While we were waiting for the Stonehenge solstice livestream I spotted that there had been a sunset one streamed 13 hours earlier so I had that on in the background while we watched the end of The Sound of Music and the news. Then when it was finally time it wasn't looking too promising and the warm bed was calling, so we ditched. This morning I got up early enough to see our sunrise - haha, that's like 7:56am and our weather was even worse than England's. All the rain today, no sign of Sol. So I'm glad I have an alternative plan for documenting the event. I think I'll contrast this picture on the left page http://instagram.com/p/CI_yq5jA0pc with this one on the right http://instagram.com/p/CJEWiMsAfKA I took them over the weekend so, close enough, and the mood is right. Also the countdown candle is the best thing - when it's Christmas it will be gone. We were shocked how small it got all of a sudden, and it's a no waste tradition, which is rather nice. I'd prefer beeswax for next year, but I love the idea of it.

Having trouble w/Dec 14 Votes certifed AND First US covid vaccine AND Kids did a special dinner night for us Lots to fit into one day. Maybe "Out w/the old, in w/the new"-ish theme? The cover of the times had Covid right next to joe Biden. Here’s my page. Two out of 3 ain’t bad. http://instagram.com/p/CI6M8M5AHlw

I haven't been able to find them anywhere as an adult - do you mind me asking where you got yours?! It's awesome! Thank you! I found mine at a local shop (but I had it shipped) www.nordiskashop.com/shop-categories (I think they are sold out now) but I also saw them in the Signals catalog (but didn't want to get on their mailing list!) They are mostly imported from Denmark, and in a normal year I would've probably bought from an Etsy shop even if it was in the UK. I wanted a thicker pillar version like I saw on Diane in Denmark's channel on YT, but I couldn't find one this year. The thin taper was perfect though - about 30 mins to burn per day. It's a totally new tradition for me.

Or I might do a "meanwhile" page with current events. That's a great idea. Does that fit in with the idea of the dinner? It was celebrating some old (baddish) news and the entry of good news. Are you doing a single page per day strictly? I'm going to make it a fold out. You helped me decide that. THANK YOU.

I AM OFF WOOOOORK! I AM ON CHRISTMAS BREAAAAK!
It's been a ride these past few days. My SO who's been working a solid 95% from home since March became a coronavirus contact case after the one meeting he had to attend in person. One freakin' meeting is all it took. He went in wearing a FFP2/N95 mask so I knew that as long as the virus didn't get in through the eyes, it could turn out ok. Negative so far, yay! No symptoms either. Still being super duper careful. Hopefully the second test comes back negative as well and "normal" life can resume.
Brexit remains a total mess. We can't even send parcels to the UK anymore because the postal services don't know how things will be handled on January 1st. That's how fucked up the situation is. On top of that, the feared coronavirus mutation that is booming in England at the moment means most of Europe have cut off liaisons with the UK, including freight transport. It looks like UK supermarkets will already be out of cauliflower, lemons and whatnot in the next few days. I hope our British DD Peas are well! Thinking of you all.
I have, however, kept up with my nightly Christmas romance schedule. For anyone interested in my ~very expert~ opinions:
1. Dashing in December (Paramount Network) | Beautiful Colorado scenery, overall nice story. This clearly had a bigger budget than Hallmark and Lifetime movies but suffered from some issues that made it feel a little rushed at times, not very flowy. I wanted to love this but I only ended up liking it. Wish they'd done a better job with either the script or editing to build a better budding relationship between both characters. Peter Porte felt too closed off whereas Juan Pablo di Pace tried so hard to instill some passion and sensuality. The final denouement was very rushed, too, alas. A recommended watch but it's inferior to Lifetime's Christmas Setup despite all the pretty views and horses.
2. Cross Country Christmas (Hallmark) | Hallmark saved this one for last and I can see why: both leads held their own in this one and the storyline made it a fun, energetic flick. Different places, different transportation modes, different people to meet and learn about. While the pace was a little uneven, I really enjoyed this. I liked the growth of the attachment between the romantic interests and their interaction. Definitely one worth sitting through!
3. Christmas by Starlight (Hallmark) | A pleasant surprise! This one simply worked. Good back-and-forth between the leads, your typical rich-boy-gets-handed-the-company story where it's all about finding depth of character and overcoming one's assumptions. A solid mix of funny and cute.
4. So many movies I didn't finish despite trying my darned bestest. I think I'm up to FOUR attempts for Christmas in Vienna at this stage. I'll try one more time... I'm so frustrated when pretty locations are wasted on clunky stories. I also wanted to love Love, Lights, Hanukkah! because the story was interesting (woman discovers she's Jewish and learns about her heritage through Hanukkah) and Ben Savage from Boy Meets World but oh my, baby, no. I'm dreading trying to go back and finish this one.
In other Hallmark news, they rebranded their winter season as New Year New Movies! Here are some of the first previews of what's coming beginning January 2nd (athletic injury galore):

I was just reminded of the recording of David Sedaris reading his Santaland Diaries essay. He has a dry sense of humor. And, warning, there's language in it that's thankfully no longer acceptable, but it was written in the early 90s. If you're not familiar with it, get yourself a cup of cocoa and sit back and enjoy!

