Yes. That's precisely what Letitia James is investigating. Stay tuned. This is what my brain was thinking of when I typed. My first response! Thank you!!!! Yes’m. That’s not all because it’s the same with Cy Vance. If you recall, he’s relentlessly pursuing Trump’s returns and financial records from Mazars. All the way to the Supreme Court, right? Since grand jury investigations are secret and no one in the public and media really knew the scope, when reporting first came out, it was only about possible fraud in the booking of the hush money to Stormy Daniels. Which is really small potatoes in the grand scheme of crimes, so why fight all the way to the SC? Well, as expected, even though the SC had ruled that Trump had no immunity, his lawyers again appealed because the SC had remanded the case back to district court. It was during this second fight in district court that it became apparent Vance is investigating possible insurance and bank fraud – Trump inflating his net worth and property values to lenders and insurers. THAT is the big deal, not the falsified booking of the hush money, and that’s why it made sense to go all the way to the SC. Give it some more time and Vance's case might end up including tax fraud as well. This is just speculation on my part. IF Donald and his many LLCs had defrauded the IRS (per my earlier post, the dubious practices detailed by NYT), it follows that he defrauded the State of New York, too, because the base claims and figures for a federal filing are the same base claims and figures used in state filing. Note that he is still being audited so we do not know what the findings will be. If there is indeed fraud, there really is no defense for knowingly lying on a federal tax form because the jurat on the form itself clearly states (bolding mine): “Under penalties of perjury, I declare that I have examined this return and accompanying schedules and statements, and to the best of my knowledge and belief, they are true, correct, and complete.” So you cannot even say, “I’m not guilty of anything because it’s my accountant who does my taxes.” Yeah, girlfriend, it ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sings.

lizacreates and twinsmomfla99 : Thank you for your smarty pants contributions. My knowledge of money and taxes is limited to spending and paying, so your explanations help. Kind as always. It’s disturbing, isn’t it? I mean, revelations like these should not come as a surprise anymore, but somehow I’m still stunned by some of them.
There’s something that stuck in my head from before and I can no longer recall who said it, but it was in the context of how Donald, through his accountants, manipulates tax statutes. Something like: Whatever loophole there was, was not just exploited, but stretched beyond any recognition. (bold mine) Sing it. The Astonishment section of my brain and the Well, Of Course section of my brain get frequent simultaneous workouts these days. Strange bedfellows. The Gobsmacked section was busy the last few years but seems to have been phased out. So passé.

It seems that his figures are different from one side of the pond to the other too President Donald Trump appears to have inflated the value of his three golf resorts in Scotland and Ireland in documents filed with the U.S. government, according to a new examination of six years of financial records in the U.S. and Europe. And the group behind the finding wants the discrepancy investigated as part of a sprawling government probe into the Trump Organization‘s finances.
Trump claimed the resorts — Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen and Trump Turnberry, both in Scotland, and Trump Doonbeg in Ireland — brought in a total of about $179 million in revenue on U.S. documents where he is supposed to list his personal income. Records in the United Kingdom and Ireland indicate the resorts‘ revenues were millions of dollars less — about $152 million — and show they actually lost $77 million after accounting for expenses.
Trump claimed the Scottish resorts alone were worth at least $100 million total in 2018 on U.S. documents, but the U.K. records indicate that the resorts aren’t worth anywhere near that because the debts exceeded the assets by about $80 million that year.

I've said before how all this feels identical to the Watergate times. And now we have the NYT story that may start more balls rolling faster and faster. Good old Daniel Ellsberg source style! Tax returns instead of Pentagon Papers. But, ahh, remember, we had to go into a second Nixon term before it came to an end. (((shiver)))

The Apprentice? Or The Biggest Loser? "Donald Trump's seemingly immovable approval numbers are a testament, above all other things, to the power of racism, and the way that 40 to 42% of Americans will stand by their man, no matter how bad things get, so long as he keeps hating the same people they hate. But that legendary floor of his — he has almost never dropped below 40%, or risen above 45% — is also a testament to the power of narrative fiction, especially of the televised variety. During the 2016 Republican primary, polling showed that Trump supporters were bamboozled by "The Apprentice," mistaking the fictional Trump of the "reality" TV show for the real Trump, a repeated business failure with a series of bankruptcies under his belt. To this day, about half of Americans still believe that Trump is a competent steward of the American economy, despite the worst downturn since the Great Depression, because they mistook a character he played on TV for the real thing. Trump has boosted this lie about his business acumen by concealing decades of his tax returns so that he could claim to be a successful billionaire without being fact-checked by his own accountants. I think that there are plenty who support him who want to do the same things he does business and tax wise. Corporations don’t want to pay huge (fair) taxes. (I just looked at hubby’s check stub for something and 1/3 of his gross is taxes—I wish we had loopholes, and last year was the first that we cannot deduct any of his work related expenses causing us to pay more) Businesses want every tax loophole they can get, and have accountants and lawyers that find those for them (very much unlike s “regular person”)

And let me just say, I started coloring my own hair years ago, because I hated paying $200-250 every 6 months for highlights and a cut.
Donald Trump apparently spends $5833.33 PER MONTH on hair styling. More than 2 times our monthly mortgage payment. In hair stylist fees.
He sucks as a businessman. And at how to set a reasonable, or even lavish, budget.

I hope he goes to jail so we get to see how gross he is for real. Imagine spending that much to look that awful.

It's interesting that Michael Cohen was on tv this morning saying that Trump always does his own hair and makeup because he doesn't want anyone to know his styling secrets. So, he was curious to know who he supposedly paid that money to.

He sucks as a businessman. And at how to set a reasonable, or even lavish, budget. he always has-- early on (in the 1990s, maybe??) when he was still getting loans from banks, they had to put him on a budget that was some ridiculously huge number, and he couldn't stick to even that. Wall Street Journal story Trump and His Debts- a Narrow Escape, excerpted part here: "By the late 1980s, Mr. Trump’s holdings included three casinos, the Plaza hotel in New York, the Trump Tower nearby and the Trump Shuttle airline. When a recession struck in 1990, he was buried in debt. “I watched my empire collapsing,” he later wrote. His first salvage move was to reach a debt restructuring agreement with a large group of lenders. It nearly fell through when a creditor abroad balked. Summoned to Citibank offices late one rainy night to telephone the holdout, Mr. Trump arrived “so down he was almost crying,” says banker Robert McSween. But on the phone, his charisma kicked in. “He went to the pinnacle of total confidence in 10 minutes. He’s telling them it’s going to be great, we’re going to make it happen,” Mr. McSween recalls. After persuading the holdout, Mr. Trump hung up and jokingly asked the bankers, “How’d I do?” The agreement gave Mr. Trump five years to work out the debt. The banks granted him a $65 million line of credit to keep things going but limited him to $450,000 a month for personal and household expenses."

What the heck. The other day I was watching him BS-ing about something and I noticed how much browner his face was. More so than usual. I mean, really brown, not orange. At this rate, his face will be darker than mine by the end of the year! (Which then reminded me of my perpetual bafflement as to why people like him who are biased against darker-skinned individuals tan themselves.)
