they are willing to sell? The retail price is $24.95, but they are out of stock. I'd even be willing to return it after I link my cartridges.

I had the same dilemma last month. I ended up getting the Explore instead of the Maker because I have a lot of unlinked cartridges. And I mostly cut paper. Could you borrow a friend’s Explore? You could use it to link cartridges to your account. Or are machines only linked to one account?

I don't know anyone with an Explore. Does it use cartridges? I was happy enough with my expression, but my DD gave me her Maker because she is getting a scan n cut instead. I thought it would be easy enough to link. I was wrong.

The Explore doesn't use cartridges the way the Expression did, where they have to be in the port to be used. The Explore has a port for the sole purpose of linking your cartridge forever to your account, and then you can use the images from your cartridge in a Design Space project.
I liked some of the features of the Cricut Craft room and I was dismayed when it went away.
