We have about 24 girls and a coach for the football cheer team. What are your go to/favorite pregame meal ideas? The 2 times I’ve participles it was pizza once and the last time I got Chic Fil A to donate their meals. This week is a last minute game, so that isn’t possible. It’ll be me and 2 other moms.

We do team meals the night before home gymnastics meets. Parents sign up to bring main dish, sides, desserts, or drinks. Meals we've had have been taco bar, potato bar, spaghetti, and homemade mac-n-cheese. Eta: the girls love salad with ranch dressing and better than sex cake . Oh, and chicken alfredo is a huge hit.

Big hit here was always taco/nacho bars (make your own tacos or nachos: provide taco shells and chips, and all the fixings). We also made sure to have a big green salad for taco salads too. Easy, relatively inexpensive and easy to divide the grocery list between 2-3 people.

-any kind of pasta is popular and easy to make in bulk or have catered -sandwiches, either catered or build yourself; platters of small sandwiches work well -taco bar -pulled pork sandwiches made in crockpot -barbecue -grilled burgers & hot dogs if you've got access to a grill
Costco for fruit, veggie plates, chips, drinks, and packaged snacks. The veggie plates never got touched by our team, and grapes and strawberries did better than other fruits. Individual packages of chips and snacks helped with portion control.

Oh my! I have three daughters and I can barely keep up with keeping food stocked! I can't imagine feeding 24 girls! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) Good luck to you! At least it's "pre'game", so they probably can't eat too much or they will be too full to cheer. Lots of great ideas here, so now I am hungry. Have fun!
My daughter is on her high school pom pom squad and they aren't allowed to perform at football games this year. So sad as this is her senior year and she is captain.

My sister ordered pepperoni rolls from the Italian specialty store and added a bottled drink, piece of fruit & pretzels for my nephews golf team. They all had to be packed individually per person because of Covid. I think she mentioned chic fil a also for the next one. The restaurant will individually pack each one.

How are you accomplishing this with COVID??? We are back in school. The game will be parents of athletes only. Masks required. Lots of places are back in school but kids aren’t allowed to congregate in a large group. I also know that a lot of places aren’t even doing buffet’s anymore because of the possibility of shared utensils. My question isn’t how are you doing this as far as the game, my question is how are you serving dinner to a large group, keeping them separate, and making sure everyone is safe?

I'm in Southern California and they've been showing high school football from other states on cable (South Dakota? Michigan? Ohio?). I think i saw 4 games this weekend and only the last game had cheerleaders - but parents all sitting together is apparently A-OK. Our football season might be held in January/February. If so, cheer will definitely be there. But then it will conflict with cheer competition season, so who knows? As far as snack ideas - something that can be easily packaged is a good idea. Or, whatever food is served can be wrapped/package. Like wrapping a hot/cooked burger in foil (just bun and meat), and providing little bags with condiments separately. Those wrapped burgers keep warm pretty well in an empty ice chest.

I also have a college senior on her dance team, and as of now, the ACC is only allowing essential football personel on the field, so no performing for her. Maybe they will allow dance and cheer later in the season. As for high school, we will be very upset if they allow spectators in the stands (parents), but not the poms and band, who are actually part of the school and deserve to be there along with the football team. I was hoping they would play in the spring, but no, the football people won as always so fall football and no band.

I was the team mom for football all four years and participated/was in charge of theatre meals for 6 years. We fed as many as 160, but I never had to have them packaged up into individual meals.
If you are looking for specifics on managing team meals, the search feature should bring some past threads up.
As for meals themselves, we usually did a theme night. Because we served so many, we had vegetarian, dairy free, and sometimes gluten free options. We always had a fresh salad bar which was very popular. By far, “bar” style service was preferred so that kids could choose what they wanted to eat and assemble their own meals. However, this won’t be an option if they are having prepackaged meals. Be aware of any food allergies (ask if it will send them to the hospital to differentiate between true allergies and just dislikes. We always had those with true allergies go through the line first to avoid cross contamination. Also, be aware that Muslims don’t eat pork and Hindus don’t eat beef, so you need another choice (so we served turkey breakfast sausage, multiple meats with tacos, etc,
Meals: -Pasta with white sauce, cheese sauce, and red sauce -Taco night with beef, pork, and chicken, hard shells, soft shells and all the fixings -Soup and baked potato night—broccoli cheese soup and baked potato soups were a big favorite -Pizza or Chick Fil A night—the kids could choose which one they wanted -Picnic night—fried chicken from a fast food restaurant with various pasta salads, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, etc -Sandwich night—subs, pulled pork, sloppy joes, etc -Breakfast for dinner—pancakes, bacon, sausage, breakfast casseroles, scrambled eggs, frittatas, fresh fruit, yogurt bar, ... don’t attempt to make pancakes on site with electric griddles. The outlets are generally connected in a given area and multiple griddles draw too much power and trip the breakers

When my DD was on the varsity Pom squad, they liked pasta best. chick fil a was too greasy for them, and with the dancing they felt sick from the combo. They actually preferred post game food, so they wouldn’t feel sluggish or sick dancing. But the POM team moved and danced much more than the cheer squad did for our school. I miss those times ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg)

My guess is they will eat in the cafeteria. It’ll just be the girls. There is plenty of room for them to socially distance.

So sad as this is her senior year and she is captain. ds's gf is in the same boat, but there maybe a football season in March and basketball starts in January As for the girls, I'd think something light. Football always did their team dinners the night before because they didn't want the boys overly full for the game

We're allowed to do our weekly meal for the football team with lots of new rules--the biggest one is that we can't do a normal buffet style, even if we are doing the serving. We have to have everything packaged individually. I'm happy to buy the individual fruit cups, but one mom thinks that's too expensive so she's buying a large can and filling individual cups...ok, whatever, but my leftovers will last until the next meal, but not yours. We have to do bottled water instead of water coolers with cups.
We're doing one of the boys' favorite meals--walking tacos--this week. Not a good idea in my mind. We have to have everything individually packaged...sour cream, jalapenos, salsa, tomatoes, etc. I'm not even sure how we're going to do the walking tacos themselves because the same mom is insisting we still buy the big bags of tortillas and use boats. Then there's the meat and the cheeses sauce. I get she's trying to be frugal, but she's going to burn herself out (at least she's the one offering to package everything...)
Other meals we've done include sub sandwiches, pasta night, pizza, grilled burgers/dogs, soups, etc.

I'm getting ready to talk to the other mom helping with this week's meal. I know they did a lot of pizzas and chicken tenders last year and the girls got burnt out on them.
Some great ideas here. Thank you.
