They will do online only until the marking system October 21 then they will assess if they want to do in person or a hybrid of online/in person. That is the city's school system but we live in a different district close by, I'm hoping my daughter's school will do that too although my daughter will be disappointed. Are your kids going back to the classroom?

I wish our district would do this, or at least the hybrid model. I don't feel it's safe yet and the schools waiting to bring full classrooms back are wise. They will observe all the guinea pigs.
My middle schooler will not be going back into the classroom and I teach in the district.

Our whole county (near Seattle) is starting 100% online. There are about 15 school districts and 150,000 students.

Ours is starting all online, as are most of the districts in the DC area.

Our school is offering the option of 100% online or 100% in person, assuming the governor doesn’t move us back a phase in which case all schools will be online only. Ds will go in person, it’s what’s best for him and we feel it’s safe enough in our area.

Ours is online. I think it was difficult to figure out logistics to keep everyone safe. It is definitely safer online, but it is hard on kids and teachers. I am beyond grateful to have retired, because this will be an extremely challenging year for all.
One of the many things that I would have been concerned about would have been the air circulating through the building, as my room had no windows.

I live in Ontario and the school plan has not been announced. The province says full time school will be available, and return in person voluntary. We start the Tuesday after Labour Day.
I just read that a huge university here (U of Toronto) is going back in person and the unions are protesting.

Our schools are opening the first week of September. In school 5 days or remote learning 5 days. The parents have the choice between the two plans. They ask that your decision not change for the first marking period which ends in November. I only have one still in the district and she will go to school in person.

The school where daughter goes was pushing in person, then a hybrid. They just sent out an email last night to take a survey, so I think this may all change. It is a private school, so not mandated by city. The city is starting online.

I'm on the other side of the coin on this one. I wish the kids were given the option to do a hybrid because there are so many at risk students who will have to survive in abusive homes or without enough to eat and special needs students who will fall through the cracks. Our kids are not going back until February at the earliest. It doesn't matter for my son, who is a senior. At that point, just let them stay home. I also think students who are young and have parents who are essential and HAVE to work outside the home, should be allowed to return.

Right now, my district in MA, has 3 options: in person, on-line, hybrid. I don't know how easily we can move between the different options. Still waiting on definitive fall plans. The only thing I do know is the tentative starting date is September 14th (typically we start the day after Labor Day). They did say if there was a spike in cases they'd start on line. They also said that on-line learning would be more robust than it was in spring.

Our province is making an announcement about schools on Wednesday. I am expecting k-7 back in person and 8-12 starting at 2 days a week to see how it goes. On-line will be available to anyone in a hybrid situation (camera on in classroom) for as long as they want it but they can return at anytime.
We’ll see what happens. I think our province wants schools to be standard this year so even if we’re at a private school we will do what the province wants. I’m think that’s easier for schools to make decisions. Our school has sent an email saying they have a plan for every stage and can move seamlessly between their plans so school can run without an issue.
A Vancouver based company developed a bracelet that buzzes or beeps if you get within 2 metres of someone. Then if someone tests positive the bracelet acts as a tracer and keeps record of who you’ve been close to so those people know they’ve been exposed. It helps kids stay apart from each other. My sister’s school in LA was set to use these bracelets until they got mandated to be online. Dh thinks our school should use them.

DS15 is in public school. The district is offering 100% virtual in their existing online program or a hybrid, but the hybrid is only 1 day in school for high schoolers (2 days for K-8). DS attends a central school for 5 of his 7 classes & those will all be virtual. So even though we picked hybrid he'll be pretty much virtual. HS will do 3-4 classes per quarter & I assume the district will reevaluate things before 2nd semester in January. District-wide, you are locked into your decision for the entire semester (although hybrid would transition to it's own 100% virtual is deemed necessary). The governor is pushing a state law that districts go at least 50% in person (announced after the district announced their plan and started registration...so we'll see if that changes things...)
Ds12 is in a small private school & they are going back like normal, but they have the ability to close up & switch to virtual at the drop of a hat if needed like they did last spring.

Just got an e-mail saying they are starting the school year August 31 and it sounds like they are still planning on in person. It says they will announce their plan August 3 so we will see if things change. I live in Michigan by the way.

