We were gearing up for a quiet weekend. Just went with DH yesterday to pick up his pre-surgical immune shakes to begin today.... Surgery is supposed to be on Thursday (bladder/prostate/tumor removal).
He's had back pain for a few days. No fever, but he's been sweating (not normal in our freezing apartment). He assured me that there were no signs of a UTI or bladder infection. He woke up and was sure he had a UTI now.
His urologist said to immediately go to Urgent Care for a culture. Not sure if he'll be able to go on antibiotics today, but if he can, then surgery might still be on...... It's up in the air now. We'll find out more when we speak to his Urologist again on Monday.
I feel so badly for him and I'm mad at myself for not insisting he gets it checked out as SOON as he said his back hurt. He's so prone to both UTIs and kidney infections. Ugh......
UPDATE 8/11: So far his surgery is on. He's feeling almost all better, and didn't need a stronger antibiotic. Not sure why his back is still hurting though.
He has to go tomorrow for a last minute CT scan to make sure that his cancer hasn't spread. We'll await that result tomorrow night. If anything changed, the surgery is off. Covid test results should come in today too. But we're prepping like it's a "go" for Thurs. morning at 7:30 am. It'll be a 6 hour surgery. I'll be at home (not allowed to come in), waiting for info.
Oh, and I have an appt with my eye surgeon tomorrow to re-check everything. Last minute, but DH will have his CT scan while I go to my appt. Maybe she'll figure out why I'm in so much pain.
Thanks, Peas, for your words. I'm hyper from thinking of all I have to get in order by Thursday. We'll leave at 4 am!

I am so sorry! Y'all have been through so much! Do not give up hope on the surgery. Antibiotics can change a situation quickly!
Also? Do not blame yourself! You are doing the best you can. You had no idea this would turn into a UTI. You're getting him to the Dr and (hopefully) on a prescription. No one could ask more of you!

Thank you mom. I DO blame myself because he never complains about pain. When he mentioned his back, I should have insisted that he gets checked out. We're SO close to his big surgery and it took so much to get here. I just feel badly for him... I'll see what happens when he gets home. I couldn't go because I was in bed with migraine pain. Thank you janeliz. Hoping he'll come home with an Rx and we'll relax this weekend!

Thanks all. He just got home. He said that they were thorough. They called in an Rx for Cipro for now. If it's a stronger infection, they'll change it in a few days....... Hope that's good enough to keep his surgery on for Thursday.
He's calm. I'm a wreck.

Don’t lose heart. If he’s on the right antibiotic, there’s enough time between now & his scheduled surgery to turn things around. They’ll check his kidney function when he arrives for his surgery. You guys have sure been on a roller coaster ride. Try to hang on just a little bit longer. Keeping checking in between now & then. You can yell, curse, rant & rave, throw things, whatever you need to do or say here. The peas have your back. Sending you much love and virtual hugs.

So sorry and hope he will feel better soon so that the surgery can take place. Don't blame yourself for not insisting he do something about his back. You've been doing a wonderful job taking care of him and yourself. Hugs

I was worried that I wouldn't be able to have my scheduled gallbladder surgery when I got a UTI, but they were absolutely fine with me doing it. I was on antibiotics for 2-3 days beforehand.

Oh my, I am so very sorry to read tonight of another set back for you both. Please try not to get into the blame game with yourself-woulda, shoulda and all of that. I know it's hard to let go of that but stress is not your friend and it's best to just let it go right now completely. Take a big breath and slowly let it out. There. That's down with. It's in the past and let's now deal with just the facts. G went to Urgent Care and got the antibiotic. Cipro is supposed to work quickly and you've got 5 days until the day of surgery. That's 5 long days for it to work. And it's 5 long days for you to watch over G like a hawk and call his doctor if he doesn't get better. If he doesn't improve by Monday I'd consider calling his doctor to discuss options. It doesn't hurt to stay in touch, right?
How are you feeling? Is your migraine any better? I can't even begin to imagine dealing with all of this with a migraine on top of it. You are doing the very best you can and in truth you are a force to be reckoned with. You are so strong and tenacious-I admire you so much. Hang in there. Let the stress go if you possibly can. You are in the home stretch.
Sending you lots of hugs and prayers for both of you.

Checking in. Hope he has gotten the treatment he needs Yes, thanks. He's on Cipro for now. They'll change it to something more powerful if the infection is worse than they thought. He's sweating a lot so I know he's fighting the infection. Prayer mode, since he tends to go into sepsis easily. I'm watching him. Thanks!!