I haven't listened to his reading of the Santaland diaries in a few years but I just put it on again and ugh, hasn't aged one bit. He recorded it first for This American Life where you might know it from. For anyone unfamiliar, this is an essay about Sedaris's time as an elf at Macy's Santaland. It's hilarious (and dark-ish). Thanks so much for the reminder, msliz !

To my fellow celebrating DD-ers, HAPPY FESTIVUS! RIP Jerry Stiller. Of course, shitty 2020 took you. We're cooking "No soup for you!" soup and bought some "Festivus yes! Bagels no!" bagels for dinner tonight. We will be watching The Strike, as one does. And do a proper airing of grievances. And I think the feat of strength will be about who gets the last chocolate truffle at the rate we've been eating these... Prepare for mayhem! Hope everyone who celebrates has a wonderful, Grinchy and bagel-y day.

sleepingbooty hope your SO is ok! I am working all thru the holidays, I generally always do, and this year it's actually easier working from home. So besides NYE, no time off for me. Gotta love that my HR scheduled seven, 7!, interviews I have to partake in Monday morning, the 28th, from 8:30am to 11:30am. I'm like after a holiday weekend?! this is what I get to do? ha. Merry Christmas to me. Anyhoo.... I have put the DD aside for now, there's just too many photos to be printed and I don't want to print them all. So I am editing and putting them in a folder, adding nice digi stamps from IACB and will get them all printed in the next 2 weeks or so. I have been keeping up with the Storyline chapters book, need to still put all of last week together, did a bunch of fussy cutting of IACB printables last night. It's a quiet Christmas here, I am doing a bunch of food prep today and tomorrow, so we will be good for next few days. Looking forward to relaxing and watching some movies! At this point I actually look forward to January...it's when I sign out of all social media for a few weeks and just get back to my ongoing list of scrapping projects. Looking forward to the deep dive inward and lots of hibernating. Wishing all of you Peas out there a happy holidays! I know it's been a tough year for many, and just hoping everyone is doing ok.

I watched Last Christmas yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. I'd watch again! In keeping with a minimal Christmas we have decided the oldest two children are getting cash in their stockings. My youngest? A few more rubber ducks from Dollar Tree. He has his set things he likes and we have plenty. He saw Santa at school this week. His teacher sent a photo. The expression on his face was you people are ridiculous. I'm only sitting here because you said too.

How is everyone's DD going?
This is my 1st year doing DD. I will repeat next December-since I will have plenty of product left over! I'm interested in hearing what is going well, and what is not working on your DD.
-keeping organized via a small notebook and a homemade calendar. I've been taking notes, and sketching out ideas for pages-some work, others don't. -foundation pages-I made at least 10 foundation pages. I think I have used 5. Some days just morphed into their own design. I will save any left for next year. It was fun making them. -Numbers designed-I won't do this again. It was fun making them, but then most didn't jibe with what page I had created. Something like the white felt numbers from AE would be a good fit. -picture taking-going fairly well, I've kept organized what size I want to order. Using some post it notes on pages created or on the page protector on what picture goes where. -Items that I would like to have: a Tiny Attacher; 1-2 good alpha and number stamps, maybe 2 sizes. Some holiday string/ribbon.
What's working for you, and what is not?

Yay to being finally off work for the break sleepingbooty. Also sending non-covid vibes northward for your SO. I hear there's a second new variation identified in the UK now as well.... it sounds a right mess, and Brexit across it all.... hang in there British peas! 💕

I've prepped a few foundation pages this year, and identified several stories I wanted to tell as I have often gotten stuck as there's always a run of "I'm at work and I'm so freaking tired and I just want to get to my days off" days. I've actually gotten more ideas than days this year!! 🤣 I'll likely throw in some bonus stories as a result. I've completed up to day 3 in the album, will likely do a whole heap more in the days between Christmas and New Year. I'd like to think I'll be done by the NY, but if not, I have a creative weekend with friends in early Jan so it will be finished then. (I'm eternally grateful to be in NZ where we are currently at level 1 and relatively normal life continues. We get cases picked up at the border daily but as they are managed in compulsory isolation on arrival, touch wood, we're keeping community transmission at bay.)

