be over sooner!

The issue is that if an employee confronts a non-mask wearer that person will argue and argue and that kind of non-masked talking puts the employee at risk. I work with the public, and although we haven't opened yet, we are trying to figure out the best way to handle people who refuse to mask - because we will absolutely have them. There is an argument to be made that it is actually safer for everyone for them to get their crap and get out rather than prolonging the interaction.
Some people really suck.

Unfortunately they are "winning" some places. Just heard on the way home that although WalMart is "requiring masks" they won't be enforcing it and that the employees are further instructed to serve them. Around here there have been numerous fights in WalMart between people not wearing vs wearing masks. THAT'S why them and other stores are not going to enforce it. Someone is going to get killed over it...soon

I'm in rural MN too. I'm avoiding Facebook because of all the idiotic comments. A few of my favorites just in the past 24 hours... *Children will be kidnapped left and right to be trafficked and no one will be able to identify the perpetrator because they're wearing a mask. *SEVERAL doctors (not one or two) told a woman that the mask mandate was ridiculous. Her life will be in danger because she has asthma and won't be able to breathe. *We need to have faith in Jesus, not masks. Jesus will take care of us, so we don't need to wear masks. *COVID-19 deaths are being over reported to make Trump look bad. *You have as much of a chance of being killed by a raccoon as COVID-19, so beware of those raccoons. *Schools need to open so kids can be in sports. Homeschool your kids if you're scared. And no way should students wear masks because they can't breathe. (This is a favorite. Her daughter is a nurse at Mayo and has tried over and over to reason with her. Nope. No go. Not gonna listen. She wants to SPORTS damnit!) *The idiots wearing swastika masks to Walmart are close to me. Lots of comments comparing our governor to Hitler. *There are a million other similar examples on my Facebook feed. At this point, I'm quarantining myself to avoid conversation with people who actually believe all these stupid comments more than COVID-19. Seriously. OMG!! exactly what I am seeing!! I just wanta slap them upside the head. You just can't reason with them. They have it set in their minds.

I am waiting on pins and needles for the school announcement later this week. That’s going to open an entirely new can of worms! I know!! I wonder what they will do? If they don't go back to school in MN, there are going to be a whole new set of unemployed. My dh cuts wood for the papermills. one of their top buys are the school districts....so most likely those plants will shut down, loggers shut down. along with all the other things impacted by school. BUT I know we have to be safe. It's tricky!

Someone is going to get killed over it...soon Oh, I understand that but I still think it's ridiculous. Not wearing a mask could kill people and probably already has. Not as instant but dead just the same. But "freedom" to be a douche reigns. Or maskhole in this case. It won't directly affect me as I have no plans to enter any of those places anytime soon. But people I know and love don't have that luxury. As I've said before, there is two sides to the mask controversy, pro and con. What's the worst that could happen if your (general) belief in masks is wrong? Only one side has the more dire consequences. I'd think people would want to err on the side of caution, empathy and greater good but I'm finding that to be less true these days. I know I'd find it hard to live with the fact that my selfish recklessness could have lead to someone's death.

Just seeing a few rants on FB, but I just scroll on by... In addition to the stores in the article that PLurker linked, Publix is not enforcing, either. I see several people sans mask in there every time I go and nobody saying a word. We do have a city ordinance that went into effect last Friday.

How frustrating! I hate jeans, they are the most uncomfortable piece of clothing to me. But when I go out I wear jeans! I don't go out without clothing because it feels to tight and "infringes on my rights". I am sorry you have to deal with those people. In our area people have been good about wearing masks.

Wear it or don't, but don't let it enrage you to the point of killing another human being.

The Walmart in my city had a fire last week. It was arson. The person who did it was masked. It's the mask's fault naturally.

How have you guys dealt with stuff like this?! Yes, but it's my most of the state. What has surprised me is a few of the people I know who have bought into the conspiracies. A former elementary school teacher who now works with domestic abuse victims.
required masks=required vaccines=microchips in everyone.

