UPDATE 9/23/2020 Thanks for all of your comments! Today I bought the Brother Scan n Cut CM650WX from an authorized Brother dealer which turned out to be my local sewing store. I was looking to get an entry level model but they only had the spendy Disney Edition ($799 eeeks!) available for those who pre ordered. Turns out one of those Disney ladies traded in her 650WX for the Disney machine so I bought it! The machine was barely used and had all the original boxing and accessories. I wound up paying the same as I would have for the latest bar model but this one had a bit more features. When I was registering the machine, the Brother rep said their machines are in very short supply because of the pandemic and everyone buying them up while they're all stuck at home.
I've never used the Cricut Design Studio. I have rectangular images scanned onto an 8 1/2x11 sheet of paper. I want to cut those rectangles out. Can that sheet be uploaded to Design Studio then cut out with a Cricut Maker or Explore? I need to cut many many sheets with 5 rectangles power sheet. That's why I want to just use a Cricut.
ETA: I guess I mean design space since it's for a newer Cricut machine.

Just checking-do you mean Design Studio or Design Space/whatever online program Provo Craft is doing now?
I have Design Studio (the one where I have a CD) and an Expression. I don't think anything can really uploaded to it.

I have two Expressions and I know nothing can be uploaded to them and that's why I'm considering a Maker and using Design Space.

Gotcha. Someone more technically advanced than I am will have to chime in, I'm still chugging away with the expression.

Are there images in these rectangles? If so you might have to scan each image separatly to import into Design Space. There will be an Upload button on the left hand side of Design Space after you click New Project.

I haven’t used my Cricut for awhile, but most electronic cutters allow you to make basic shapes like rectangles in the sizes you want.
Since you would have to buy the Explore, you might want to consider a Cameo. To do this would be so easy with the Silhouette Cameo.
The Explore is a great machine. Design Space, however, is not that great.

You can scan the image and save it as a PNG file. I think that is the file type that will let you import for print then cut. I actually find Design Space much easier to use than Silhouette Studio, especially for print then cut. If you could give some more details about what you want to do, and what types of images you have, maybe I can help a little more. You can PM me if you prefer. I hope this has helped.
ETA: After reading the OP again, it looks like you just want to cut the images out, not print them as well. If you want to do that, you can still scan the page and just cut the images. I think you can save as a JPEG or PNG. Like someone else said, you can just draw and cut out simple rectangles without scanning anything. You can even do that with your Expression, if you have a catridge that has basic shapes.

i did some more research and i think the Brother Cut n Scan will be the machine best suited for my needs. all i need is scanning and cutting. from what i understand, the Brother does not need to be connected to a computer. It will scan my printed images and cut around the borders. that's exactly what i need done.

Yes, the Scan n Cut will do a great job for that, as long as there is no break in the line you want cut.

I'm glad you found something you will most likely like! Design Space right now is acting up big time! The new Apple update has messaged up access to fonts on Macs, ipads and iphones. Cricut has to issue an update once they figure out how to fix this. And well it's been doing other weird things. Frankly I worry about what tech team they currently have.
