I’ve had some crappy luck getting albums lately. Not only are they quite scarce, but I will now be the reluctant owner of (at least) 5 damaged 12x12 albums.
Ordered 2 from BH on NSBD and one was busted. Buckling on the spine, like it was dropped, visible from the outside. And the corresponding interior seam was torn open. They offered replacement or refund. I took the refund.
Ordered 4 WRMK albums online and the whole lot was damaged. One has stitches coming out in multiple spots on the cover. Two have bent & dented metal corners (on one the metal corner fell right off). On another the cover is terribly warped, as if there was a brick sitting on top of it. The company is replacing them, does not want them returned.
I have actual immediate need for four albums right now, and will have two as spares. What do I do with the five damaged ones?
Nobody I know in real life scrapbooks. They are so pricey to ship anywhere, I can’t imagine someone being willing to pay for damaged product. I hate waste. Any ideas?

I use an old album to store extra page protectors. I have also seen people use them for storing stamps or creating a reference book with ink swatches and stamp images. You could always post on Facebook marketplace for free 🤷🏻♀️ Someone might have a use for them instead of trashing them.

Offer them to a senior center or a school as a donation?

Maybe cover them with fabric?

I store page protectors in three of mine. I also use a few for inventory of some supplies.

I use a damaged album to store my stencils. Not that I have enough stencils for 5 albums.

Storing page protectors in one is an excellent idea! That would be helpful even.
I’ll try FB marketplace. It’s been dead there lately, but free usually grabs some attention. All of our regular donation sites are closed, and our schools will remain remote until at least January. 🥺

I store page protectors in three of mine. I also use a few for inventory of some supplies. I do the same with a couple of albums that are damaged or a color I'm not wild about using. I have two that I store page protectors in. One has pocket scrapbooking page protectors & the other regular page protectors. I have a third that I have page protectors in with white cardstock in each & I've put some sorted photos in the protectors. I write the event/date on the cardstock then I can pull from that album if I need some pics to scrap. I'll usually tack the photos to the cardstock with just a bit of removable adhesive.

I make base pages-- basically, premade 'general' layout backgrounds that I can use for photos later. (or I make them when I feel like scrapbooking but I don't have any photos in mind.)
When I make the base pages, I put them into page protectors in a crappy album, so I can flip thru the album to look at layout backgrounds when I get photos printed. I slip any sketches, embellishments, scraps, etc. into the page protectors with the base page layout, so when I go to make the actual pages, I have all the extra papers, etc. already with them.
I also keep my larger page templates (Lea France scrapbooking template / stencils, 12x12 sized stencils, etc.) in a crappy 12x12 album.
I also like the 'donate to a senior center or school' idea, if you really don't want / need to keep that many damaged albums.

Like others, I store page protectors in a damaged album. I also use a damaged album as my work-along book for projects like December Daily instead of constantly manipulating the final album the project will be stored in. It's a great way not to worry about mixed media messes, scuffs or other messes.

I’d been housing 2019 & ‘20 in the same album as I worked on them simultaneously until I ran out of room. Then transferred all the 2019 into the new (non damaged) BH album... cursing under my breath the whole time. 😅

I make page kits, especially for project/theme albums, and store stickers or die cut sets.
I don’t have any 12x12 damaged, but several of the BH 6x8s were damaged or haven’t held up. Luckily I bought them all on clearance to archive A5 planner pages.