I started snoozing people for 30 days when they get irritating. Including people in local groups. There is a couple in one of the city groups that I just cannot handle any longer. When they pop back up in 30 days I snooze them again when they get irritating. Something about the power to do that makes it seem better. This is EXACTLY what I do!

My dad is a staunch Republican. He votes straight R. He wears a mask religiously mostly because I've put both my feet down and told him I'd take away his keys to his truck.
Our Walmart, here in SE Texas, requires masks and have a police officer at the door with them. Their employee's will call to the front and the officer will approach the person. As far as I've heard, they've had one or two no maskers argue but nothing serious.
Jennifer
ETA My husband's 86 yr old aunt didn't want to wear a mask until she watched her daughter sew one for her. Why? The masks were 5G tracking her. Where? She doesn't drive and she's always with her daughter. I have this aunt on snooze and have had her for about a year now.

I just had to unfollow my niece today because of her post on facebook about how masks are stupid, people who wear masks are stupid, etc. One of her friends tried to reason with her and she got hurt and offended. I find myself getting irate when I see people not wearing a mask or wearing it under their nose. It's getting harder and harder to stay silent while these idiots go on and on about how wearing a mask is infringing on their liberties.

I live in a red area of California. You would not believe the crap we hear. For some unknown reason those of us who trust science are rare around here. What is even more baffling are the idiotic reasons they give. The virus is fake, it is a Dem conspiracy, that will go away right after the election. Our town is partially closed right now, school is not starting, and our number are steadily climbing and these dimwits won’t wear masks. Sounds like my area. They have lost it. I got blocked from a local FB group as I guess they didn’t like the truth. I’m still in a few other local groups and they aren’t as bad but I’m just keeping my mouth shut as nothing I say will make it past their beliefs that this is all fake and will disappear as soon as Trump is re-elected. I just don’t understand how people can discount science. I am afraid what the next few months will be like. Very thankful that for the most part we can stay home even if we are tired of it.

I love the people who say Jesus will save them. Nope, when your time comes, it comes. Prayer? It makes people feel better, but it cannot cure everything or people wouldn't die. Just use common sense. If masks are wrong, what have you lost? If they are saving lives, then that is great.

I have no problem with people praying but thinking that you can be reckless but God will save you Nope.

Sorry but I’m of the thought that God gave us science and knowledge and we should use that to it’s full advantage. I have no problem with people praying but thinking that you can be reckless but God will save you Nope. Amen "sister"! I'm a Christian. My belief is that Jesus has saved us from our sins for the next life, but God has given us science and the intelligence and ability to share it, and that's the bit that saves us in this life. But I don't understand why, if that's what those people believe, they aren't looking out for those around them. It isn't only about saving MY life, it's more about those I love. And Christians are taught to love their neighbours, so their argument doesn't wash. I have breathing problems (waiting for formal diagnosis*) and I'm surrounded by co-workers who started out well but are beginning to forget to put their masks on, or wear them with their noses uncovered, or dangling off one ear, or under their chins (I'm looking at YOU, boss). I wear mine, despite the distress it causes - for their sake. I wouldn't have to use my blue inhaler half as much if I didn't wear a mask, yet I do that. I wish they would do the same. I've tried reminding them but it's got to the stage now where I would be nagging, so all I can do is back away and put my own mask back on. I'm off today at home. My brain actually stopped me at the doorway to our own study because I hadn't got a mask on. I swear I'm losing it! * ETA: I just got back from the doctor's with a formal diagnosis: asthma

What's the point anymore? Walmart won't enforce its rules on wearing masks and if you go on to read, it's many other stores. WTF is the point of having a non-rule rule. The very ones that need the rule are not going to be influenced by a "please, we request". I was seriously annoyed to read that too. It’s like conceding ground to these absolute assholes. 😒 Although, I get not wanting to put your staff in harms way, as often these people can be violent. 😐
