It’s such an upsetting story. It’s clear to see how Kyle Rittenhouse was radicalized. A love for guns and weapons that started as a child, an obsession with police and “law and order”. It’s awful. He shot people and then was able to leave the area at free will and go home. Jacob Blake was unarmed and was shot 7 times in front of his children. I hate this country sometimes. A lot, lately. I do too!

I read the bit about his mother also. I’m hoping it’s not true. It’s already surreal that he was allowed to just walk away. Olan couldn't agree more. On so many levels. Why the hell (if) would she encourage that? and damn. the regret a mom would have now, assuming no ill intentions and just really stupid move. REALLY stupid. Bad judgement 101 stupid.

I just read (elsewhere) that Rittenhouse's mother drove him to Kenosha. with his rifle, to do his thing. Holy hell, can't imagine. Then found this Instagram (consider the source) that suggests we he had run ins with the law himself. One being drunk use of a firearm. Poster suggests that since that's what we do with black victims,(exam their background for justification) we should do it with the shooter too. Can't say I disagree. http://instagr.am/p/CEZBZXPhr5D Besides all the other comments in the replies that I agree with, here is something else. I have a 17 yr. old. There is no way I would drive my 17 yr. old with a gun to a place where rioting is going on! She is putting her child in danger. And there is a lot more wrong with this, but that was already mentioned in the comments. I hope that egg donor (I can't even call her a mom) is charged too! Sorry, I am so angry!

The mother should be charged with Accessory to Murder. Full stop.

If anyone has read a news article (local, otherwise) that talks about the mom could you link it? I’d like to read it.

Supposedly ( I have not seen it) there is a fb group, calling "Patriots" to come to Kenosha, armed ,to act as Militia. The news channel here said it had been removed, but that is why armed people from WI, IL, and Minn have shown up. I will see if there is an online link for the broadcast. Maybe a perimeter needs to be established. The national guard from our state and neighboring states hAve been called up, but I don't know when they will arrive, or if they are already there.

There does appear to be some disagreement about the criminal record she posted. He's a minor, so that should not be public in the first place.
I just want to be able to know the whole truth about what happened before. Anyway, I'll keep looking.

PLurker, Kenosha is my hometown. This has been an exhausting week for me as ground zero is the neighborhood I grew up in and my sibling lives in the middle of it. I have lost sleep and struggled to concentrate. My friends owned the office furniture store on 60th Street that was destroyed. The uptown and downtown areas have suffered so much damage. People have suffered so much damage. Jacob Blake didn’t deserve to be shot in the back and my friends don’t deserve to loose their livelihoods at the hands of outsiders looking to destroy the city. If I can figure out how to share beautiful pictures of the interdenominational church service yesterday in front of the courthouse, I will. I also have seen beautiful pictures of volunteers painting murals, cleaning debris, and supporting neighbors. There was finally peace in the streets last night. I love my hometown. My hope and prayer is this causes much needed improvements in the system, people are able to heal, and relationships with neighbors will be built.

My hope and prayer is this causes much needed improvements in the system, people are able to heal, and relationships with neighbors will be built. It's awful. Mutual and virtual ((hugs)) to you. I get it. I feel the same. I'm glad college is on virtual as kid goes to UWP and while not in the center of it, still rather he not for now. I highlighted one of your words above. and. It is such a relief to read this as that is how I feel. And. Both shouldn't happen. It's exhausting and so disheartening to hear everyone have to choose a side and make one of the wrongs right. Instead of "and" there's "but" demeaning and diminishing one of the tragedies. It doesn't have to be one or the other. That's were I fail in understanding the lack of empathy. I am literally shaking right now typing this. People bully to make you take a side. How about the side of the right thing? It covers both. I hope your sibling remains safe and Kenosha and the country heals. Peace to you.

What is the presumption of innocence?
If you can find it, it is really something powerful…
If I am 17 years old, cross state lines with a firearm, because I deputized myself to wage war with Americans I believe to be insurgents, I should remain innocent of a crime until proven guilty in a court of law.
If I roam around, out of state, in violation of a curfew, while brandishing that firearm, I should still be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
If am recorded shooting and killing somebody in a parking lot, while out of state, in violation of curfew, I should, nonetheless, remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
If I stand over the dying victim, take out my phone, call somebody, and say “I just shot somebody”, and then flee, I am supposed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
If, while fleeing, I shoot and kill witnesses and bystanders who are trying to apprehend me, I am still innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
If I walk by a literal small platoon of police officers in armored vehicles while brandishing the very firearm I used to kill a man, I should still be innocent until proven guilty.
If I am allowed to walk past those same officers, pointing them to the people I just shot, while those same people screams out “he just shot a bunch of people,” I should be innocent until proven guilty.
The presumption of innocence is elusive for a black man like me. Some of us find it under a uniform, wealth, or notoriety, but this is fleeting. I dream of finding it, harnessing it, and trapping it. Never allowing it escape.
If I enjoyed that presumption, I imagine what I could do, wear, and brandish comfortably in public… the comfort I could feel during a police encounter. I could even cloak my wife and children in it.
I found it though! That presumption was hiding right under Kyle Rittenhouse’s skin. I just want to know if I can have some too?
Until I can find it, I will have to keep working to constantly prove or convince the world that I, too, am not dangerous, not threatening, and innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

There was a news conference today.
The question was asked about the mom driving him. The official didn't know the answer to that question.

Even if she didn’t drive him there she raised a human being capable of what he did. It would seem a huge part of the ending racism starts with how white men are raised.