I’m in day 20!!! I’m working from home and do it between meetings and stuff. My biggest game changer has been writing stories in the notes app while I’m super tired and laying on the couch at night. I also am doing letters and I like it a lot because you can write a letter to basically anything. Also my days are boring and repetitive so this helps change it up.
I loved the TN I was doing but it was hard to fill towards the end and really kind of exploded. I lost my mojo when I switched to the citrus twist album. I like having the small continuous page in the TN and don’t love the gap of the album. My mojo is slowly coming back and I too have more stories than days left.
I’m also really over December daily and ready for it to end. I now know why I can never successfully finish it. I really get burnt out from doing the same format over and over and over. I really want to do a 12x12 layout. To break it up I have been setting up my bujo for January and that helps me feel motivated again.
My stretch goal is to finish up this weekend so that I can do project life next week and catch up with that. I think I have 2 months to do. It seems like a manageable goal. I really want to pack away my December daily supplies so that I can get a little more free space in my craft room.
Also finally, my kids are doing a DD. It’s so cute. It’s just 4x4 pages on binder rings. They are on day 20. I’m going to try to get theirs done this weekend too. I slacked on some of the activities and we have to make them up. Like tonight we are supposed to roast marshmallows in the fireplace but my daughter has swim so I don’t know if we will get it done. I could have planned better. 🤣 doesn’t matter. They are having fun and look forward to doing something each day.

First day of my summer break - yay! Work has been crazy since about mid October and no let up this month so I'm so happy to have 3 weeks off. Thought I might be able to finish at lunchtime yesterday but no such luck after last minute service on us of various appeals which will have to be dealt with in the new year. Finally able to shut down my laptop at 4.30pm! I'm looking forward to celebrating Christmas Day with friends tomorrow. As scrappydo said, very grateful to be in NZ at this time. My brother and his family are in Watford and have just gone into tier 4 restrictions. They live in a small house so the lockdowns have been challenging. At least when NZ was in its lockdown earlier in the year I had a large garden to escape into!

I even gambled on getting my berries yesterday just so I didn't have to venture to the stores today! I was scheduled to have my last day in the office on Tuesday and then have my 3 weeks off... by Monday arvo, I was so exhausted I simply couldn't face coming back for the last day. Partly because I'd just supervised an entire desk move in the office which included hauling the smaller furniture myself. The last manager in the office agreed I was looking pretty out on my feet so gifted me the day at home on Tuesday. Slept till noon, then got some last minute chores done. Felt a million percent better yesterday... and ready to face the hoards in the supermarket! 🤣

I'm also finished with work for the year and woke up to rain this morning, so other than venturing out later today for some last minute groceries, I'm going to spend the day working on my album. This is my 13th year doing this project so I feel I have a pretty good system for making it work, I always complete my album by the first week of Jan at the latest. I tried pre-making my pages the first year and found it just doesn't fit well with the way I create, so I now start with an empty album, a pile of page protectors, and a homemade kit of supplies to work from. I journal every day (usually just in a word document), even if it's just some notes about what I did to help jog my memory later. I also print at home which is key for me to getting this project done in close to real time.

Just popping in to say Hi!
I love hearing what you all are up to. Sad this is coming to an end...
Somehow I've been keeping up. I think by mostly keeping it simple.
Not buying much didn't help me this year and I know that is going to sound crazy. I have a LOT of stuff but it doesn't go together. I am mostly out of normal size alphabets. I have plenty of Thickers but they take up a lot of room. I have some very tiny stickers but if I'm going to need something that small I typically print it out. I think I need something in the 1/2" or less range. I'm hoping felicity jane has an after xmas sale as I know they had a lot in stock last time I looked.
I feel like when you get a kit you get those. I miss October Afternoon something fierce this time of year. Their kits were the best.

