blemon No new album from Echo Park/Carta Bella this year, I believe. They do small spine anyway. The only wide spine 6x8 options for Christmas 2020 I know of are the ones you mentioned. It could be that Dutch Scrapdelight comes out with a special holiday album since they make their own under the DLS brand but I haven't heard anything about it and the DLS album stock appears very low on their website. Scrapbook.com's albums are yet to be released but I think their 6x8 will not be wide spine.

blemon I'm so on the fence about an album this year. I can't even seem to settle on a size. I am on scrapbook.com this morning and I think I really am going to pass on CP's Hey Santa. I just don't love the enough of it to buy it. I'm sick of the swans and the cars with trees on top. I think I like the Simple Stories Winter Cottage better when I compare them side by side. I'm a little shook. I always buy some CP for DD. I hope future me isn't upset when it sells out.

I am thinking about the candy apple 4x8 album......Kinda worried its going to be 'in your face' red though. Decisions, decisions. Mom, I have ordered the candy apple album and I *think* it is being delivered on Tuesday, I'll let you know how bright it is Thank you!

lasteve1 I do hybrid for all my projects but have never jumped into doing a full photo book but I'm so tempted. I just haven't found the right project. One year when I was really struggling to finish my DD (long after Christmas had passed), I did my 6x8 pages in Photoshop using pocket style templets from Paisley Press & BH, printed them out, added a tiny bit of embellishing with a puffy sticker, chipboard, tag, or whatever, and then just slipped them in full size 6x8 page protectors. It was what finally made me complete the project and was loads faster than doing it the more traditional way. Since then, I've done a combo of pockets and full 6x8 pages. I love the idea of leaving space in Blub book. I'd love to see photos if you go this route. I am the same with mostly hybrid, but I have done a couple of full photo books. I just love the way they look at the end and they take up less space on the shelf. I could never switch to doing exclusively photo books but they are a fun change once in awhile. I am just nervous about doing it for DD because that's typically my craftiest project. I think my concern with doing hybrid in a blurb book is that you can't have anything dimensional at all or the book won't close. So it would be very thin stickers or writing with pen/stamps. The concern with pen & stamps is that I would mess up! I do have some of the adhesive backed gold foil that works with the silhouette so I think I would probably use that to cut out a bunch of various stickers and then add that to pages where I want the gold shimmer (which you can never get right with purely digital). Also maybe some of AE's clear word phrase stickers would work well. To anyone considering the photo book route: it's really fun, easy and quick even if you fuss over custom template changes like I do. I do my travel documenting exclusively this way. The only issue I have with Blurb is colour rendition with some of the cheaper photo papers. My advice would be to download both BookSmart and BookWright although Blurb pushes you to use BookWright. BookSmart is their earlier software and it is a little more user-friendly for beginners. Also, just wait before you print. They often have offers and even, occasionally, 30 to 40% off with free shipping both in the US and internationally. This will be your best deal. You just need to back up your book file and sit on the print order for a while. There are extra templates offered for free from Blurb here. You do have to follow the instructions to use them in a particular book but they're great for extra variation without having to fuss over measurements or getting the layout right to add in a recipe (super fun for DD albums). Wordier folks may want to consider a Blurb magazine. More time-consuming to make but the finished result is just wonderful. I think I've always gone with the middle quality paper? I can't remember now. I did print out some of AE's class handouts in a trade book with the low quality paper and I wish I had gone with a better paper, but for those it's not as big of a deal so I'm happy I learned. One thing I hate is that the trade books/photo books/lay flat photo books have different options for paper/covers but they also have different sizes. I wish they had all of the sizes available with all the paper/cover options. For the AE trade book I just combined all the PDFs into one large PDF and then did the PDF upload option to avoid their software entirely. It resized it perfectly so nothing got cut off even though the books are 8x10 and the handouts are originally 8 1/2 x 11. I've never used the blurb templates, even when I created photo books. I always just use the template that has a full page photo with zero border. Then I create a canvas in PSE that's the same size as the page and put guidelines to mark where the potential bleed would be. Then I just use that to create my pages. When I did WITL that way I created a few basic templates that I used over and over so I would probably do a similar with DD, but I would imagine my most common page layout would be full page photo paired with a white page with centered text starting halfway down the page or so and the number at the top. The numbers would probably be where I play around with hybrid. I have never tried the blurb magazines, but maybe I will branch out to that at some point. If I do DD as a blurb book this year I will likely go with the 7x7 size like I did for WITL.

