I’m purging inks and have a drawer full of old pigment inks that I haven’t used in years. So when is the last time you used pigment ink and what where you making?

I use pigment inks when I want to emboss, or when I need heavy, opaque coverage on something. I don't use them very often, but I have some beautiful VersaColor cubes that I sometimes use with my Gina K Wreath Builder stamp set.

I only have a few little cats eye ones that I use because I don't have those colors in other inks. But I never had more than a handful of pigment inks.
I would like to buy a good white though.

Black is the only one I use regularly, though I do have quite a few of the old Amuse pigment inks. Not ready to get rid of them yet though!

I would like to buy a good white though. I bought one that was recommended by Jennifer McGuire - the Hero Arts Unicorn ink but am still not that happy with it. It's very gluggy.

Yes, I forgot about the white one! I use that one the most. Since JoAnn doesn't make their own inks anymore (at least not that I know of), I can't get their brand of white pigment ink. That was the best one I've ever used. I did buy the Scrapbook.com white pigment pad, but I haven't tried it yet. I'll be using it soon for my Christmas cards.

I'm a stamping newbie, and I've been looking at YouTube videos and researching what the best inks are for various uses. At this time I'm mostly interested in black ink for sentiments on cardstock and vellum; and black, white and gray inks for outlines to color in with copic markers.
I'm interested in knowing why you all are discussing throwing out pigment inks? I thought they would be a good thing for specific uses.
It's really so confusing watching all the different videos with some contradicting others on favorite inks.
If anyone knows of a really great resource for learning what the best inks are, please share. I want to make informed choices. Thanks!

I find the newer inks perform better, some are embossable or copic/watercolor friendly too. If starting over I would only buy pigment inks in black, white, christmas red/green. I’ve had mine 15+ years. They just sit in the drawer, but the colors are unusual so I hesitate to toss them. All my cat eye ones the pads fell apart.

Here is a very helpful video by Jennifer McGuire that explains everything about inks: youtu.be/BTfajhSHw3oA lot of brands use the same manufacturer and formula, I believe Jennifer talks about that but it's been a few years since I've watched that particular video. She may talk about it in one of her annual "favorites" videos, like this one: youtu.be/muE3mTaqhe8She has the "favorites' videos in different categories going back to 2013, FYI - inks, paper, tools, stamps, dies, etc. Regarding the OP's question, I have the Ali Edward's pigment inks - I bought them for using on my photos because pigment ink is archival. I ended up buying some Ranger Archival ink cubes a few years later and prefer those now, but I do use the pigment inks occasionally for the colours.

Oh my gosh, thank you for asking this! I asked something similar in a post and I didn't quite get the information I was needing. I am relatively new to stamping but I have been creating a lot so I've been using all kinds of techniques. Are pigment inks different enough from Oxides (since they have a hybrid pigment quality), to warrant bothering with or will I be fine with my Oxides for most pigment ink needs? I have MFT white pigment ink, a hybrid ink pad for alcohol pens, and plenty of the Oxides, but I really don't know if I will get much use out of the pigments and they are fairly expensive not to use. I've watched Jennifer McGuire's video on the differences, and some others so I know what they do, I just don't know how much more useful they would be from my Oxides. I believe she said in a video I watched a while ago that she doesn't even have pigments inks anymore... maybe I misheard it though.

I'm not much of a stamper, but I reach for them when I heat emboss.

I prefer pigment inks aside from black. I use the VersaFine onyx black because it really is the best (in my experience). I have tons of inks though and do use some dye inks, oxides, etc. I like that most pigment ink doesn’t stain my stamps too-haha.

You've just reminded me that I have some tucked away. I used to use them all the time. I'm going to dig them out.

I use my pigment inks for glossy card stock and vellum, mainly for brayering backgrounds. I just set the projects aside to dry when I finish stamping.

The only pigment ink I use is versafine Claire for sentiments or watercoloring when I emboss it. You can’t use it for copics. I use Gina k amalgam obsidian black for stamping images, I use my altenew and pinkfresh for layering stamps, my Catherine pooler minis for crisp sentiments, my taylored expressions when I want to match my ink to cardstock, and my oxides for ink blending. Most of my inks are minis except the oxides, the versafine, and pinkfresh.

I use pigment inks when I want to stamp in my planner. It doesn’t bleed into the paper the way dye inks do.
