I had some photos printed at Walgreens and since they were ones from my phone I chose whatever the odd size is rather then 4x6 (which I would have chosen if they had been from my dslr). In any event all of the pictures have an about 1 inch white edge on them. Is that normal for that size? I usually only order pics from my DSLR so they are true 4x6 or I have edited my phone photos to fit. This time I was in a hurry and just wanted a bunch of photos and no hassle.
I don’t want to ask them to be reprinted if this is just what they do, but I am not excited about trimming over 100 photos!

I've never ordered prints from them from my phone, only from my laptop. But they're always standard 4x6 with no border. Hope you figure it out.

Well, the paper is 4x6 but I ordered the prints to be 4x5.3 or what ever the odd size is so I didn’t have to crop each one. So each photo has a .7 inch white stripe I will have to cut off to use the photos.

What a waste of time and money. So frustrating!

I regularly use walgreens to print my photos, and there is never a border around the edge. I've gotten all sizes 4x6, 5x7, 4x4., 8x10, etc... no border.
I would take your photos back and ask for a reprint.

That is super annoying. They usually have an option to switch from the weird size to 4x6, no cropping needed. I would request they be reprinted.

Since they were taken on my phone I would have had to check each photo to see how it was going to be cropped if I chose 4x6 though. Since I chose the 4 x5.3 they should have printed exactly as I took them. Do all non DSLR digital cameras take the 4x 5.3 does anyone know? I think that is the size I had printed for school and they came cut since we just had a simple digital camera at school.

There’s a box when editing each photo that says something about maintain ratio. If you select that you’ll get a white border. At least that’s my experience when I’m printing an image saved from Instagram. To keep it square the image is printed smaller - like 3.5” square and has the white border. Otherwise it blobs the image out in weird proportions.

Otherwise it blobs the image out in weird proportions. That is why I chose the odd size so it didn’t get blobbed. I am positive when I get pictures for school they are the smaller size without the white edge. It isn’t a border, they just printed the photos on a 4x6 sheet instead of a 4x5.3 sheet. So there is a band that measures .7 inches that is just white on the end of each photo. I think I will just take them back today to see if that is normal. If it were a smaller order I wouldn’t mind, but I don’t want to trim over 100 photos! I would have just chosen the crop on all of them and had them fitted to a 4x6 sheet if that is what they do. Our Walgreens people are just so rude, I hate going in there but they are the only ones who do a good job color wise. Our other Walgreens locations photos are always dark.

What do you mean by non-DSRL? There are DSLR, mirrorless (on the rise), bridge and compact cameras. Compact cameras - especially older - are known for the 4x5.3 format due to the 3:4 aspect ratio. The ratio (3:2 vs 3:4) is determined by the sensor. The 3:4 ratio sensors are commonly found in smartphones and compact cameras. 3:2 isn't exclusive to DSLR, however. Most of the currently produced DSLR, mirrorless and even point and shoot cameras come with the 3:2 sensor.

In the past, I've had to pick "true digital" for size which prints it to the 4x5.3 size so as to not stretch or distort my image to fit a 4x6 canvas.

What ever doesn't produce true 4x6 like a DSLR and what ever was cheap when our school bought a camera since we aren't allowed to take photos with our phone. And whatever has a lag time of about 5 minutes between pushing the shutter and taking the picture! Ha.

Didn't they also use a bird to sew and play records?
