I get a few monthly scrap/die/stamp kits. I’ve really pared down what I receive every month, but even with the few kits I get, every once in a while, I receive a kit that I just don’t like. I’ve also been going through my stash and trying to purge—which also means going through past kits I haven’t used yet.
For scrapbooking kits (pocket kits, 12x12, travel notebook, or whatever), what do you do with the ones that aren’t your style to that you just don’t like? Toss the whole thing? Donate it somewhere? (Where?) Split it up and add it to your stash in pieces? Keep it just in case?
I was going to try to use a foodie kit I got just over a year ago, but I realized that I’m not really a foodie, especially with a pandemic-shelter-in-place going on. I’m trying to decide if I should make a gift album for my oldest dd who is a foodie and loves to cook, separate the kit components out and assimilate it into my stash, or just get rid of it.
That got me wondering what others do with kits that aren’t their style. So, what do you do with kits that you don’t have an immediate use for or aren’t really your style?

I break it apart and put the things I will use in my stash.
It's usually just paper I don't like. That I will place either in my donate box or I keep a stash to use as a base when layering multiple papers for my background, since it will be covered entirely.

That is one of the reasons I am always leery to subscribe to kits. that an the exorbitant cost of shipping to Australia

I break it up and put the pieces I would use in my stash and then I have a donate bin for things I won’t use. Eventually I just RAK those to someone when it’s enough to ship.

This is why I don’t subscribe. I would rather use the money to buy items I know I will like and be able to use. I consider kits a great boon to the manufacturer and seller, since it gives them a chance to sell more products than they would otherwise, but if there are components in the kit that the customer doesn’t like, it’s not really a good deal for the customer.

Some of those companies have Facebook groups where you can sell the kits. There seems to be buyers looking for past or sold out kits.

If it's a kit I don't like, I usually save it for the garage sale my LSS does. If that wasn't an option, I would try to sell it on one of the FB groups.

Was it the KP foodie kit?
I tend to break up the kits. If I notice I don't like a lot of them, I unsubscribe.
I have sold some stamps through Facebook before.
I also am part of a traveling swap box that started out of the SC fiasco years ago. I throw a lot of little stuff in it.

When I’ve subscribed I have noticed they piled up and then ended up quitting. Now I’m taking those and challenging myself to use them. I have liked the majority of the pages in the end even though the papers or other product wouldn’t have been my pick.

I'm lazy, so I just give away the stuff I don't want. I like to donate to the Parks & Rec department or an elementary school down the street. If I'm taking other stuff to donate (like clothes) I'll add it to the Goodwill pile and hope it makes it to a crafter. I do keep track and if I'm not using up a kit, I end my sub. Right now I don't have any subs. I just wasn't using enough in 2020 since my base pages in this year's album is digital. Add that and not really going anywhere, I just don't have as much to scrap right now.

I pull out what I like and will use, then sell the rest either on fb or at local crops (when they start happening again).

Sitting with you on this bench. The only kit I ever purchased monthly was a Boy kit from SB Generations. I got it for about 18 months and the kit included about 5-6 sheets of paper/ephemera or stickers, so I never felt like things were going to waste. I got a sketch for the papers and maybe had a few stickers and a half sheet of paper left over. Very little waste and the kit was reasonably priced and I never received one that I couldn't use. I like the idea of a kit, but would much rather take that $40 and go to my LSS and buy twice as much that is exactly what I want with no shipping costs.

I like that I can tell the Simon Says Stamp people to skip my kit for the month when I don't care for it. I'm assuming most kits don't offer this service? I'm also gathering the bits I don't like and hoping to send them to someone who will appreciate it.
I guess I could give them away on the For Sale/or Trade board? Maybe a first come kind of thing?

There was a FB group started after the whole SC warehouse box mess, and two swap groups were created. We all had a ton of duplicates, but different people had different items, so we stuffed things into a medium flat rate priority mail box and sent it around, round robin style. The two groups eventually merged into one, and it is still going. We've added people as others have dropped out over the years.

I usually like at least the B sides of papers included in my kits. If the theme of the kit doesn't work with what I am scrapping, I put it away for awhile, but if it isn't used after a few months, I often divide everything up by colour &/or theme it WOULD work with.
If I know someone who is currently scrapping a particular time or event, and this kit fits nicely with that, then I will pass it on to them.

What to do with monthly kits you don't like?
Stop doing that.

Thanks everyone for responding!! This is pretty much what I have been doing as I go through my stash. I really like this sub overall (it’s the Cocoa Daisy pocket card sub.) This kit is from around last summer and I found it in my stash. I was trying to decide if I should try to “challenge” myself to use it or if I would be ok just getting rid of it. Luckily, it’s only been one miss out of the last year and a half—and it’s even tough to call it a miss since it’s a nice kit and I like some of the papers and some of the cards. I even used a couple of the papers in an album last summer right after I first got it. Was it the KP foodie kit? No, it was the Cocoa Daisy Farmer’s Market kit from last summer. But the new KP kit is one I’m thinking about also subbing because I usually like her stuff!
