Welcome to November! Hope y'all had a great Halloween & weekend with some good miles.
It was legit chilly here in NC this morning & I had to tell myself that I had been dreaming of temps like this all summer & I needed to get out there & enjoy it. Got my 7 miles in & finished week 4 of my training plan. This was the week that bumped up my mid week run mileage from 4 miles to 5 miles.
How's everyone doing? Any races coming up? Goals to meet?

I just watched the end of NY Marathon and saw one man his nipples were bleeding through his shirt. Do women not get that because we wear sports bras that prevent movement? Do the men and women run separately?

annabella, men more traditionally get them because as the salt in sweat dries, it rubs against the fabric of their shirts. Since men's nipples generally stick out all the time, it can cause irritation/chafing/bleeding over long distances. I will chafe in long runs especially in the summer around my sports bra. Body Glide is the solution to this problem, but I always seem to miss a spot no matter how much I put on. If you've never had the "pleasure" of hot water from the shower hitting a chafed spot, consider yourself duly warned - it hurts enough to make you yell.

Ha ha, Yoki. That is so true. Sometimes I finish a long run with no problems and then I get into the shower and DAMN! I have been super lazy since the MCM 10k last weekend. Actually, I've been sorta lazy since my half marathon in Sept. I need to get some fire under my butt and get back to work. I've been getting about 3 runs in a week, but they have been slow and just sort of blah. I had a Performance Analysis done by two exercise physiologists on Friday and it was amazing. They measured all kinds of stuff and kicked out a ton of data regarding my heart rate, VO2 max, gait and cadence. I found out that I wasn't in the right shoes and by switching, I might save up to two minutes on my 10k time. I'll believe that when I see it, but I'm due for some new kicks so I will try their recommendation. They spoke very highly of the Hoka Bondi. I've heard great things about them so I will probably give them a try. They are crazy looking shoes. Another thing they said was that I wasn't utilizing my "engine" very well. Apparently, my oxygen capacity is a lot better than my race times. I sort of interpreted that to mean I'm lazy and could do a lot better. Not sure how I feel about that. Anyone have have races coming up?

Anyone have have races coming up? Cool! I'd love to have that type of analysis! You know that Anna and I are Hoka fans - the width of your foot should guide which model you go for. Anna's feet are much wider than mine and the Bondi's are perfect for her. I actually sent my Bondi's back and exchanged them for Conquests because I couldn't lace the Bondi's tight enough for my feet. I was supposed to run the Disney Wine and Dine on Saturday, but my youngest son broke his big toe (he has osteogenesis Imperfecta) and between doctor visits for that and an evening at the White House on Thursday (hoping to get to meet Michele), I am not going to get to make it down to run it. If anyone who runs for charity wants to help clear up misinformation on the Destination Fund Raising thread - I, personally, would appreciate it.

elaine, it was super cool. One of the"perks" of War College I suppose. They offer it to the students and their spouses free of charge. We were able to do it when we were at Leavenworth, but I didn't take advantage of it. I tried the Hokas on a few days ago, and I had to go down a half size because they seemed so big. I'm going to my running store later this week to get a pair. They feel really weird not to mention they look like crazy moon shoes. That sucks your little guy broke his toe and you aren't able to do the Wine and Dine. What a huge bummer. A WH visit will make it all better. That is pretty cool. A couple friends of mine got to trick or treat at the WH this year. One of them talked up Michelle and the other got to meet the president. What function are you doing? So, so cool!! Before we leave DC, I would love to be able to attend some sort of function at the WH. I don't see it happening, but a girl can dream.

I did a 10k race with my sisters boyfriend and it was his first race and he did well! I stayed with him and we finished under an hour so that's good.
Going to run again this evening, just a short run since my legs hurt. Probably from the hills which I have none near me.

It will be on pbs on Friday night even though the event is on Thursday. Performers will include Mary J Blige, John Fogerty, and Willie Nelson. There will also be some sort of reception - I'm very excited as it is a bucket list kind of thing for me too. Yes, Hoka's run big. I wear 8.5s in all my running shoes except Hokas, in which I am in my street shoe size 8. Yes, they look a little goofy compared to regular running shoes, but you'll be amazed by how often you will spot them on other runners these days. Kind of like when you buy a new car and are suddenly aware of all the others :grin:driving the same model.

elaine - so sorry you're going to miss Wine & Dine! I hope the WH event makes up for the disappointment a little bit! Kymberlee - that sounds like a very detailed analysis - cool! candygurl - congrats on the 10K! Hope your legs loosen up soon! I got my 5 miles in this morning. Nothing remarkable to report one way or the other.

I got 3.5 miles in on Tuesday, but didn't get a chance to run yesterday because I spent several hours at the salon getting ready and then we left for the White House at 3:45. It was an amazing evening - the concert part will be on PBS tonight, if anyone wants to see it.

I'm headed out for a short run in about an hour.
Elaine, I'm very envious of your evening at the White House. What a great experience!
