I have a small bedroom for my space, and I struggle with what to call it. It was supposed to be my husband’s office, but that corner of the house gets terrible cell connection for whatever reason, so he abandoned it. Then it morphed into a second playroom, before I took it over. Everyone was still calling it “the office”, but it bugs me since I do not work in there. I feel like a phony calling it an office. Lol. It is where I do creative stuff, read, and do yoga. I mused about calling it a studio - as that is technically what you’d call an artist’s space, and also what you call a yoga space. But calling it a studio sounds too pretentious to me. My husband and oldest call it “ mom’s studio” and I feel like they’re teasing me every time. 🙃 Most of the time I just call it “my room”, but that causes problems with kids then asking “which one?” 🤪 - uh, not the one I sleep in! Studio seems less pretentious than Atelier 😁 ( unless maybe your French ) and less mispronunciations.

My scrapbooking desk is in the office. Used to be MY office but DH has moved in so he can work from home. It was formerly our master bedroom before our remodel. Our new last is upstairs.

I call it my craft room though because I'm working a lot from home, it is now my office, too.

I used to call my room my scrapbook room. Then it became my craft room when I ventured into card making and playing more with mixed media stuff etc. But a few weeks ago my youngest son tracked me down in there and said "This is quite the lovely little nest you have made for yourself hey Mum" I really liked that description and image and so far it has stuck....I now call it "my little nest".

I call it my craft are since I share the space with our kids. It’s a media/game room I made into a playroom, craft area, and tv space. I’m no help.

I love that! "my little nest" sounds so warm and cozy. My space is transient lol. It's been moved from my home office, to my dining room, and is now taking over my walkin closet and bedroom. So I just call it my scrap space. And now I want a bigger apartment lol.

Craft room slash office.
But now it’s the baby’s nursery. But I still have my desk in there.

Thank you ALL for your replies. You have given me so many ideas. It's just lovely reading descriptions of your spaces and your names for them. Some are logical, some hilarious and some touching. <3
I love them all. You gals are the best!

I call it the playroom. When my kids were young, that's what it was. Now that they are grown, it's where I play.

My space doesn’t really have a name. My desk and all my stuff is in my bedroom, and I spend most of my time here, so it never really needs a name. However, my DD moved out last month and I plan to turn her bedroom into my bedroom, and the current space will be known as the craft/Lego room! DS and I are both big Lego fans, so we’ll add an extra desk to the craft room so that he can work beside me. My friend got a she shed earlier this year, and it is affectionately known as Sheddy Mercury. She also considered Sheddy Lamarr and Shed Astaire.

Studio seems less pretentious than Atelier 😁 ( unless maybe your French ) and less mispronunciations. Atelier (ah-tell-yeah) is definitely the non-pretentious, standard word in French (place and workshop). Craftelier is a nice pun used by a European scrap and craft store.

I have a nook... a spot in the main living area that has been created buy keeping a cupboard in place that left room for a desk. I was stupid and said no to built in cupboards when we built the house... and now I want the cupboards! Lol.

It's so fun to hear about everyone's space & names. My mom always had an "art room" growing up but she was a trained artist. I call mine my studio but now that I'm working from home, it's also become my office. My bf helped me set up the space so now I have two computer monitors, plus my laptop. He's sweet though and my monitors are white so they go better in the space but I don't love how my work life has taken over my crafty space. Grateful to still have a job though. scrappymum love the idea of calling it my nest. That does sound so cozy.

Great names - I need to rename mine - we call it the dungeon because it's a corner of the basement and it's dark and isolated!!! If I refer to it to people outside the family I call it my "scrap space". I think I'm going to adopt "craft area" from now on. It describes it well and is easier for non scrapbookers to understand.

Craftelier is a nice pun used by a European scrap and craft store. yeah I had an architect friend who had his office called Atelier but the mispronunciations were horrendous. Add in the many Brooklyn clients and boy was that butchered. I guess the ‘best’ was Ah -Tilley -Yer 🙄
