Long story short Emily's Ipad 2 has a crack on her screen. Dh bought it in December but can't remember if he opted for the insurance. How can I find out if we have insurance on it? I assume this is not covered under warranty.
My dad is an electronic engineer and has replaced cell phone screens for my brother-in-law and sister so I know he can do it. So that was my plan but then as I was laying in bed last night I was thinking that when dh bought it he said he decided to get the insurance since it was for Emily. Do I call Best Buy and ask them?

If you think you purchased insurance through GeekSquad at Best Buy, you should call Best Buy. You will need your iPad's serial number, which should be engraved on the back of the device.
From what I can tell, their policies cover accidental damage.

Well I spent the last 20 minutes talking to someone at Geek Squad and I don't think we have it. I say "don't think" because truth be told I could not really understand the girl and was tired of asking her to repeat herself. I will probably just have my dad do it. I always wonder what the quality is like on the replacement screens though.

As far as I know, Best Buy would send the iPad back to Apple for repair. You would then receive a different iPad 2, either a new one or a refurbished one, based on what they had in stock. Refurbished/repaired iPads look exactly like new ones.
If your dad possibly bought the extended AppleCare Plus warranty from Apple (which can be included with your purchase at Best Buy), then the screen repair will be covered at no charge.
I had bought the extended Apple Care Plus warranty (or whatever it's really called) and when my 3-year-old iPad, 4 weeks away from end of extended warranty, had a bad battery, the Apple Store just handed me a new iPad.
Before you send this one back for repair, make sure to do a complete backup so you can restore when you get a replacement.

You can also call Apple's support/warranty center and ask them to check if their extended warranty was purchased for the device. They'll just need the serial number from the back of the device.
You should be able to find a phone number on the Apple website.

Unfortunately it looks like dh did not purchase the extended warranty. He purchased the anti-virus add on but not the warranty.
My options are to either pay $250 for it to be repaired through Apple or buy the replacement screens off of Amazon, etc for $20 and have my dad replace the screen. Part of me just wants to go the safe route and send it in to Apple. However, she is 11 years old so it is a bit hard to justify it, kwim?
It started with such a small crack but over the past month the crack has spread.

Why would you buy anti-virus add-on for an iPad? To the best of my knowledge, there aren't viruses that affect iOS devices...

His reasoning behind it was that she goes to all those silly game sites that end up infecting our computers and slowing them down so he thought it was needed. I have always joked with him that he is a salespersons wet dream because he is an easy sell. Except this time with the warranty!

My sister gave me her old iPad2 that had a crack in it. I used iCracked to fix it. Cost me $150 bucks. It wasn't under warranty and $150 was worth it for a brand new to me iPad.
