Went to donate plasma for the first time today. Should have hydrated more. I was almost done and started to feel dizzy. They had like three nurses hovering over me checking my blood pressure and giving me a couple bags of saline. Waiting now to get cleared so I can go home. But I do get 200.00 for donating Covid plasma! Next time I will know better...

You did well!
Lots of people get dizzy.
Take good care of yourself now, eat a good meal, drink plenty of liquids.

Yes. I had Covid at the end of June. Mostly just fever and loss of appetite for about a week with a touch of pneumonia. For donating Covid plasma they pay $200 for each of the first two donations and $150 for each of the next three. Totally worth the embarrassment . Hopefully it can be used to develop a vaccine or treatment.

Bless you for donating! When I was going through chemo I needed emergency plasma and I was thanking the person who donated! I hope you are feeling stronger now!

Plasma with Covid antibodies has been one of the most significantly consistently effective treatments yet. So you’ll probably save lives ! 👍🏻

Sorry you had a dizzy spell, but that is awesome of you to donate. Great pay too!
I know I have those small veins and they roll and hide and all that jazz with it comes to taking blood and was told to drink tons of water before having a blood draw, so I was familiar with it for that reason, but I probably wouldn't have thought to drink extra if I was donating plasma, but now you know for your future donations.

If it’s a national group paying for Covid plasma , can I ask which Organization? eta. Never mind I forgot I’m fully capable of googling.

I went to a plasma donation center called BioLife, but I believe other donation centers are also having similar promotions. These centers normally pay for your time...not necessarily your plasma....but the normal pay rate for regular plasma is between $20 and $50. They put on promotions to get more donors or to encourage past donors to come back more often. This center currently also has a promotion going on where you will earn $600 for eight donations, but the covid plasma promotion will end up paying me $850 for five donations. ($200/$200/$150/$150/$150). Needless to say, these types of promotions bring in a lot of "interesting" looking donors...lol

Don't be embarrassed, and Thank You for thinking of others that may benefit from your antibodies. I've never tried to give plasma, but I've given blood 3x. All three times I passed out and puked when I regained consciousness. Pretty sure I'm on the hard pass list of the Red Cross.

Thank you. They were there for you, because they know!!!
I had my anti-body testing draw today. I highly doubt I have any. I have excellent veins, I have a puncture in each inner elbow!

How is donating plasma different than donating blood? FWIW, vials of blood are struggle enough for me.

They stick you and connect you to a machine. It withdraws the blood and spins it to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. The plasma collects in a bottle and the blood in a bag. At intervals it reverses and puts your blood back. Then after the container is full of plasma and your blood cells have been reinfused it iinfuses saline to replace the volume of the plasma they took. Plasma is composed of mostly water which is why it is important to be very well hydrated.

This is a good reminder that I haven’t donated blood in quite a while. I need to do that.
A friend of mine is donating plasma monthly for someone she knows undergoing treatments where it’s required. She said her first time made her a little shaky, but she’s gotten used to it.

Thanks for your donation!
Once, long ago, i donated plasma. I was fine until they spun it all out and started putting the blood back in. I fainted too and they were like Thanks but no thanks, lol.
I got my money, it wasn't much back in 1992, but i didn't do it again.