No wow factor for me at all, compared to previous years.

I am not excited about any of the AE DD sneaks so far. Seriously considering buying a few more Pink Paislee You are my Fave elements and kits and printing some supplies at home to supplement what I already have.

You guys, I think you'll get this. I looked through my 2019 DD yesterday and it just made me sad. So many of the things we do in December (going to see the Nutcracker and other holiday shows, the Christmas parade, getting together with friends) probably won't be possible this year.
I'm happy to include one screenshot of a holiday show that we watch online but that's it.
I'm considering doing 3X8 because I'll have fewer photos and not much ephemera (like ticket stubs and programs).
I was so happy when Ali shared that photo of the 2 because it meant I got to focus on something that makes me so happy.
But ugh. Bittersweet. I can't imagine not getting to spend Thanksgiving or Christmas with my family.

This year is going to be a change for sure. I’m switching up with a different book. I’m hoping that will have me excited about photographing what small things we will still do as a family. I’m anticipating drive through Christmas lights, baking, holiday movies, and tree decorating. Sooo...four days planned, only 21 left to figure out!

Good point, blemon. Without the Nutcracker and other holiday shows/events, there will be a lot less to add to a 6X8 album. I’m considering a 3X8, as well. I’m looking forward to seeing Ali’s album choices!

There are for sure going to be some differences this year. I'm kicking around the idea of doing my own album again this year. One of my favorite years was the year that I used my bind-it-all and made by own, one photo per page and embellishments. I find with the divided page protectors I feel I need to add more photos than just one, which feels like more pressure. Thankfully I still have lots of time to decide.

I like the CT kit. Probably because some of those papers are eerily similar to OA designs.

I like the CT kit this year, the color combo is delicious and bright. I am going to use last year’s CD kit and also preordered this year so have to pass on it. I am glad companies do preorders early this year.

One page idea I like to include is to spend a day thinking about past Christmas's. Every year I include a story from when I was growing up that I wouldn't have documented otherwise. Some years I do my childhood, some years DH will jolt down a story from his. Last year DH wrote down about what his 'normal' Christmas looked like (going to his Grandmas, the kind of food they'd eat). Another year he wrote down about asking Santa for a particular truck and he didn't get it. But he did get a fishing pole and how that was when her started fishing and he still fishes now). Its a good way to have a 'filler' for those days that you don't have anything else. And neither of us have photos from our childhood, so its just journaling and maybe an embellishment.

I was scrolling through my Feedly reader this morning and spotted one signposting a new Friends theme Advent Calendar at Amazon. I have young friends who are crazy for Friends and so followed the link. There I found one of the page shots to be a page of Friends calendar numbers 1 - 24 which might be a useful screenshot for anyone looking for a cute DD page... (sorry can't upload because of the file size - have a look here www.housebeautiful.com/shopping/a33605762/friends-advent-calendar/ )

I can't find the post to figure out who to blame/thank but I just hit the preorder button on my first Cocoa Daisy Xmas kit. (Ugh, the price... I am supporting small business... think of the economy... ) I have been coveting all the CD since Simone/Seemownay first showed up in my feed here or somewhere, and then more after Julie O shared her love of it, but I've never been able to justify the cost or the risk of getting hooked into their scarcity scheme (reminds me a bit too much of classic SC). Oh well, I've done it now. I hope I love it. I'm sure I will, as long as the price is hidden when it arrives. Merry Christmas to me!