Our city and county school systems are starting back as normal with precautions but only pushed back the start date 2 weeks. They were originally starting the first week of August but now starting the 3rd week. They are giving an online only option for those that are not wanting to send their kids back though.
My DS15 will be starting back in person and it's been a very difficult and heart wrenching decision for us both.
The districts were I work (much larger town an hour away) are starting back online only for the first 9 week period then they'll reassess. I know my coworkers are really scrambling to figure out child care and how they are going to find the time to do distance learning since mostly everyone except office personnel are required to be at work.
It's a tough situation no matter what the options are.

I'm fighting for our district to do this. Right now we have a hybrid start. In two weeks, teachers report and our district hasn't answered about 90% of the safety and logistical questions we had, let alone the instructional ones.
Until they can answer those questions or until there are no new cases in our county for 14 days, we should not be going back in person. Period. Cases among young people are currently rising significantly in our county.

We are in a different district as well (north), but I work in GR and have friends who teach in GR. It's interesting that when they did the survey in June, 71% of those polled wanted online right away. Now it's more like 50/50. It will be interesting to see how they do it.
Our district is still finalizing plans this week and presenting to the school board on August 10. We are scheduled to start August 25.

Our District started out delaying a week, so we go back 8/17. On Saturday the Board voted to go to a hybrid model with a staggered start the first week(20% each day). Two days in the building 3 days remote learning. Fridays are cleaning days, remote for everyone. We also have the option of 100% e-learning which is different from remote learning. The hybrid sets us up to move to 100% remote learning if (when) the need arrises. There are some very vocal folks in my area who are actually stagging a demonstration at the main building to object to not having 100% in school. They want 100% in school no matter what. Our cases are rising. Around our District most of the other districts are starting at 100% e-learning and evaluating cases in 2 weeks or a specified day.

Ours is online through September 4. Then will reassess. Just trying to take it day by day and go in with a positive attitude. I’m thinking they won’t be back till October but with how my state doesn’t like to wear masks might be awhile 😬

Online for the first month because they are getting the school buildings ready for hybrid to meet the needs of some families who need additional supports. Trying to keep as many home as possible so that the in person is small. All furniture being moved out of the classrooms except desks. Kids eating in class. Building has lots of entrances/exits, so kids will be spaced out going in. Our city has very few cases, although teachers live all over.

No idea what ours is doing. Nothing definite has been said other then the first 2 weeks will be online. I work in one school district and live in another ( well, I live in one and am 3 blocks away from yet another major school district) and I don’t think any of them have said anything definite yet. My job is trying to decide what we are going to do as well. We can rent a space for the year since we are likely losing our room or won’t be able to access it if the school district where I work goes fully online, but I think they are waiting to see what the school district is going to do before deciding. So stressful not knowing.

My kids are all adults but I heard from an employee of the private school they attended that they are offering a choice of online and in person classes. This small school (formerly 200 students K-12) now has a waiting list of over 300 new students who want to attend. This blows my mind! I guess they want their kids in class and figure it is a small school with smaller class sizes. The school unfortunately does not have the capacity to accept many new students. I think they said the building capacity is 450 including faculty and staff--and that was pre-pandemic! Our local public school system has not officially announced what they are doing but released a plan that said as long as the governor keeps us at our current level the kids would have a hybrid system (2 day in person and 3 day online). If he opens up more they would be totally in person and if he closes down more they would be totally online.

Each private school here (Dubai) has to submit their plan and have it approved. Schools are still waiting for approval but they submitted a 2 day in person, 2 day Distance learning rotation. So half of the students would be in person at a time. For 1st grade, they will have 11 students per class on the same rotation. Then for art, music, etc, the teacher would come to the classroom so they wouldn't be going to other rooms. Masks are required. For 1st grade, they eat in the classroom and not in the cafeteria anyway. They will also have some type of staggered start and finish with temperature checks on the way in. Buses aren't a problem because they usually have lots of open seats during normal times. I'm a bit nervous of course, but we'll see.

I'm in MI too (though not near GR, I'm way down south), not sure what our latest survey (closing today) is showing but anecdotally (from FB) it appears to be about 50/50 online/in person. I was in the school office yesterday to work and speculation is that the governor is going to take us back to phase 3 today which makes all this moot as everything will have to be online I really hope not, some kids really need in person for various reasons plus schools have been busting ass to get a plan ready to submit by the 10th.
