when I had my first kid (45 yrs ago) I was doing everything super organic-y. The one thing that I wanted the most was a blender to make my own baby foods.

When my ds was a baby, we had a kit that had tools to peel and core fruit and veggies. It also had tools to blend or purée the food. Baking and microwave instructions to prep the food both before and after. There were ice cube trays to freeze food. I could make a bunch of sweet potato cubes and applesauce cubes (for example). I’d pop a cube or two out and defrost it or heat it up and he loved it.
I wasn’t a hipster mom. This made more sense for us so my kid could eat the same foods we ate. We’d have green beans for dinner, so did he. We had sweet potatoes with dinner, so did he. We’d have tacos and he’d eat avocado, cheese, and beans. Black beans were probably his favorite food from age 1 until he was 3 or 4 years old. He’s now moved on to refried beans.
Some of those kits seem like a pain, but the one I used was a quick easy “cookbook” with some prep tools and ice cube trays to store food. Something like that may be helpful, especially if the baby is still little and they aren’t really thinking about solid foods yet.
A kit with a thermometer, Children’s Tylenol and/or Motrin, ear drops, drops for gas pains, stuff like that are also helpful. Those are things you don’t think of until you need them. So much easier having them in the closet and not having to run to the nearest drug store.
