It is called broken dishes. I took the class from Jenny Doan who was our national teacher at our Quilt Walk Festival this year. It is on her tutorials on her web site also. The fabric line is "table for two" thanks,

You use the glue to match the seams . It washes out when the quilt is washed. It works really well. I started using it when binding my quilts. So you glue the blocks together to keep them lined up? for matching seams I use the stick school glue and iron it before sewing to dry the glue thoroughly. For basting quilts I use the liquid school glue. I think it's important for the glue to be dry before sewing over it.

I sat and stared at my fabrics last night, trying to convince myself that it is okay to use them. It didn't work. LOL!!! I am working on a spider web quilt with fabrics from Deb Strain's Pumpkin Party. I had to order a couple more gray prints and just waiting on them to arrive. I love making string quilts and use the papers from Missouri Star Quilt Co. really helps with the spider web quilt. I have a HUGE collection of 1930's reproduction and I am going to start a spider web quilt with strips from my stash later this evening. I LOVE string quilts!! I have a box that I keep strips in, to save for making a string quilt someday. Just today I was looking at it and thinking I can't wait till I have enough. I will admit that I bought some 5 inch charm squares and cut them up to help make my string quilt (I did Bonnie Hunter's X-string one for my dad a few years ago). It gave me a much larger range of fabrics too.....

You can do it that way! Back in the dark ages when I learned to quilt it was all done by hand. Piecing and quilting. We cut out cardboard templates and traced around each one and cut it out with scissors. Using a machine was looked down on as not real quilting. We've come a long way, baby! This is how I learned to quilt too. Of course, it takes forever to do it all by hand, so the modern techniques really transformed quilting.(I ran across some of my old cardboard templates while sorting boxes from my attic this summer. There was a time that using see-through template plastic was a huge improvement!) I still have a hard time accepting machine quilted quilts as on the same par with fully hand pieced and quilted quilts, and there was a time when machine quilted quilts would not have been exhibited in a major quilt show, but some people have turned machine quilting into an art form in recent years, and I'm in awe of their work. It's not something I have yet learned how to do. I do love all the modern cutting and piecing techniques and how fast quilts now come together. I wish I had the patience for machine quilting but I find it so difficult and still prefer to hand quilt because I'm afraid I'll ruin my pieced top by trying to machine quilt it. This week I put the first coat of paint up in my new sewing room! We have a long way to go before I can move into it- probably January by the time I'm able to unpack boxes. I'm looking forward to pulling out all my fabric and getting back to quilting.

I took another twin size quilt to my llong arm gal. ( I made a quilt with Frida Calo sp? fabric) I am also having hervwuiltva x-mas tree panel and then I am going to add lights to that. I am almost done with another outdoor mans quilt. I bought a kit when I was in South Dakota. My other daughter wants me to make a quilt for her and her roommates to use while they watch tv.. I ordered some PItt fabric the other day.

I did the last seam matches with the regular school glue and I think it worked a little better and was less messy than the stick. So what do y'all think of this border fabric for this? It has most of the colors from the top but instead of the pink, it has orange. I could also do a solid border. The border background and the stripes are all brown but the stripes are darker. Some beautiful fabric and quilts in this thread. This is my plan for the new year. Never made a quilt before but my sister has, so I am going to try and make one. I can sew so I think I'll be okay . I love looking at all the quilt pictures.

Gale, your border fabric is perfect!! Looking at your bookshelf of fabrics, I noticed we have similar tastes. I have a bunch of the Moda Eden and can't bear to use it yet. I haven't been able to find a pattern that I think really does justice to the prints.

I bought a jelly roll, attended a day class, made one square, other one needs a fix and ................ now I need to get my a..e into gear and do more. Problem is because it is a new skill every step is taking ages as I triple check myself. But making a quilt is on my bucket list so I better get cracking. All these fabulous quilts and fabrics are wonderful to look at and make me realise what a journey I have ahead of me. Where are the dead easy patterns??

Last night I cut and sewed 20 more squares for the blue/green quilt I started about 5 years ago. Now it will be big enough for a double bed with a bit of overhang.
Going to lay them out when I have some quiet time with no one else around and then start sewing them together! Yay!

LOL. Cats are sooo helpful, aren't they. I took a couple more pics and think I might go with this instead. I think the extra border of dark brown sort of finishes off the lines in the top. Attachments:

I liked the border before, but adding the solid border first really ties the interior design together. Now it looks perfect!

I made this mini quilt a few weeks ago. Whoa-that is probably one of the neatest quilts I've seen, ever. Did you have a pattern or did you make that up yourself? I love it!

I made this mini quilt a few weeks ago. Wow! How do you do that? Making something like that is way beyond my skill set and creativity! Very cool. I especially like the text pattern for her face.

Thanks Gale W and Ashley! I made this quilt from a sketch I did awhile ago. I used my own hand dyed fabric for the background, fusible applique to cut out the girl. The trees started as a rubber stamp, then I thread sketched on top and for the leaves. I've made several of these "girl" quilts before and like using text print for the face and body. Because I'm a showoff here's another one: Thanks again!

Only thing I've done that is quilt-related is buying fabric. I have a friend that has asked me to make three "lovey" quilts out of her grandfather's old flannel shirts for her and her two siblings for their children to share. I am going to make them rag quilts with the shirts on one side with alternating navy blocks (front and back) and then to orange on the back side of the shirt fabric so that the back is orange and navy checkerboard. They are Auburn fans so they will hopefully love it!

mcscrapper - Question for you on the lovey quilts: do you use any stabilizer on some of the more threadbare or thin parts of the shirts? I have a friend who wants me to make a lap quilt from her Dad's old flannel shirts, but when we went through them, many were rather threadbare. I can tell it would mean a lot to her to have a quilt with her (now deceased) Dad's shirts, but I need some advice on making them a little sturdier to use as fabric in a quilt she might snuggle under. Any suggestions much appreciated!

I've been MIA from quilting for awhile. My sister is coming to visit me this month and I started a quilt for her about 2 years ago when I first began quilting. The top was 3.4 of the way done. I had about 20 more squares to sew together into blocks then sewed all teh blocks together. It's amazing how much my piecing has improved in that time. it was a bit of a challenge in some places and there are lots of places that don't match but that's ok. she won't mind and she knows how much I've grown in my skills since then. There are about 95 different fabrics in this quilt and some only appear once while others only appear twice. It's a log cabin which make up the "pluses". I got the sandwich glued together today so will start quilting it tomorrow. I must say it was very nice to sit at the machine again. My happy place.

And, totally my favourite kinds of quilts all combined together... lots of white.. lots of different fabs... plus signs.. AND a log cabin! LOVE IT!

Well, I've bought a little too much fabric, but I'm sure I'm not the only one. This weekend, I finished quilting 2 quilts, a football one and a pink/green/cream one. Now, onto binding - my favorite part! Tonight I sketched out a quilt that I hope to finish by Christmas. Today I did quilt math for a pillow I need to make for a Holiday swap I'm in. I have two weeks to start/finish it. It will be a 20" wreath pillow with mostly green and low volume for the background 1.5" squares - I'll be cutting this week in the evening. slicksister - nice blues!