I gave myself permission to take a Christmas holiday for a couple of weeks, to putter around the house and not feel like I'm supposed to be doing anything in particular. I set time aside to watch Home For Christmas, one episode per day until Christmas, and I'm spending the late afternoon working on my Christmas album and listening to Hallmark nonsense.
I'm making progress! What didn't work: trying to create a crafty album. I was just not feeling that. I started a TN and worked on it for a day, then decided to do a digital blurb album similar to Shannan Manton's and I haven't thought about the TN since then. Haven't touched it. I might still paste a bunch of ephemera into it, maybe, but I took the supplies I had bought and started making cards from them instead. Such a relief.
What's working: a 10x8 digital canvas divided in half for a 5x8 trade book. Deciding that it can be thick so I don't have to ration pages. Trying to keep it to one photo per page wherever possible. My default format is a photo on one side and some word art and words on the other. It's really simple but I have space to include fun "filler" pages (IACB design, usually) if I want to. Sometimes I still feel the need to write all the words, but mostly I'm enjoying not journaling so much.
I have flagged a bunch of photos from Xmas last year and I think I will include those to make it a 2 year album.
I'm realizing that I don't care to do a lot of designing and "scrapping" and big/wide pages make me feel like I need to add too much, which paralyzes me. Having a really simple format is so freeing! I've always enjoyed the photos and the memories most of all.
(Part of me wants to go back and re-make my pandemic notebooks as trade books. (face palm) I probably won't but... maybe will 😬)

I like the Simple Stories alpha stickers for "right sized" titles - about the size you're talking about, I think. I always found Thickers much too big. The old Kelly Purkey alphas in black and white were my favorite (from 2014 or so??) and I'm still using those although running out of letters now. For colorful stuff the SS have worked really well for me. They have changed them a few times - half of mine were thicker and easy to handle, the other half were more papery. Now they come in tablets with a couple of sizes.

I'm sad it's coming to an end too, but I've decided not to be too hard on myself for what I didn't accomplish with DD this year. I've been working ridiculous hours, and was supposed to have vacation this week but that ended up being only one day before getting called in. That's been my whole year.
Thinking about my album today and whether I have 'enough' to even do one. And you know what? I do if I accept that, like 2020, it will be very imperfect and have more lows than highs and more misses than hits and that's OK.
Going to take the few photos I have and make most of them B&W and work on something simple and do-able when I get around to it.
DS wrote me a 400 word essay (!!!) today about his favorite Christmas memories and why he loves Christmas. He included the joke we've been telling all month - this year it isn't December Daily, it's more like December Bi-weekly. LOL DB2020, here we come!

My Facebook ban is two weeks strong. Shutting out social media and focusing on myself and my family has been great for my mental health. It’s like quitting smoking, once you go so far you just want to keep on going. We went to an underground light show in Kentucky tonight. The kids loved it!! I’m trucking along on my album, it’s looking more like an art journal than anything and I’m ok with that! I’m feeling a lot better about this holiday than I did on December first. <3

Well 2020 literally stinks at my house. There's been an issue with the town's sewer system. A couple of other things today too that were just not great.
One year ago, I did something personal for me. I wanted to do something small to remember the occasion. Even that did not go well. Damn you Arctic Circle!
Sorry to be a downer on this thread, but I'm officially out of ways to deal with everything right now. Maybe a few months from now I'll do a page about the shitter being full or a lyric from the Grinch song about stink, stank, stunk.
I'm going to make an effort to stay quiet, make the food, watch the movies, and be extremely relieved when school and work begins in January.

I’m really enjoying the interactive elements and creating different types of pages. With that said, I’m only up to day 12. I’m torn with how far I want this to go. Shimelle ends the class on the Epiphany. I do not have enough pages for that. I think I can get through the 25th. After that, I either need to split the spine and add in more pages or create another book. So, I’m waiting until after Christmas to do anymore. On another note, I’m an auntie again! My friends had their baby girl yesterday. I hope to be able to see her when they get home. She will be in my JYC for sure!

I like the Simple Stories alpha stickers Thanks for the reminder. What does SS have against lowercase letters?

I’m torn with how far I want this to go. Shimelle ends the class on the Epiphany. I do not have enough pages for that. I think I can get through the 25th. After that, I either need to split the spine and add in more pages or create another book. So, I’m waiting until after Christmas to do anymore. You could maybe go to the 25th and then add one more page for the things after Christmas. That's what I've done in years where I've run out of room. I usually like to add something small to mark New Year's at least. Glad the babe arrived safe and sound.

I like the Simple Stories alpha stickers Thanks for the reminder. What does SS have against lowercase letters? I guess they complicate things with ascenders and descenders, and when you make a sticker sheet you'd theoretically want a much higher proportion of lowercase to upper case, so then how do you divvy the space up so it's not completely frustrating...? I don't mind all caps. I'd rather have all caps than to run out of lowercase Ns but have a bunch of upper case ones sitting there taunting me... (I recently ran out of Ns in my fav alpha. I must have done a lot of WINNING titles or something ;P )

Wishing you both well. Hope your SO continues to be well. Stuck on day 10 for DD, but I'll get more done next week - can't wait! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all the peas. xo.
