Thanks for answering a question I had about how many stamp sets SSS makes for each design! I never thought they would make more of what they they think will be poplar but that makes sense. I noticed TH cats didn’t sell out very fast but I’m sure the $29.00 price tag had a lot to do with it. I thought it was very cute and funny but price stopped me from buying it. Thanks again!

Interesting. I know that at 6am the next day after the release, SSS was showing that either the with or without dies set was available. (I don’t remember which one.) I remember that I was surprised that it didn’t all sell out the same day as the release. Yes! In fact, I am insanely curious about the inner workings of Stamptember (blame it on all my years working retail), so I actually checked the stock level of the Tim Holtz stamp set when it went live. (At SSS, you can input a number into the quantity box and once you've exceeded the on hand amount, there will be a pop up saying "only XXXX in stock.") At/around midnight, there were 9,703 Tim Holtz stamp sets in stock. In comparison, the Lawn Fawn stamp/die set from earlier in the month had 1173 in stock and most of the other stamp sets had anywhere from (about) 200-500 in stock. (Like I said, I'm a retail nerd.) (On a sidenote, the TH stamp set was $29.99...which means that SSS made $290,992 on that stamp set alone...over a quarter of a million dollars!!!! Of course it's not pure profit, there's manufacturing, warehousing and shipping costs, paying Tim Holtz, plus the design team and doing marketing, etc, but it's still a pretty staggering amount for our lil old hobby! Just goes to show the enormous popularity of Tim.) Love it (the retail nerd side). I used to work in a catalog department when I was in high school and college. I can remember my employee number and the number we had to use for our store when we called into Master Card or Visa to get an approval when someone wanted to use a credit card. Ha. Can you imagine having to call in for approval for that now? I usually took a good 3 minutes to go through the numbers needed and the approval. My favorite days were shipment days and my manager would put me in the back to empty to pods of merchandise because I could remember all 55 categories of merchandise. Good times. This was in the 80's.

For anyone who missed out on any of the Stamptember items, (or like me, doesn’t live in the US and can’t afford the extortionate shipping & customs additions), you might be interested to know that Ali Express has all the "exclusives" available.
I know a lot of people refuse to buy from AE on principle, but this situation is a bit different. As all of the sets were limited editions unavailable elsewhere, the original manufacturers aren’t really losing out. Once I add in SSS's shipping etc, I’m finding the AE stamps and dies are around 80% cheaper.

I do think it sucks that ali express has them and sells them for cheaper. They aren't the same quality and basically someone stole the designs to make them and sell cheaper.

I know it had a “3” in it, but can’t remember if it was 36 hours or 3 days. 😂😂😂 It was 36 hours. There were at least a few discussions about it in the TH group.

I have found that the quality is usually identical. I have bought the occasional die that has been smaller than the original, but that was my own fault for not checking the dimensions first. And to be honest, it’s a risk I’m willing to take. I don’t remember how much the Tim Holtz set was on SSS, but let’s say $40. $15 shipping on that, plus customs at 20% plus a handling fee from the Post Office of £8. That comes to roughly £58. I bought the stamps and dies from AE for just over £5. Including shipping. Now maybe if SSS had a UK distributor, I would buy the originals from them, but they have never shown any interest in doing that. Anyway, I don’t want to start the perennial debate about AE! I just wanted to let those Peas who were disappointed to miss the exclusive sets know that there was another way to get them.

I've never ordered from AE but I have bought the standard shaped dies on Amazon. They're all top quality. Better than the expensive name brands when it comes to be pre-finished too. I don't know why, but I'm wary of buying from AE. Probably just another place that gets my CC#. But I would buy from them if an 'exclusive' was sold out w/no hope of the maker making it again.

I've bought some stamp sets on Aliexpress and only had issues with one image. I honestly don't know if they were copied from another company. There are a lot of stamp companies out there and they mostly cater exclusively to card makers. Some work for what I want in scrapbooking, but most do not. I get tired of going to several websites and finding very few that I would use.
Which is why I go to Aliexpress. I'm interested more in word images and don't mind if they are small because I do pocket scrapping. I like to look at the planner stamps too. Typically, if I find a set I like, I check out other stamps from that store and can find even more that work.
I've bought basic metal dies and they have all worked just fine. I do see a difference in the quality of the die. These are a bit more flimsy.

I think you can buy them starting this week.

I was scrolling facebook yesterday and saw in one of the buy/sell/trade groups I am in someone had uploaded an album with a ton of stuff in it. I looked at the album and saw the TH set AND the mama elephant fox themed set was up for sale in her album. Brand new. Makes me wonder if there are other people out there who enjoy the rush of buying/shopping esp exclusives like stamptember than sit on the items and never use them, or turn around and destash them soon after purchase. Instead of just resisting the urge to hit buy and maybe who really wanted to use it could have bought it.

I’ve noticed several popping up on eBay for a range of prices (the TH set specifically).

I bought one of those and received it a couple days ago. I preordered the Halloween cats and got those the same day as the Christmas ones. (Separate packages though.)

I assume they were asking more than the list price, or else they would be losing money on the shipping. But if you had a shopping problem the Stamptember scarcity could be a huge trigger. That makes me sad, either way.

I purchased from them once. I wanted a 3 die set that was selling for $75 (plus tax and shipping) somewhere and I found it on AE for less than $10. I don't make a habit of supporting AE, but I refuse to spend $65 extra dollars for the same die. Brand names can be out of control sometimes. Now I will always support my LSS because I want to keep her in business and do spend extra, but 75 dollars for a die that I won't use 100 times? Nope. ETA: I made sure that the store used PayPal. You are right about CC fraud.

I have 100's of stamps and dies from AE. Most are very high quality and work perfect. Out of maybe 200 sets I'd say I had 2-3 that had a misspelled word. They are the reason I can have so many when I can't find them elsewhere!

It didn’t sell out immediately. It was available for 36 hours. I was shocked it didn’t sell out sooner. The TH Addicts page posted lots of reminders.

You wouldn't know it with all the people crying over not being able to purchase it! Lots of people regretting that they waited. Oh well, snooze you lose!
