I’m watching ER reruns and while I watched it when it was on (20yrs ago??😳) I haven’t noticed how Greys mirrors ER. The story lines obviously since they’re hospital er but I’m even referring to characters. I’m not complaining I love both shows!

Can you be more specific?

I never watch Greys really except if I happened to have it on for no particular reason, but I always kinda felt it was very similar (moreso than what would be normal since both are medical shows) but I didn't watch it enough to really make that statement.

So I stink at character names but the ones that stick out are: Carter and Jackson-wealthy backgrounds Abby/Jo- mental illness story line Weaver/Arizona-leg issue and lesbian Abby/Kovoc/Carter Mere/Deluca/? Love triangle Yang/Burke Chen/Pratt super couple Black/Asian Corday/Green Mere/Derek super couple male dies off Romano/Webber hidden health issues
There’s more but these stuck out in my head. I used google for names.
Also Kavoc reminds me of someone on Greys but I can’t place it.

Rewatching St. Elsewhere right now.

There are definitely storylines that are very similar. I hadn't thought through the role similarities, but they are definitely there. Side note...just watched the one in the last season where Dr. Greene "returns" in a flashback and now I want to start the series all over again when I'm done!

I have been rewatching ER the last month and up to Season 10 and I had the same thought as well. I am pleasantly surprised at how well I think it holds up and could air today. I have really been emotional about certain characters and watching has been a bright spot in my boring pandemic days. I would love to check out St. Elsewhere again as it’s been so long since I watched it originally.

I loved loved loved ER. When Greys anatomy came out, I watched the first 2 or 3 episodes and I felt it was an ER knockoff, but not as good. Maybe it got better, but I never tried again.

I love Greys; I was never a big ER fan.

Ha, that's interesting! What's odd for me is that I loved ER, watched every episode and even have binge watched it again recently, but I'm not a Grey's fan.

I've watched both ER and Grey's (entire series) twice. I think ER is superior to Grey's in that Grey's is more soap opera like while ER tends to emphasize the medical side. There were many episodes of ER that wrenched me emotionally far more than Grey's like when Kovac is in Africa and comes so close to being killed.
I've also watched Private Practice (which was an off shoot of Grey's) twice. It's also more soap opera type-who is sleeping with who with a bit of medical thrown in to keep it interesting.
The character similarities you noticed between ER and Grey's is really interesting Kluski. I never noticed that before.
I watched St. Elsewhere back when it was on, and I tried it again but the old format was difficult to watch. I'll have to give it another go. I love medical dramas.

I prefer police dramas, but I have recently started watching Chicago Med and New Amsterdam. I'm enjoying both of them. I watched ER back in the day, but gave up before it ended. I've never watched more than a few episodes of Grey's. Oh, and Chicago Hope - I loved that!
