Have you ever been scrapbooking and you just had a "Wow!" or a "Dohhhhhhh!" moment? Like the lights just turned on in your brain? I usually don't like scrapbooking Christmas, and I wasn't sure why. I had chalked it up to the weird yellow color of the photos from the tree lights, or the fact that nobody looks good at 5 am in the morning...but I was bound and determined to get these pics done before Christmas 2020. Last night I was working on Christmas layouts from 2011 and I made one of my favorite Christmas layouts I have ever made. I was trying to figure out why I liked this one soooooo much better, when it hit me. It was the colors! I don't like traditional Christmas colors!! Or, it seems, traditional Christmas scrapbooking paper or supplies! Santa Clauses creep me out, (not gnomes though!) Sickly sweet paper with everything cozy in red, green and white looks ugly to me, I could go on and on. Give me blue! Give me snowflakes! Give me gnomes! So I decided I am going to Konmari my "traditional" Christmas supplies and do a RAK when I am done. If you like traditional Christmas, watch this thread as I will update it to RAK status when I am done, and just ship all that away...clean slate! Have you ever found out something about yourself when you were scrapbooking? Here is my LO (8x8)

Your page is beautiful! My brother's wife does all her Christmas decorating in whites and pastel shades of pink, purple, and blue. Your layout reminds me of her house

your layout is beautiful and perfect colours with your photo.
I love traditional red/green Christmas and struggle to use the blue/snow/sweaters/hot cocoa papers but I suspect that's partly due to my decor being more traditionally coloured and the lack of snow/winter weather here
I've learned that I need to buy less emebellishments because I'm a minimalist embellishment wise when scrapping and all the stickers/die cuts/chipboard etc...looks lovely in the store but barely gets used

I love your layout! Beautiful and serene, with a pop of whimsy! I’ve always been drawn to the more funky color schemes that include yellow, blues, purples or pinks. My Minds Eye Sugar Plum was one of my favorites! Fancy Pants has had some great non-traditional color palettes, too. I’m from San Diego. We don’t have cold Christmases, like ever. So not using traditional colors just feels natural to me. After you’ve RAK’d your traditional stuff, are you going to buy something new to replace it? ETA: For the longest time, I didn’t scrapbook Christmas either. The first pages I did, I didn’t use holiday papers or embellishments. You could replace the holiday photos with any other photos and they would fit in the LO just as well. It wasn’t until the Christmas in June (July?) weeklong challenges here on 2peas that I scrapbooked my first Christmas layout using Christmas supplies. I had never thought of doing that before!!! I had only ever used it for making Christmas cards.

Use what you like! I associate blues and whites as Winter. Those are for snow pages. I even have my Winter and Christmas papers separated. I actually do like the traditional green and red. I prefer mostly red and white, some black, and a tiny bit of green. I do like Santas but I'm picky. I'm not a big fan of the skinny and square Santas (umm. what Bella Blvd.?) I've seen this year.

About 3 years ago, I bought a bunch of sticker sheets because they were on sale for $1.00; 12x12 size! I really do like them, but I am not using them up fast enough.

I'm picky about Santa's also - I prefer the European style Father Christmas but I'm okay with a traditional American jolly old St Nick as well but I don't care for the more modern or stylized versions

Beautiful and serene, with a pop of whimsy! Thank you Ryann! I now have a scrapbook style! If anyone ever asks me, "Hey, what's your scrapbooking style?" I will say, "Beautiful and serene with a pop of whimsy!" Not that anyone would ever ask me that, but hey, you never know. I am in MN, so all the snow and cocoa etc...paper is great for me. Funny, my mom is in Carlsbad, and she LOVES all the snow paper. You can take the girl out of MN, but you can't take MN out of the girl I guess...lol.

