Can anyone recommend a good camera for my daughter and her fiancee. They take alot of short trips and borrow my dslr alot and so I thought a camera for Christmas would be a great gift, but don't really want to get them something as big as my dlsr.
Any thoughts or recommendations?

If they borrow your DSLR they are probably going to want a DSLR. Any other camera would just leave them asking to borrow yours again, wouldn't it?

Yep, if they borrow your DSLR they will more than likely still borrow it until they have one of their own. If I don't feel like lugging my DSLR with me I just use my iphone since it takes just as good of photos as any point and shoot I've owned.

What camera do you have that they keep borrowing? I agree with getting them a DSLR, but I wouldn't ask them because that would just give away the hint about what you are thinking of getting them. Just my opinion. I think as long as you go with a Nikon or a Canon you'll be just fine-both companies make excellent cameras and it's really just a choice of which fit's better in your hands, and then how much you were planning to spend, or if you already have lenses you need to the camera to fit with it. My very favorite camera review site is www.kenrockwell.com. I've been using this guy for many years, and he's never steered me in the wrong direction when it comes to choosing a camera. I became a pro in 1990, took a few years off and am starting back up again. Anyway, I really like him because he tells it likes it is, and doesn't use a lot of jargon and fancy BS when it isn't needed. If you need any further help please feel free to Pmail me. I helped a Pea out last year choose one she was looking for. Don't worry, I'm not going to steer you towards something fancy. I myself don't have an arsenal of fancy gear. My personal camera is a Nikon D40X which is 8 years old and is still going strong-a dinosaur as a far as digital cameras go. Debbie in MD.

If you do go the DSLR route, my daughter has a Nikon 3100. She's very interested in photography and she's only 12. She took a class at a local community arts center and the instructor helped us choose this camera for her. A simpler model and very essy to learn and start out on. Yet it will grow with her as well. We're already getting her a second lens for Christmas. The body of the camera will suit her for a long time.
