I have been trying to be a morning person for awhile now, with little success. lol I had been waking up early enough during the summer (but still don't feel that energetic and ready to workout right away) but now am having a harder time getting up due to it being dark in the morning. The kids are all in hybrid school now (youngest DS had been in school full-time until last week) so I am trying to get into a new routine with exercise (I had been exercising as soon as he got on the bus) and my own work. I need to get up earlier and get the workout done before getting DS up for his zoom call.
I've been looking at sunrise alarm clocks but want to hear from others how it helped (or didn't). If you have one you love, what are the features you like and what brand is it? Did it help you feel more energetic in the morning? Push snooze fewer times

I had one that a friend gave me back in the 90’s that worked great. It was actually a table lamp that had a sunrise alarm and also a sundown feature that would gradually turn it off at bedtime. It was helpful when I had a corporate job and had to get up a lot earlier than I wanted to. We put it in DD’s room when we moved in 2012, and it finally died earlier this year. Now I have a version of this clock: www.amazon.com/iHome-iBT290B-Bluetooth-Changing-Speakerphone/dp/B06Y2X4CDB/ref=sr_1_43?dchild=1&keywords=iHome+Bluetooth+alarm+clock&qid=1603201161&sr=8-43The one I have now also has a sunrise feature that gradually turns on a glowing yellow light about 15 minutes before the alarm goes off. I’m a really light sleeper so anything that makes the room brighter is going to wake me up. This type of clock works best if it is right next to your bed. They are less effective if they are placed across the room.

I just sold mine because it didn’t work for me. It didn’t slowly wake me up and I’d just turn it off when I hit snooze and go right back to sleep. Then it was just a really expensive alarm clock with annoying bird chirping sounds.
I’m a 3-snooze button pusher and it’s a bad habit but I have it built in to my morning routine. I did recently read that people who hit the snooze button feel less rested in the morning no matter how well they slept during the night because of the lack of deep cycle sleep in those nine minute intervals.
I had the Philips Wake Up Light and it would have worked if I wasn’t a lazy morning hater.

That would be great for my husband and maybe my kids too. We hate the fall so much because of all the darkness/cool weather. We can easily get up early in the spring and summer, but not in the fall and winter. My daughter gets up at 5:30 to get ready for school, and even her drive in is in the dark. We are in school 5 days a week in our district since the beginning of Oct.

I bet you could probably achieve the same thing with a smart lightbulb.
Eta - I think you would need an Echo dot to pair it with for the light to gradually get brighter.

No alarm clock really works well for us anymore. We have become big lazy butts because of Covid. Both DH and I use our Apple watches as alarms, one on each side of the bed, and the lighting up of them and our phones simultaneously seems to do the trick. Kind of.
One night last week I couldn’t sleep and was wandering around the house. I was lucky enough to see Venus just before a most beautiful sunrise. That was a first for me.

Echo Shows have a Sunrise Alarm feature that you can turn on or off if that interests you.

I have the Phillips one and used it during the kids’ school years. I think it did help some, but I’m a night owl and just hate mornings. I used both it and an alarm clock I don’t think mine had a snooze, or it may have just been harder to locate. I can’t remember and it’s in storage in the States now. I think it helped **some**. But 6am just isn’t a cheerful time for me.

I have one, I bought it last winter at a friends suggestion. It worked like a charm through the winter. It gets light here early enough that I didn’t need it during the longer days of spring and summer.
I started using it again maybe a month ago and I’m no longer waking naturally when the light becomes bright, and it is turned into its brightest setting and is right next to me in the nightstand. I end up sleeping until the birds start singing and then turn it off. No idea why it worked so well last year and not this one :/

I had one a few years ago and it didn’t work AT ALL for me. My body refuses to wake up before 7:30, regardless of the amount of light. It’s really frustrating because I have to get up at 7:00 and not freakishly early. You wouldn’t think that 30 mins would make that big of a difference, but it does.

Thanks for the feedback. I am still not sure if it is for me. Ugh. I am going to see if DH will turn the closet light on when he gets up. Maybe that will help? Part of the problem is getting up in the first place, but then the other problem is that even if I do get up, I am still not awake enough to be productive and/or workout.

I have a lamp on a smart outlet that is set to turn on at 6:30.
I’m not going to say I jump up right at 6:30, but I don’t sleep thru it either. It’s bright enough that the lights do get thru the closed eyelids eventually ( unless you out there covers over your head )

I bought one but resented it. The light comes on before you need to get up. I wanted those extra 20 min or so! But I think it could be great for some.
It seems EXTRA dark this fall. Probably not true but sometimes my 10 min snooze is the most refreshing sleep I get all night! The light messed with that...