I have always associated blue with the holiday season. If the tree was my job to put up it had all blue lights. Blue tinsel snowflakes too. Besides a significant number of trees Used for holiday trees are blue green rather than bright green. Bright green is for grass & leaves & spring & summer & maybe September. Then the bright colors of fall then the cool tones of winter. The barren forest trunks are A cool toned purple brown. And snow is all blue/purple in the shadows so winter holidays are all blue/purple ish in my head.
Red is September and October in my brain. Apples & barns & red orange sunsets.
Your layout is great, I’m glad you like it & you found yourself

I still like the snowy paper, but it's harder to use in CA! I made a layout last month that has a winter sticker sneeze. The weather app was confused and predicted snow at my house a few years ago. Like that would ever happen! I figured it was good excuse to get some (non traditional colors!) snowflakes used up.

This thread is great for inspiration and a closer look at Christmas! with Santa preferences! I rarely use a Santa, but lean towards coca-cola santa too. I too dislike too much red/green. I almost always reach for a white background so that it doesn't feel as heavy, and I almost always add teal or blue somewhere to lessen the red/green! @ryannmarie - beautiful layout!

I have my huge Christmas scrappy hoard split between blue/white/silver and red/green/gold. Most of my holiday scrapping can be done from either collection. My walls & furniture are blue; carpet is grey; tree lights are blue, the tinsel silver. Table cloth and table centres and are red/green gold. I have a collection of Santa's (most of whom sport traditional red with an ivory and blue guy thrown in) and a bunch of snowmen ornaments. Look out the window and all you will see is snow... I have some Kaisercraft very pretty pink and purple papers, but I use those for cards rather than pages.

I like traditional red and green, as well as the sugar plum colors for Christmas! I also did a layout just with gold and white and just a pop of red. I keep my blues and snowflakes for skiing/snow photos. I’m from California, so I don’t associate snow with Christmas at all!

I mentioned on another thread that I got the KP Kit last year because I loved the bright colors and the perfect shade of purple in it. I also loved the Doodlebug Winter Wonderland collection last year that was more purple and blue. www.scrapbook.com/store/db-6544.htmlI am definitely not a traditional red and green Christmas kinda gal. I live in Phoenix so I don’t have a big use for snowflakes and penguins and snowmen, but I love snowmen and I love purple so I’ll make it work!

I don't like traditional Christmas colors!! Or, it seems, traditional Christmas scrapbooking paper or supplies! 100% this. I have been scrapbooking for a very long time and this was exactly the reason that I had only done maybe two Christmas layouts in about 15 or 16 years. Turns out (and I might add, this is something that I have known since I was a young kid) that I do not do traditional Christmas colours, like at all. I have always loved white trees with pinks, purples and silver and can not stand red, green and gold together. I also live in Australia so no snow and it was hard to get non traditional colours and patterns without a snow theme. Things are so much easier to find these days and a lot of companies now offer a huge array of different colour schemes and styles for Christmas, also who says you need to use "Christmas" themed pattern paper? I have been using all kinds of different b side patterns and even Christmas wrapping paper in my pocket page albums. Some photos I can not escape the red, green and gold, usually they are the kids Santa photos but everything else is a heavy on the pink, cute/kitschy, sparkly and girly.

Do any of you remember Basic Grey's Blitzen collection with all the blue in it? I loved that collection so much! Yes! I used up most of it - the snowmen, and the stripe that was in it was my favourite, I used it to the last bitty scrap. The only papers I have left from it are the ornate "scrolly" ones that are green. I have my BG Christmas pps separate from my other Christmas stash. I have my huge Christmas scrappy hoard split between blue/white/silver and red/green/gold. Hm.. That makes me think about my stash differently! I have mine split into "white base" and "cream base". Maybe I should split into "blue" "no blue" collections My fave collection of recent years was the Pink Paislee "together for Christmas" with the navy AND light blues. However, it's colour intense so I still struggled to use it.

I like traditional Christmas colors and non traditional. I adore the pink prima lines the past 2 years. I have a mishmash of papers I used to scrap Christmas in 2019, and here are 2 where tan was the primary color. Then there is a pink one where I used the pink wrapping paper from dgd's first Christmas gifts. Her gifts are seen in the photos wrapped under the tree. I do love using winter blues, silvers, etc but I will use anything I have on hand.
