Cathy Zielske's newsletter popped into my inbox this morning and spotting a fresh new set of pandemic themed PL cards, I opened it up to read. Whilst I'm not focusing much on the ongoing CV scene in my PL, I try to include an update each week as a record of how things are. Having snagged that freebie, I looked at the rest of the content, much of which seemed to be a sales pitch. When did CZ move so heavily into colouring? I think I must be muddling CZ up with someone else because what I saw was not what I associate CZ with....has she really switched style completely? Anyway, I feel a bit mean grabbing that freebie and moving right along, but I'll o ffer her a bit of extra traffic and share the link in return.

She switched over to mainly card making a few years ago. I believe quote a bit of it had to do with her kids wanting more of their lives private and not out there for public consumption. She found that she could still do the crafty stuff she loved and honor their wishes with card making. She still does her version of PL but its more private I believe. I have to give her kudos for putting her kids first.

She still has a lot of the same style and design that she had when she scrapped more. She's very good at teaching design theories and also at sharing her mistakes and fixes. A lot of what she does on cards right now, can easily be applied to pages. She also has a lot of digital elements and templates available. And, of course, she's still the same person! With a silly attitude and lots of fun. I guess I'm just saying...don't be too quick to dismiss her just because it isn't the same as it used to be. We all change, even in our creative ventures.

I have to give her kudos for putting her kids first. Absolutely! Total respect for that - thank you needtime2scrap, that makes complete sense and I think all the more of her for taking that stance.

Agree...100%... not dismissing her at all, it's just that I am not really into Copic markers etc. Perhaps it reveals more about how little attention I have paid recently. I enjoy watching people grow and develop a style, adapting techniques and making them their own. It's my loss that sadly, we have grown in different directions.

I made the mistake of reading her blog years ago. I just don’t like her so I’ve never been a customer and can’t bring myself to purchase her products.
So this post made me go look at her blog again. I still don’t like her or her voice (writing). Looks like she’s trying to up her game with You Tube. I assume she coloring to build her customer base.

However, I kinda selfishly wish she had taken a stab at some child free scrapping so perhaps the industry would catch on that not everyone always scraps children centric. She has enough visibility that it might make a difference. Then again a few years ago it might not have mattered to the manufacturing community either. It has to be the right moment for change

Thanks for sharing about the freebie! I think she also started making more cards when she joined the SCT magazine staff.

Yeah, a couple of years (?) back she moved in a different direction. As a card maker I should’ve been more interested instead of less, but she also got really bitchy on Instagram, that “be kind” brand of bitchy where everyone else has to be kind but the celebs gets to be as bitchy as they like, so I unfollowed her and haven’t touched her stuff since. I just got fed up with her attitude (as expressed on IG stories). And there are better, more personable card makers I can follow for inspiration.
I think the direction she was taking with her personal documenting projects didn’t have much to offer in terms of sharing/promoting product/making a living and it seemed like she was getting a bit burned out. She started doing photo books with really quick simple pages. Card making has a lot more potential for affiliate marketing and she was designing for SSS about 5 minutes after she started making cards, so it made sense.

She lost me when she became a health and weight loss guru some years ago. I don't like her style of teaching either. It's probably just me, but I find her to be condescending with a forced sense of humor. Like I said, it could be me. This pandemic is really getting to me.

For me, every card looks the same. Rainbow colors (blended of course), and a sentiment in the middle. She’s good for the new card makers to get a start and start simple, but after watching for awhile, you want a more than rainbow colors.

She's one of the card makers I follow, I like her style. I actually think she colors MUCH less than most other card makers. I've only watched her YouTube videos.
