My previous model SU paper trimmer (the one EVERYONE hates) is finally on its last blade. I've been all over YouTube and various blog posts (Googled) about it, but most are from SU demonstrators. With all the searching, I did find out that the new trimmer is made for SU by a European company called: Vaessen Creative. And that trimmer has really good reviews. If you bought the NEW model, do you really like it? Or is it just *okay*? Thanks so much!!!! Laurel---- : ) I would really like to stop adding to my trimmer graveyard....

I have the new trimmer but I didn't have the old one, so I can't compare the two. I do really like the new trimmer, though. It cuts straight, you can measure to 6 inches without having to extend the swing arm, and I particularly like that you can have the score blade and the cut blade on at the same time. I've had it for a few months and the blade is still sharp despite almost daily use. It's very sturdy. I would buy it again.
I do have a few trimmers and this one is the one I use the most now. I've never really hated any trimmer I've owned, though.

I've been curious about this as well. I have the previous version (the one everyone hates) as well. I love the design of the old trimmer, but the blades dull so incredibly fast. Given how quickly they dull, I would always throw on a pack of blades whenever I placed an order. I was a Demo at the time, so that happened pretty frequently. I still have about a dozen blades left in my stash, but I find I just don't use that trimmer as much anymore because it frustrates me.
I have a couple of guillotine trimmers from Tonic that I really like how they cut, but I miss having measurements on the right side of the blade for cutting thin strips. I bought a Fiskars rotary blade trimmer a few months ago and have been using it, but it just doesn't seem to cut as square as I would like and the 5¼" measurement (which I use VERY frequently as a card maker) falls in the gap of the swing out arm, so I always just have to guess for that cut which is annoying. I've thought about purchasing the set of A2 rectangle dies from Waffle Flower, but it just seems silly to have to die cut rectangles every time a make a card just to have my layers be square.

I have the new one and the old one and I prefer things about each of them.
The new one: The score blade is far superior to the old one. The cut blade does a nice clean cut without too much pressure The numbers are on the right side of the line which I find annoying because once you move your paper to the mark you no longer see the number. The "arm" that holds the blade locks in place and can be difficult to lift with one hand while doing multiple cuts. There is no longer a removable track for the blades which I like very much. Overall it is my favorite one, it just cuts and scores so much better and I like how sturdy it is.
The old one was never one I truly liked but I did like that the numbers were on the left of the line.
I would say go for it! If you have any other questions I'm happy to try to answer them.

I have the old one, but have only tried out the new at a SU party. I didn't realize that the old one cut poorly--I use mine with a lot of photo paper so I assumed the blade wore down quickly because of that.
I haven't committed to buying the new one because: --I am not happy that they got rid of the storage on the backside...love that for my extra blades. --I don't like the new arm. I don't like how it doesn't make a flush surface when folded up. --I don't like how the cutting bar isn't lockable. I travel with mine a lot and don't want it swinging open...but then again... --I didn't like how the cutting bar opens up. It has to pop up, it isn't smooth.
I'm sure if I were to buy it that most of those concerns would be forgotten about, but the biggest one is the lack of storage. Thankfully my old one is still storing 10 blades so I won't have to decide for a little while longer.

Thank you. I just ordered one. I have the old one and a cutter-whatever. I like the cutterbug but it’s the full size and takes up a lot of room. I like the portability of the SU trimmer.

I got the new one to be able to cut a cardstock diagonally. It works out good. I can't compare to the old one.
