We love her in the haafu Japanese community as one of them (us). I am just a mom but she is Haafu Japanese AND Black Lives matter. We just think she’s wonderful.

And she's a damn good player. But in listening to the commentary by Chris Evert while watching her play, sadly I also learned that there is a deep culture of racism in Japan against mixed race citizens, to the point she didn't take her Haitian father's last name, but her mother's instead, who is Japanese.
