I've been MIA from quilting for awhile. My sister is coming to visit me this month and I started a quilt for her about 2 years ago when I first began quilting. The top was 3.4 of the way done. I had about 20 more squares to sew together into blocks then sewed all teh blocks together. It's amazing how much my piecing has improved in that time. it was a bit of a challenge in some places and there are lots of places that don't match but that's ok. she won't mind and she knows how much I've grown in my skills since then. There are about 95 different fabrics in this quilt and some only appear once while others only appear twice. It's a log cabin which make up the "pluses". I got the sandwich glued together today so will start quilting it tomorrow. I must say it was very nice to sit at the machine again. My happy place. Beautiful quilt!! I love blues and would love to make an all-blue and white quilt someday.

Some very beautiful and inspiring quilts on this thread. Thanks for sharing pictures so the rest of us can admire them.
I've spent the last couple of months doing an on-line free motion quilting course with Leah Day. It's been really good. She's a great teacher and I've thoroughly enjoyed the process of making and quilting 42 blocks. I'm now at the stage where I'm putting them together. Because each block is quilted individually they will now be put together with sashing. I've always been a hand quilter but am trying to become a better machine quilter and over the course of this course I've seen my skills improve dramatically. Once I get it done I'll try to post a picture.
I'm leaving today for the 12 hour drive to Chicago to spend the next 5 days quilting with some friends. It'll be a marathon session of tea drinking, sewing, late nights and laughing together (there will be 4 of us) and I can't wait. We're doing two "group" projects (where we all make the same quilt top): a snail's trail using batiks and I spys. Should be a lot of fun.
