Not having read the book, I went into it blind (though the title provides a clue) and watched the first two episodes last night. I'm going to rewatch and listen to the accompanying podcast because because I feel like I missed some details.
I highly recommend it, at least based on the first two episodes. The cast is wonderful, music is used to great effect and they are skilled at building tension.
The storyline combines the racism of the Jim Crow 1950's (that is still with us today) and Lovecraftian horror. I hope the fact that Jordan Peele is an executive producer keeps it on track because JJ Abrams is another producer and he tends to drop threads without explanation and meander elsewhere.
If you watched it, what did you think?
ETA Warning: the depiction of racism is explicit and unflinching so bear that in mind when deciding whether to watch it.

we've only seen the first episode but we like it so far! i was uncomfortable with the racism they experienced and some scenes were hard to get through. that scene of them getting pulled over and then racing the sunset to get to the county line......geez.
i have episode 2 recorded. i need to catch up before #3 comes out.

I also found it really educational, surprisingly. really felt their fear as they tried to beat sundown, only to end up in another sundown county. :/ i had no idea about that, and I appreciated that aspect of it too. Loved the cast! Haven’t seen the second episode yet, but will tonight.

I was going to start watching it last night but like papersilly mentioned I thought I would be uncomfortable with the racism so I moved on to something else.

Yes, it *is* uncomfortable and confronting, but it should be. I watched it not knowing about that aspect, but I thought it was done appropriately, where you really felt it.

I believe that comparing the monstrosity of humans to actual monsters is at the heart of the series. It is definitely uncomfortable and I know that not everyone has the emotional space for viewing it right now, especially with the continuing injustices and murders in the U.S. I will go back and put a warning in my original post.

The second episode had me confused about a few things. I will watch it again before I watch episode three.
Typically, with HBO shows that are multi-layered, I have to wait and see if I’m going to enjoy it. Usually takes a few episodes, so I’m on the fence currently.
