I didn't know which thread to include this on, so I decided it could use it's own thread!
Scrapbooking Isn't Just for White People -- NYT
This article is amazing in the New York Times! I haven't finished reading yet but I wanted to share here so others could go see. It features Azzari Jarrett and Tazhiana Gordon and talks about the issues in scrapbooking, including the middle-aged white woman stereotype. It also specifically names brands that responded positively (Ali Edwards, Kelly Purkey) and calls out those that didn't (Studio Calico, American Crafts) to the recent BLM movement.
I feel like this is an amazing step in the right direction to get this message out there on such a widely read and respected platform that extends well beyond the scrapbooking community!

Love to see Victoria mentioned as well, and with a link to her blog!

I totally came here to post this!
I’m glad her editor bought into this pitch!

I was so excited to see this and more importantly see companies called out, not just on the forums or in posts where they can silence, but archived in the NYT. As I stated before, companies don't know who their customers are and ig followers isn't the number one metric--there is more reach outside of just IG.

I feel so proud that we've been talking about this for a while now. We are SO FAR AHEAD of the industry in terms of what's needed to keep scrapping alive and healthy. AC is like the evil stepmom in 'Sixth Sense' poisoning its daughter for sympathy.

I was so excited to see this article, and then even more excited to see Tazhi in there showing off her pages, and then even more excited to see that it was also in the PRINT edition, front page of the Thursday style section I believe! Online is good but print is a whole ‘nother level of validation, especially for paper-lovers.
How many people will be printing or clipping this for their scrapbook?

joblackford I am going to print the digital version, or at least the headline for project life. I didn't even think to go buy the physical paper... but I guess the digital one is cleaner for my album anyways.
