Some of you on another thread asked me if I would post some pictures of the fifth wheel renovation the cowboy and I did so I cobbled together what I had. Our life situation has found us with the need to live in our 5th wheel fulltime again. I'm not particularly happy about it but when life gives you lemons you make a lemon drop! Her name is Lucille and she's a 1993 Avion by Fleetwood. She's sturdy and VERY well built. She had solid oak cabinets and flooring none of which were damaged or showing much signs of wear. But she was dated and not my style and I figured if my soul was going to survive living in her for the foreseeable future she needed a face lift.
We started out by ripping out all the carpets in the main living area, the slide out and the bathroom. We left the bedroom alone. We tore out the hardwood floor in the kitchen. Then about 2 days were spent just pulling out tacks. Ugh. Then we took off all the cupboard doors and pulled out the drawers. I spray painted all the hinges flat black.
Several years ago when we bought Lucille we took out those awful RV window valance things but the L brackets holding them up weren't held on by screws they were pop riveted on and at that time we were under a major time crunch to get moved in so we didn't take them out. So that was our next job. They didn't come out easily and so after we got them out we had major holes to fill in the walls. We took off all the switch plates, vent covers, wall lights and anything else we could and then sanded EVERYTHING. Wiped it all down and then filled more holes - cause of course we missed some - and wiped it all down again. Then we primed with a bonding primer. Then because of the oak we had to put 3 coats of paint on in some places.
Next came my favorite change we made and that was framing in the windows. What an incredible difference that made! Next we insulated the living room part of the slide out and put old wood on that wall. I carried this wood around with me for 2 years knowing I would have the perfect project for it some day.
I spray painted all the brown vents and outlet covers white and even the heads of the screws we used.
Next the job I hated most - replacing the cupboard doors and putting on the new drawer pulls which, of course, didn't fit into the existing holes. I think all of Oregon heard me swearing on that job.
After that came the peel and stick wallpaper. OH MY WORD. I am soo in love with that stuff. An experienced friend helped me with all the cuts and corners in the bathroom. I managed the backs of the cubby holes myself. LOL I just love how it all looks.
Then while the cowboy laid the vinyl planks on the floor I painted and repainted some furniture pieces. I also found 2 matching chairs at a yard sale for $10 each. They were disgustingly filthy but I managed to find a place that would rent me an upholstery cleaning machine and most of the filth came out. They aren't perfect but they are acceptable.
Once the floor was down we were able to move in. We've been in about 3 weeks or so. There's still a bit to do - the flooring still needs to go down on the slides, we need an adapter for the living room light sconces and the toilet needs a part before it can go in. (We have access to a bathroom)
Wednesday was the first day in almost a year that I could sit down with my coffee, listen to Spotify and craft. I felt like I had a normal life again. I have so many of my favorite things around me and am so blessed.
I don't have pictures of the bedroom for some crazy reason. I'll add a few more pictures later.
Oh, BTW we did it all for less than $2000.
