I saw this picture from the debate last night that Pete Buttigieg posted on twitter and thought those two represent the future of the Democratic Party once we get rid of all the old folks.
Besides these two the Democrats having Cory Booker, Beta O’Rourke, Joe Kennedy III, AOC, Julian Castro & Gavin Newsom coming up the pike. A diverse group of individuals. And I’m sure there are others who’s names I can’t remember.
But who do the Republicans have once trump is gone?
I googled “up and coming Republicans “ and got who might be running for president in 2024. Three names popped up. Pence, Tom Cotton, & Nikki Haley.
Are there any real “up & coming” Republicans out there besides those three? Some that aren’t on the national stage yet?
I have to say as a Democrat I’m feeling pretty optimistic about the Party. But one thing does have to happen and that’s the progressives and moderates must learn to compromise with each other. Because if they don’t the Party will end up on the “what could have been” pile.

Fox News is so dumb, they keep inviting Buttigieg on they get schooled! I love it.

I don't know that I'd include Joe Kennedy III on the list but yeah, I agree with your point. And I think Buttigieg loves tweaking Fox's nose - and I enjoy that.

From Texas ... MJ Hegar and Lina Hidalgo (v. young but you'll hear more from her).
I think Ted Cruz thinks he's still the future of the Republican party. What's true is that guys like he and Rubio and Sasse are now the future of the hopefully doomed to failure Trump party. I hope for everyone's sake that there are some sane, principled conservatives hanging in the wings to take the GOP back over. Anyone with the stink of Trump on them is going to have a hard time going forward.

He feels very unrepresented - although he recognizes that Biden is pretty moderate when it comes to Democrats.

Nothing will change. Look what happened when there were a bazillion Democrat candidates... they eliminated everyone under 70 years old. Also, from what I've read on my local "mom" board on Facebook. Trump has "done so much for our country and is a true American," obviously the fact that he isn't able to make a coherent sentence or spell isn't important because abortion. The comments on Pence winning the debate and Kamala being condescending and smug make me want to quit humanity. I can only hope something really changes, otherwise it's the same old same old

I often hear that label - 'fiscally conservative' and it seems to be attributed to Republicans, yet everytime I see an economic graph it shows Democratic presidents seem to have the edge on most financial metrics. I wonder if this whole 'fiscally conservative' trope is outdated as far as what party it should be attributed to? Admittedly I didn't do a great deal of googling before posting but this came up: www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2012/03/obama-most-fiscally-conservative-president-in-modern-history/254658/Btw I'm not disparaging your husbands point of view...just genuinely curious about that label that I see often when people label themselves in a political way. I'm also not American so my complete understanding is limited. As I said...I'm curious to learn more.

I'm sure you're correct - I mean, Trump has been a big spender (but he doesn't care about anything - he has no real beliefs). So much of it probably doesn't end up being how much is spent but where the money is going, I suppose.

I’m 34 and have always voted democratic but I’m actually one of those “young” fiscally conservative, socially liberal voters. I don’t always like what the Democratic Party wants to do with my money, but ultimately, human rights will always win in my book because that’s what my Christian religion says.

When you look at who ran for president in the Democratic primary in 2020 versus who ran for president in the Republican primary in 2016, it is clear which party has a future and which doesn't.

I'm also not American so my complete understanding is limited. As I said...I'm curious to learn more. A huge part of those graphs is actually the fact that presidents aren't kings. They work with Congress, and Americans in general, love to split power. It's pretty common even if one party sweeps one election for presidency, house and senate, they're almost guaranteed to lose the house the next go around. President Obama's "fiscal conservatism" was really gridlock. People have forgotten that sequestration was really a game of chicken between President Obama and Congress which neither thought would actually happen where not only domestic spending was frozen but also defense - but it was enacted and absolutely reigned in the budget. Similarly President Clinton "worked" with Gingrich where they were putting forth budgets that were more conservative. The end result was a reduction of spending. From a fiscal conservatism standpoint a republican congress and democratic president is the best combo.

Unpopular take, but I don’t care.
Fiscal conservatism isn’t really a thing. Republicans like to spend money on wars and corporate bailouts; Democrats like to spend it on domestic social programs and environmental incentives. They’re all spending money.
(Likewise, no such thing as small government. Republicans want the government to control individuals and government-funded services based on religion or who they deem “worthy” of help, and Democrats want to pass gun control and environmental regulations.)
My cynical take: many people who call themselves fiscally conservative mean that they don’t want their tax dollars spent on those they’ve deemed “lazy” or “irresponsible.” And those people are always someone else, outside of their own social circle.

Exactly that. "Small government" = "don't spend money on the poors or the browns or the blacks."

Lately it seems that it is a nice way of saying they are against any kind of social program. How the money is wasted/spent doesn’t matter as long as it isn’t going to poor people. Or god forbid, health care.

I think people need to be careful of generalizations. I think government spending is out of control but I also support social programs. And I’m black. I’ve also benefited from social programs like first time homebuyer down payment assistance due to being an educator, public service loan forgiveness, and others.
I’m sorry people don’t believe you can be against outrageous government spending and still believe in helping people, but I have many friends also in this category. This is why people get pushed away from the Democratic Party. It sucks to be told you don’t care about minorities when that can’t be further from the truth.
