Just catching up on another board about the sad state of NYC theatre and then saw that Cuomo has given the ok to reopen museums and other cultural institutions in the state of New York (with limited, timed entry) beginning August 24. As many of you know, my son lives in NYC and I’m in Seattle, so both our areas got hit hard and fast with Covid right at the very beginning. It was really scary as we had no idea what to expect (unlike many other areas who have gotten hit hard later on).
NYC is giving me hope that we CAN turn this thing around. Seattle/King County seems to be stuck In Phase 2 and is not moving forward. I’m really amazed with what NYers have done and I hope it “sticks” through the fall and winter. That said, my son is still WFH (as is his partner) and neither believes they’ll be back in their respective offices until the new year. I really hope that’s the case because even with the very low positive testing rate currently, I’d really hate to see them commuting on the subway now.
I’m not a twitter user so I don’t think I can imbed a tweet but Cuomo posted a graph to his twitter yesterday that is really impressive.
Anyhow, kudos to the New Yorkers on this board. Pat yourselves on the back, you’ve done an amazing job thus far!

New Yorker here! A lot of people have been bitching about Governor Cuomo, and while I agree that there are definitely reasons to dislike him, we wouldn't be in the place we are right now if not for his leadership. I've been pleasantly surprised about compliance regarding mask wearing and social distancing, but am also concerned because some people seem to think that COVID is over and done with and we should be 100% back to normal with no restrictions.
My company has told anyone that is able and wishes to that they can continue to work from home until the end of January, at least. I'm back in the office pretty much full time, which has actually been good for me because I live alone and lost my kitty companion right at the beginning of quarantine, and the isolation was really getting to me. The building I work in is at less than 50% capacity, and the company has strict protocols regarding cleaning/mask wearing/distancing, and we have to submit a health survey every day before coming in to the building, so I don't feel unsafe.

It’s all of NY that has worked hard and done as we were asked to do. The subways are cleaner now from what I’ve been told than ever before. The entire state deserves big kudos. Where I live, no Covid patients in any hospital, new cases are at an all time low, and my county has had NO deaths since April.
Bowling alleys can open on Monday and gyms will get their orders to open on Monday also. I really really hope there are no spikes when schools open after Labor Day.
There are many many reasons to dislike Cuomo. But that’s a story for another day.

My oldest is supposed to start college in NY in a few weeks, and I have my fingers crossed that they will be able to actually do so (and that things will be Ok all fall). I am so thrilled with how the state has pulled things together.

I am so jealous of NY. They are the cool kids, and the rest of us just suck. Well not really the rest of us, just the selfish, entitled people that don't treat this seriously.

How I wish other states had done the same as we did...I hated some of the restrictions and still do!(I really miss a couple friends) But if we can maybe just maybe influence other states with how great our numbers are..wouldn't that be wonderful.

I'm so glad we are doing well. I also wish that we would wait until AFTER schools open up to do things like open gyms and museums.
Move ONE variable at a time, not one big one (schools) and a bunch of smaller ones!
I admit it, though - I'm just scared. Very scared. I'd like to be able to travel to visit my parents and other older family members out of state without worry.

I think we were all “scared straight” with Cuomo’s daily briefings. The numbers were terrifying. Our phased re-opening was logical, planned, and based on the infection rate. I, personally, am still not comfortable with the idea of indoor dining or making a random Target/store run besides groceries. Dining outside or take-out only. It’s not fun, but thankfully I’m not a shopper so I have not found that to be difficult. I’ve had pedicures and haircuts, with the new guidelines in place for those businesses (fewer customers, masks, spacing). I’m back to work, in an office, and we all follow social distancing and masks (surprising, considering the many different personalities of my co-workers!). Slow and steady. I’m really proud of NYS meeting this challenge.

New Yorker here and getting used to the new way of living. Wear my mask And have hand sanitizer all the time. Back to work full time in the office, go out to eat, get nails and hair done etc. Also just came back from the Jersey Shore from vacation. All while wearing masks and staying safe.

MichyM: Now you can appreciate one reason why I miss my beloved NY!!! I NEVER, EVER should have left!!! Honestly, nothing has compared in other States + I still have family there. I love living in a State where I am informed and I usually agree with their plan of action. It's admirable. (I moved from that to NJ, which was okay, and then to FL....... ugh! We don't even get daily briefings down here vs. how Cuomo handled it up there! We have no idea of the #s, etc.!). Glad your son is in a State where they are resiliant and they work together to keep everyone safe!!

Another ex-New Yorker here, with family still living on Long Island.
I am so proud of my home state, everyone worked hard and did the right thing! Even though I missed my annual visit with my family this spring, I am glad that Gov. Cuomo was such a strong leader and managed the crisis so well. I’m praying that things stay good in NY and that the openings don’t trigger another rise in cases. I ❤️ NY!

Another proud New Yorker here. As I go on my evening walks, I still see pretty much everyone wearing a mask. I think we took this seriously and pulled together as a city and state.

Chicago has opened these too. It's limited hours and numbers of people.
We're doing well too. I'm thrilled.
Although the next thing is I'm so disheartened and disgusted. My neighbor, who is a friend for years, is having a party tonight. People in/out of her house. How do I know. Our backyards are close to each other and their blinds are open. So...if I didn't have to let the dang dog out I wouldn't see them.
Sadness.........
