If nothing else, if you are a woman, this year marks the 100th anniversary that women got the right to vote. That happened on August 18, 1920 in the USA. Think about all of the work and suffering the suffragettes had to go through to finally get us this right. And go out and VOTE! Think about what life was like for women during that time and what women had to put off with before they got the power to vote. There are two great movies about the suffragettes. "Iron Jawed Angels" is about the American movement and "Suffragette" is about the British movement. I've voted in every Presidential election since I legally have been able to. And I always think of these women when I do. And they did all of their organizing without phones or the Internet. They did a lot of it before cars. Women should be very grateful for all they did for us. Don't squander their work!

I think Patrick Leahy of Vt is the longest in the senate right now if he is still in office.

The frightening thing is that Trump and his die hard supporters won't accept the validity of any election he loses. The Trumpers I know are talking non-stop about supposedly rampant voter fraud. That's the narrative they will go with because Trump is on track to lose. they can protest all they want but the 20th Amendment says “the terms of the president and vice president shall end at noon” on January 20. regarding a line of succession, next person in line in the absence of a President and VP is the Speaker of House and that's Nancy Pelosi. how's he going to like them apples then? i'm sure there will be lawsuits and protests filed right and left but if Congress relies on the Constitution, isn't this what would happen? ETA: but if the House terms expire in early January, it shifts back to the Senate and the Longest Serving Majority Senator . from the looks of it, it's Orrin Hatch (according to Google). I’m not worried about them protesting. I’m worried about them starting another civil war.
